  • Huan is the Hound of the Valar. Today we chronicle his journey through Middle Earth and the battles he had throughout the ages against the forces of Morgoth.

So many people think that Sauron is this invincible dark warrior. But Huan defeated him even when Sauron was still capable of changing his shape (an ability he lost with the fall of Numenor). Luthien further humiliated him by forcing him to surrender Tol-in-Gaurhoth to her, which she then tore down with her magic, thus costing Morgoth a strategic fortress that he would have to apply resources to get back. When people wonder why former servants of Morgoth like Durin's Bane and Smaug didn't offer themselves as servants to Sauron, this is the answer.

This is great context, I didn’t realize the fact he couldn’t change form was connected to Numenor, thanks for your comment

@@MiddleEarthExpress - Thanks! Apparently, having God smack down the entire island that Sauron was standing on broke him in some fundamental way. While his spirit managed to escape the cataclysm, and even carry the One Ring back to Middle-earth with him, he was never again able to freely change his form. Hence the armored "Dark Lord" look and the way that he gave up trying to seduce people into doing what he wanted. Because he could no longer take on fair form so as to look trustworthy.

Huan won with the help of Luthien Magic alone he Huan would have lost, Sauron was a very very powerful Maia close in power to the Valar it was his overconfidence that was Saurons weakness.

@@Marcelocostache - If he were close to a Valar than Huan and Luthien would not have beaten him so decisively. And, mind you, that's Sauron back in the First Age. Let us not forget that he surrendered to Eonwe at the end of the War of Wrath and it was only Eonwe's laziness that let Sauron go free.
Sauron lost much power during the Second Age, during the Fall of Numenor and the War of the Last Alliance. Which, again, Sauron was wearing the One Ring during his fight with Elendil and Gil-galad. Nonetheless, he not only lost that battle in the end when Isildur cut off his finger and took the One Ring, but it would take him millennia to recover enough simply to command (but not lead) his armies.
Sauron only *seems* powerful in the Third Age because the heroes are less mythic in their powers. But also Sauron no longer has many of his Maia powers. Most notably, he can no longer change shape. As I said, he was so worried about his own safety that he wouldn't even leave Barad-dur to personally lead his attacks on Gondor.

@@daniels7907 Sauron at his peak was most likely the most powerful Maiar again he was Vala like, so was Eonwe Melian Osse, Arien, the ring just amplified his powers and was used as an anchor ⚓️ point to middle earth, the ring was a gamble/ sacrifice, as in he concentrated his vast divine/god like powers into an object as long as this object existed it was impossible for him to be vanquished but without the ring on him his powers where severally diminished and if the ring gets destroyed it will be impossible for him to manifest at all asking for forgiveness from Eonwe is one of his manipulations, the same with the numenorians His capture and imprisonment on Numenor was a ruse/trap set by Sauron masterfully, this Maia managed to desperse the protective waters of Tol Sirion from Ulmo and while on Numenor he took a direct lightning bold from Manwe if that is not power I have no idea what it is you see right that he was diminished by the 3th age as he wasted much of his powers on just making a new body for himself twice.

I love the fact that Huan saved his final chance at speaking for a good-bye to Beren and Luthien. He could have used his third chance to speak earlier on, advice to Beren and Luthien or delivering a portentous warning to their enemies. But instead, he saved his final chance at speech for a few simple, intimate words to the people he loved most. We don't even know what he said, and that's as it should be.

Huan Vs. G'mork (the evil pupper in never ending story)... I don't know who i'd choose. I'd be too confused by the feeling Atreyu is giving me to focus on the dogs. I'd have to go with Huan simply because Tolkien has the superior... everything. But the nothingness pupper is spooky af.

I'm sorry to criticize because this is a wonderful video and I love your content in general. However, I have one complaint, and it's far too serious for me to leave it out.
It's the title. The title is all wrong. You named it (paraphrasing here) "Huon, the Greatest Dog on Middle Earth", but that isn't propper homage to the great beast. It should be titled as follows:
    "Huon, the Goodest Boy Ever"
