The way they managed to mash so many different genres/influences together and make it sound THIS GOOD is incredible!! There's j-pop from the Squid Sisters, electronica from DJ Octavio, bollywood influences from Frye, japanese folk influences from Shiver, and to top it all off a samba beat from Big Man! It's such a groove.
I love that DJ Octavio is not only the backbone of the whole operation due to piloting the Octobot, but also the backbone of the piece due to managing the mixing and levels. Perfect conclusion to his character too, bringing forth a sick collab of the song that freed his people from his once-tyrannical control. Let me remind you all that in-universe this collaboration was IMPROV'D. ON ALL SIDES. The fact that Callie and Marie were able to play off Octavio's beats so perfectly with absolutely zero verbal or visual communication is actually _super_ impressive from a technical standpoint, let alone Shiver and Frye and Big Man, two of whom would barely even know that Octavio _existed._ Also, maybe this is a bit headcanon-y, but I like how Shiver and Frye knew the chorus by heart, but Callie and Marie sang the first verse, almost like they were teaching it to Deep Cut mid-performance. Such a nice detail.
Also, I have a feeling that the reason why the verses for Deep Cut are different is because, with songs, a Chorus is usually a lot easier to remember than Verses, since they're usually sang more than once, so Deep Cut kinda just improvised new Lyrics since they kinda barely remembered them.
It was so cool hearing the elements of the whistles from Shiver’s splatfest solo in the intro and Big Man’s chorus vocals in the backing track! Hearing Deep Cut adding their own flair to the song (Frye’s rhythm and Shiver’s high notes) and then the breakdown towards the end where the Squid Sisters come back in, just EXCELLENT IT GIVES ME CHILLS. Shoutout to Octavio for having this remix on hand lol, talk about a live performance

It’s so good! I feel like Frye’s voice is a bit deeper than Shiver’s, like sometimes when she speaks during the Splatcast she sounds pretty low Very unique compared to the other splatooon idols
Frye and Shiver’s dynamic is just so good, Frye keeps the rhythm going and Shiver does the high notes with that beautiful enka style. I’d love to see Big Man interact with the dynamic too though, because we don’t often get to hear male and female characters singing together at the same time (not in a chorus).

I remember talking with my friend about what if all three idol groups came together and had roles like a kpop band, and if you're wondering, these were the results: Frye - Main Dancer Shiver - Main Vocalist, Sub Center Pearl - Main Rapper Callie - Visual, Sub Dancer Marie - Face of the Group, Sub Vocalist Marina - Center, Sub Visual, Producer Big Man - Leader, Sub Rapper, Producer There's no maknae because we don't know Shiver, Frye, and Big Man's ages (at least that i am aware of)
it's part of DJ Octavio's Style of focussing more on the rhythm and instruments and bringing them out more while the vocals are toned down a bit. I think it works really well.
when i first heard 2:53 i thought it was little buddy joining in while fighting [SPOILER], since you can hear him sing that melody in the story mode. as much as i love big man i am a little disappointed that wasn't the case, because the thought of little buddy singing along even while in an intense battle is illegally adorable.
I think its still Big Man because that portion of the song was sung by Shiver and Frye exclusively, so odds are it was also meant for Big Man too. They were putting their own unique twist on the song. But! Maybe Lil buddy was singing with them too I’m not too sure. (Either way his lil song is precious)

Just because big man is mostly absent from the vocals doesn't mean he puts in less effort. He writes the lyrics for most of Deep Cut's songs and acts as an accent vocalist, as well as background dancer in their preformances. He's a great musician, right up there with the other six known idols of Splatoon!
The fact that this is a remix of Spicy Calimari Inkantation (The one that played during the final phase of the fight with Octavio in Splat 2) just makes this even better in my opinion.

I haven't seen any of 3's story at this point (Don't own the game and haven't watched anyone play through it), but this is probably my favorite version of Calamari Inkantation to date. It's SO good! Also, this is pretty interesting. I'm not surprised Big Man had the least usage throughout since he seems to fill a more background-vocals roles (Not that I've really listened to any of the OST beyond this one song. Lol), but I'm genuinely surprised how much more present Deep Cut overall was over Callie and Marie. It's an interesting choice, tho I assume it's cause they're the new group, so it makes sense. (That being said, for the name "3MIX," its weird to me that Pearl and Marina are nowhere to be heard here. :P)

One of my favorite little details is that, at 2:01, it plays a few "Power Egg Obtained" sound effects. And seeing as how the only way to get rid of Fuzz Balls is powering Small Fry with Power Eggs, I like to imagine that Huge Fry is absorbing Power Eggs to beat sir big bear guy thingy.

Everyone complaining that Big Man doesn't sing enough and, like, I agree, but it's not like he has no presence at all. All of the background singing and whistles heard throughout the song are ripped straight from his solo song for the first half of Splatfest! Even the part he sings during the chorus is reminicent of the second half of said solo, though not identical. Def makes up for Anarchy Rainbow not featuring nearly as many elements from his solo as it does from the other 2 Deep Cut members.
After hearing the Splatfest solos, I can now hear the Big Man parts before that I thought weren't his. (Example would be at 1:21 where Callie does her lines, Big Man has his back-up vocals that he does for his solo song.) All those cheering parts where I got that Pokemon Sword/Shield vibes in the song were his parts. So while he technically isn't singing, it's his back-up vocals that pair well in those parts.
This is already fire but have Pearl and Marina been there singing alongside with the Squid sisters and Deep Cut this track would’ve gone from Fire to a scorching inferno

Not really here to complain, but wanted to ask: Shouldn't the background vocals from 1:21 to 1:32 technically be Big Man? That same tune plays pretty heavily in his solo piece if I recall...so I'd assume this is representing him?
Something that I've noticed is that some parts of the song don't match the given lyrics, like some words have different sounds. Interestingly, this only seems to be during Deep Cut's part - Callie and Marie sing the normal lyrics. Similarly, the Calamari Inkantation part of Wave Goodbye also follows the normal lyrics (albeit a bit less in the second refrain). But this implies that Deep Cut's lyrics are probably their own, something they wrote just for this song. That combined with their diverse cultural influences makes their part super cool!
This song gives me goosebumps. Not nessicarly because it’s good but what I associate it with. It always brings back the memories of fighting the final boss to the very end with all your might while the squid sisters are cheering you on
This video reveals two things to me. 1: Frye's personality on the news broadcast isn't a façade, she literally cannot contain her energy when she gets excited. (Shiver yells too but not to the same extreme as Frye's shout) 2: If Octavio is the one doing the mixing of the beats and lines, me thinks he's a bit of a Frye fan. I'm not sure what his beef with Big man is though lol

it's part of DJ Octavio's Style of focussing more on the rhythm and instruments and bringing them out more while the vocals are toned down a bit. I think it works really well.
when i first heard 2:53 i thought it was little buddy joining in while fighting [SPOILER], since you can hear him sing that melody in the story mode. as much as i love big man i am a little disappointed that wasn't the case, because the thought of little buddy singing along even while in an intense battle is illegally adorable.

I think its still Big Man because that portion of the song was sung by Shiver and Frye exclusively, so odds are it was also meant for Big Man too. They were putting their own unique twist on the song. But! Maybe Lil buddy was singing with them too I’m not too sure. (Either way his lil song is precious)

Right up until now I thought it was a bit goofy that they like. Saw the Squid Sisters singing _the_ Squid Sisters song and didn’t make the connection until later, but now it’s _way funnier_ knowing that they must be like.

Just because big man is mostly absent from the vocals doesn't mean he puts in less effort. He writes the lyrics for most of Deep Cut's songs and acts as an accent vocalist, as well as background dancer in their preformances. He's a great musician, right up there with the other six known idols of Splatoon!
The fact that this is a remix of Spicy Calimari Inkantation (The one that played during the final phase of the fight with Octavio in Splat 2) just makes this even better in my opinion.
I am telling you that we're getting this song at the concert in october ! The Squid Sisters will shows up and perform this, maybe with Deep Cut idk, but the result will be incredible. As a huge fan I cried when this play at the final boss
Don’t get me wrong, I love Deep Cut, but I wish that Callie and Marie sang more in this song!! They were the ones to popularize the Calamari Inkantation, after all.
I agree, but they probably wanted to give a spotlight to the main idols of this game. It’s their game and not Callie and Marie’s so I see why they did that.
When shiver and Frye sing, it sometimes sounds like their saying “you need to hear *their* song” while for Callie and marie, it’s “you need to hear *our* song”

I haven't seen any of 3's story at this point (Don't own the game and haven't watched anyone play through it), but this is probably my favorite version of Calamari Inkantation to date. It's SO good!
Also, this is pretty interesting. I'm not surprised Big Man had the least usage throughout since he seems to fill a more background-vocals roles (Not that I've really listened to any of the OST beyond this one song. Lol), but I'm genuinely surprised how much more present Deep Cut overall was over Callie and Marie. It's an interesting choice, tho I assume it's cause they're the new group, so it makes sense.
(That being said, for the name "3MIX," its weird to me that Pearl and Marina are nowhere to be heard here. :P)

I'm surprised that a song could even have 5 people singing at once without it sounding bad, so 7 people singing would probably just add a minute of singing.
Everyone complaining that Big Man doesn't sing enough and, like, I agree, but it's not like he has no presence at all. All of the background singing and whistles heard throughout the song are ripped straight from his solo song for the first half of Splatfest! Even the part he sings during the chorus is reminicent of the second half of said solo, though not identical. Def makes up for Anarchy Rainbow not featuring nearly as many elements from his solo as it does from the other 2 Deep Cut members.

It has now been a year today, since the Calamari Inkantation 3MIX Line Distribution has been uploaded on the channel!
After hearing the Splatfest solos, I can now hear the Big Man parts before that I thought weren't his. (Example would be at 1:21 where Callie does her lines, Big Man has his back-up vocals that he does for his solo song.) All those cheering parts where I got that Pokemon Sword/Shield vibes in the song were his parts. So while he technically isn't singing, it's his back-up vocals that pair well in those parts.

Something that I've noticed is that some parts of the song don't match the given lyrics, like some words have different sounds. Interestingly, this only seems to be during Deep Cut's part - Callie and Marie sing the normal lyrics. Similarly, the Calamari Inkantation part of Wave Goodbye also follows the normal lyrics (albeit a bit less in the second refrain). But this implies that Deep Cut's lyrics are probably their own, something they wrote just for this song. That combined with their diverse cultural influences makes their part super cool!

This song gives me goosebumps. Not nessicarly because it’s good but what I associate it with. It always brings back the memories of fighting the final boss to the very end with all your might while the squid sisters are cheering you on

1: Frye's personality on the news broadcast isn't a façade, she literally cannot contain her energy when she gets excited. (Shiver yells too but not to the same extreme as Frye's shout)
2: If Octavio is the one doing the mixing of the beats and lines, me thinks he's a bit of a Frye fan. I'm not sure what his beef with Big man is though lol
