His points around 13 minutes are so true. I have often wondered about the "new age" philosophy that behaves as though the collective consciousness on planet earth is all positive energy and higher vibrational thought. It is a good way to delude ourselves. Bruckner's latest is about happiness; most who think themselves enlightened might be surprised to find out that they are just selfish.

What a fantastic author articulating some much needed self-examination for the Left especially in this age of the Woke.

Bruckner is right - he is describing ourselves.

No, but some cultures and religions sure took advantage of it.

This Cohen, Hitchens type crowd set up a straw man opposition, its not just cultural relativism that opposes actively pursuing the implementation of contentiously defined universals around the globe. I'd like some universals everywhere but sometimes there is just not the resources and social capital to realise these ideas in certain areas, you have to prioritise which you'll protect. You must always start with security. Sometimes respecting existing cultural practice short term is pragmatic!

An excellent countercurrent point to wake up Europe from its perilous slumber, if it has not yet become Eurabia.

I really don't understand Nick Cohen. He's an intelligent man, and I love his writing, but he seems incapable of formulating and expressing clear, intelligent points in real time. Nick: think of a single, clear point/question you want to make, don't get side-tracked into sub clauses, make the point/question clearly.
