After listening to C.W. music for awhile on my eight track, I traded my cutlass in for a 1975 CJ5. Boy was that a fun rig! Had a winch up front big lift big tires. I'm on my 10 th jeep now. It'll probably be my last one. I'm an old man now, but can still wheel! God Bless!
My brother Bob loved this song back in the 70's.He moved on to CCR in the late 70's. Sadly he fell from a cliff while we were fishing back in 79. He died from the fall. He was 34 day's from his 16th birthday. He died doing what we all loved doing. Fishing! I turned 15, 40 day's after he died.

Cool video. I will start rebuilding my 57 CJ 5 this summer, right after I get my 1952 M38A1 running. Those old four bangers were not built for speed. CJ 5 engines were the Willys Hurricane F head 4 cyl, Buick 225 Dauntless, 192 Perkins diesel in Britain, AMC's 232,258 and 304. In the 80s it came with GMs Iron Duke. You are either a Jeep fan despite their wort's or not.
Listened to this when I was a kid, I think I even still have the vinyl LP stored away somewhere. Damn, I'm getting old! Great song though, all of Mr. Fries' work was outstanding.

The front axle is narrower than the Rear axle .... Therefore , the front tires don't " break trail " for the rears in snow or mud ...

Where the nishnabotna flows

Well, he picked me up at exit 12
On the i-six-eighty ramp

When I rumbled through his trap
He commenced to whirl his flashin' lights
And he made his siren wail
I slipped on down to four-wheel drive
With smokey on my tail

Goodness gracious
'Bout to bust my shocks
Well, that Jeep of mine made Smokey whine
His rig was made of lead
He was mired in fourteen feet of mud
So he radioed ahead
I pulled up onto the blacktop
Went crashin' on through the rail
Sakes alive, I had twenty five more Smokeys on my tail
Now I had racing stripes and dual pipes
And Smokey had a Ford
Had a mill with a four-pot carb, you know
But Smokey's stroked and bored
Well, the race was on
But I had the edge
With a rig that'll never fail
Got a CJ-5 with a four-wheel drive
Sittin' out back of the jail
Sakes alive, that CJ5 is really a CJ7,
When I die, that's all I'll drive
when I get to Heaven!
And that's a big 10-4, Rubber Duck.
For me it's the Cherokee! Jeep on Brother!
Have a Cherokee, cj7 and a 46 CJ2A.
CJ2A, CJ7, and a TJ Wrangler Rubicon here……and I live 5 hours from the Rubicon trail in California, good times.
fair nuf I was just wondering if you do this for a few different vids or just awesome McCall songs
@RM1SS Hey, appreciate the 10-9 and the 411!! See howlong I been around, both ages!! Goin' back to "copy the mail!" WJ
He must have had a big gap between the cop because he had to get out and lock the hubs in lol
who ever rides shotgun has to climb out and lay on the hood and reach over and lock in the hubs when he comes to a stop .lol be sure and hold the hood latch or you could fall off
That’s why you keep your hubs locked
My M38A1 jeep has vacuum operated hubs. No locking required
You don't leave your hubs locked in?
@Joe Casson
Thanks for showing you have no idea what you're talking about
Fun to play in the truck taking I-680 & I-29 around Omaha....esp onct you get across the river goin' east.
☺ ☺ ☺ ☺One of the must beautiful music I ever heard! ☺ ☺
CJ-5 has an S shaped door opening. CJ-7 (pictured in video) has a rectangular door opening and a longer wheelbase. Yeah, I had to be that guy. Still, good video, made me smile. Thumbs up.
You can run, but you cannot hide. That radio will get you every time
Great video, I love the song and I think it was a perfect video for it.
RIP….you Crispy Critter! 😢
"Can you dig it, Smokey?"
Haha
I was listening to classic country and they played this.
I haven't heard it in years.
we was parked up on the top of Brushy MNT.in my friends old CJ-5 smokeing a big fat number once and we had pulled up on the top of the big cliff above I77 and old us rt52 when the cops came they was down below yelling at us to get down off that cliff before we went over the side and dropped abot 200 feet down into the highway lol my friend just drove over the end of the cliff and we went across the rocks and back into the highway and left.I think it stunned the cops so bad they never even chased us lol.it looked like we just went over the cliff and I think they was waiting to hear the crash when we hit bottom .but we usta go up and over that thing all the time if we had someone who had never done it they would start screaming when alfred drove over the end of the cliff,it did look like you was just going out into the air and it was juat wide enough for that old jeep to fit up there it had to be 1000feet up above the Interstate highway and we usta sit there and get sotned and drink beer and watch the cars go by they looked like little hot wheels from up there.now the AT goes right along our old path across there I see hikers sitting up there taking pictures all the time now and when I tell them about taking a CJ-5 across there they just star at me like i am either crazy or a liar.lol needless to say if I offer to take them over it in my 4x4 colorado they don't want me to give them a ride to town lol
"Marijewana?"
LMAO IKR????
I know people who actually say it like that
It's a Colorado thing. I'm not from Colorado but just trust me.
Electric lettuce.
Giggle flower
This reminds me hanging out with your old man back in the 120 miles an hour down the road not a cop inside we had to see what that Oldsmobile would do
8 minutes to bury the 120 mph speedometer. I should be dead.
Fine job on the video. Had fun watching it.
How can the Smokey follow him if he was off roading like that
Smokey wildin
Learned from crazy cooter.
The golden eagle is a 7 but that's fine because I built a 79 cj7 and it looked pretty much the same 👍
If you like listening to this song you should try to CW McCall song called classified.
I's thumbin' through the want ads in the Shelby County Tribune when this classified advertisement caught my eye...
(hahaha now anyone that knows this song won't be able to stop until they recite it all :-)
No argument. CW MCALL THE FATHER OF RAPP MUSIC
Is there such thing as a CJ without 4WD?
Jive Turkey dj5 better known as a postal jeep was 2 wd variety of the cj5
Jive Turkey yes there is but they have no resale value.
Useless damn things ..... Uncle Sam trying to save money ..... What they saved in vehicle cost , they more than likely ate up with tow-truck costs getting Un -stuck ..... The front axle is narrower than the Rear axle .... Therefore , the front tires don't " break trail " for the rears in snow or mud ...
No. A two wheel drive Jeep was a DJ...
Gonna do a wheelie on that thare gofer mound!
I remember this song from when I was a kid like if you do too
I love this funky song

I'll put it to you this way, I have a friend that has a 1978 CJ7 and he could flip it over backward if he tried hard enough, did it twice
GREAT pics but AWESOME song!

I'd like to find an old CJ5 and shoehorn a 304 V8 in it then paint it blue with white racing stripes then put big ol fat commando tires on it

+Ben Gordon years ago a friend of my uncle's had a 74 CJ 5 with a 258 straight 6. I tried like hell to get him to sell it to me and do it up like the description in this song but I never could talk him into selling it. lately I've been concocting another idea. finding a newer Jeep Rubicon and drop-in a 5.7 Hemi in that bastard
Get a CJ8 and do it. You'll thank me later. =p
Hey that pic is a CJ 7
1:35 Keith Urban? 😆 Watch out for the fellow there with the banjo
It's a CJ-5 in the song, it's a CJ-7 in the pictures.
I 680 is in Nebraska is where he is from. And the pic is NOT a CJ-5 it’s a CJ-7. Either way great song.
Best bluegrass song of all time
I-680 goes around Omaha, I-69 is in Indiana
