  • Andrew McKenna is joined by the former England bowlers Steve Harmison and Alex Tudor to look back at England's 4-1 series defeat in India after they lost the 5th and final Test by an innings and 64 runs.
    They discuss yet another batting collapse from England, where they go from here, and debate whether they need to evolve their new way of thinking. They also hear exclusively from the England captain Ben Stokes and the thoughts of India captain Rohit Sharma and the India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

    Only time India was under pressure was in Ranchi test where Root batted traditionally and got England to 350 and India had a collapse in their first innings. Victory in the first test was miraculous

Indian team even missing half of their regulars in Test team doesn’t deserve any positives from this series, as Steve was saying even after losing 4-1 England have so many postive performances (that hyd test was a fluke win for England, Indian players atleast 6-7 off them got out to rang long hops)

    England had too many passengers; Bairstow & Anderson selfishly chased personal milestones; reality is they are past it and should retire. For all the romantic nonsense about Foakes keeping, his batting is simply not good enough. Pope, Crawley & Duckett had their moments but lack consistency and a ruthlessness. Wood is a one trick pony whilst Ollie Robinson is a pathetic excuse of an international cricketer

    • @swazzz1
      @swazzz1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      You forget Stokes. His number of runs this series is the lowest amongst the specialist batters in England. Pope does not have the consistency or temperament to make it long in the Test format. Crawley will grind it out, he has the chops for it. Anderson will retire this year and Bairstow should be moved on.

    The difference between great teams and mediocre teams lies in the ability to do the basics right, even in challenging situations. Mediocre teams unravel at the slightest hint of a challenge. That is what England has been largely, and no amount of verbosity by the experts can convince the larger public otherwise.

    This series is a testament to the fact that you cannot bat a specific way/style. You have to adapt according to situation. Reality is none of the English batsman except root do not trust their defensive shots and tend to play release shots early. This English side was definitely more competitive than the 2016 and 2021 but you can't help but think they should have won atleast another test match.

    What positive can you take from a 4-1 drubbing? If England continue to live in denial, and do not re-strategise, I think they will end up as a footnote in Test history. Their current position on the WTC table is a fair reflection of their game. Stokes and Macullum and the British media may keep parroting about the positive approach and the positives from the series, I don't think the discerning British cricket fan is buying it. If you listen to the British media you would think that India won by the skin of their teeth, and it was England which emerged with the honours in moral victory terms.

    Foakes’ stock as keeper/batter will take a big hit after this. Some will no doubt say that he should have been offered more support from our specialist batters. But that alternative, especially under McCullum and Stokes, tends to obviate the need for lower order runs. Stokes & McCullum need to assume responsibility and own this. We need an apology. The scratch bowling unit need an apology. Zac Crawley aside, the batting has been a massive flop. Well done India.

    But that’s how the team knows how to play. In this Stokes - McCullum era the only way they have played was always being aggressive. This means they don’t play defence at all, oh wait a min they don’t know how to play defence atleast the top order. If they play that they get out. These players were poor at defence before this era as well. It’s just that this partnership made them the players they are now. How can you expect them to change? The thing was it took some time for teams to understand how to tackle it and once they did the batting didn’t become that difficult to tackle for the bowlers.

Just change your approach a little bit, and England could have won this series and upset Indians!!! Wow... extreme hubris from the English experts. In my opinion, winning the one match was the unanticipated side effect and in reality, the visitors were doomed to fail. This certainly should be a wake up call.

    It is good to encourage the rookie spinners of England by praising them. But one should also be realistic. Such spinners will always take wickets on rank turners, but whenever the wickets have been sporting, they get found out. Good spinners can trouble even in good sporting wickets. My point is limited - by all means encourage your spinners, but do not let them go away with the feeling that they are world beaters, or even world class. By overdoing the praise bit, they may feel that they have arrived, and not work to improve their skills.

Dude a guy on debut didn't perform two tests and he is out ..thats the standard we set in india.. and you have a captain who couldn't hold his bat against spin and u guys hail him as the best ever and go insanely praising him for getting a wkt.. imagine an Indian player playing 10 innings as a batsman and averaging 20 .. and that's your skipper.. shame on the English cricket fraternity to not even raise .. in india a skipper with this sort of series who couldn't inspire any confidence and he just gets bowled man for fun ..would have resigned by now or would have been 5 hours he had been sacked from the team .. no wonder u guys are at the bottom of WTC table .. keep hailing a team who couldn't win a home series against aus , couldn't win in NZ , couldn't even put up a fight in india in the WC . Keep winning against pak on highways .. have your standards so abnormally low and no wonder england could win a wc on boundary County In all these years .. hang on moral victory for bazball for the skipper taking one wicket..

Anderson is a legend but why give him a chance to get 700 on indian soil and bashir to get a five fer? We need to kill ambitions, make them psychologically more desperate rather than give then celebration points and take away the focus away from India's excellent achievement. No jealousy here. In this series 4 indian batsmen scored 7 100s in between them including 2 doubles of YJ, The Indian middle order have 4 80 + scores yet the English media glorifies how good the 3 English centrues were and how good Zak Crawley batted. How well Joe Root bowled, and wowing Jimmy's 700... the English really need to come back to Earth. India literally fucked up some royal asses.😂 try getting real for once.
