- Finally learnt some NEW Greenland Rolls with the Rebel Greenland T.
Up till now, I've only been able to do the Standard Greenland Roll and I could not progress so much even with lots of practice. It was a little disheartening that I only had the one roll. Now I have received the Rebel Greenland T, I felt more confident to try different Greenland Rolls!

It's hard to being a small creator on TH-cam so I've been using tools from TubeBuddy and vidIQ to help me grow this channel. You might find them useful too! Below are affiliate links:

great share👍👍👍
Thanks!
Congrats on your perseverance
Appreciate it!
I like your energy! Always refreshing to see progress with a smile.
One tip to get you going easier with the forward finishing, reverse sweep roll: think body, not paddle. You have a good setup but your body finishes in the middle of the cockpit and to do that you have to push hard on the paddle. Instead you should almost touch your head in front of the cockpit when coming up! That way you take the strain off your shoulder and you can keep rolling for many years to come ;)
As a bonus along the journey you may find the throwing stick and hand rolls to be easier to master because you learned rolls are more body than blade.
Good luck whatever you do!
Thanks for the tips! I reviewed my videos afterwards and showed it to a friend and they also mentioned exactly the same thing as you did. Definitely have lots to work on and need more practice. I really need to think Body rather than Arms!
@@Fishaholicboy Oh with that attitude and a couple of friends, you will master many rolls in no time. Keep up the good work and all the best! Also keep us posted!
@@TiborBerki I'll keep documenting it on TH-cam! I would love to be able to roll like you! You should post more videos as I follow your channel :)
@@Fishaholicboy Ah, thanks! When kayaking I focus mostly on the experience and not filming. It's mainly my Greenland kayak and roll journey I've filmed.
Good one! Especially your Butterfly rolls. You did the right thing by stretching your arms out instead of just pulling the paddle downwards.
Yes.. that’s one thing I was very conscious about!
well, you're starting to look like all the other experts I use to watch to try to learn how. you're my hero, great accomplishment.
Hehe thanks Bill! I think I’ll stick with these few rolls and learn to do it on the other side before moving on to others :)
Congrats, love how you document your progress and share with everyone with a positive attitude. A bit more tugging and holding your pivot hand steady will encourage torsal rotation over relying/pulling on the paddle.
Thanks for the tip! I just saw your channel and I will be watching them tonight!
We all need this humble courage to commit to practice. This is how experts reach their level, by keep trying, you give a great example!!
It took so many sessions before I could any rolls… but when I got the first one, kept me going!
@@Fishaholicboy I’m going for it. You inspired me!
Great video. I've no confidence for this kind of thing wish I had.
Beautiful place too.
Thanks! I started by using a float until I got comfortable, it could be an option for you? But if you have access to classes, it’ll be even better!
Great work, Fantastic progress. I bet the fit of the Rebel boat feels so much better than your pakayak.
So funny when you stopped due to the rain!
Thanks! I also laughed at myself for getting out of the water once it started to rain… it didn’t make sense haha
Wow!! I'm impressed Chad 👍👍. What a progression with your new and "real" kayak. Keep practising and you are going to be better than me at the end of the year.
Next step is to do the rolls on both sides. Also practise balance brace and sculling, that will help you a lot.
Congratulations! 👏
Thanks Jonas! Like you suggested, I think I’ll stick with these three rolls and learn to roll from the other side first before moving on to more :)
Great to see👌
Thank you! Cheers!
I really like that boat! This really shows how the right gear can foster progress. Great work!
The kayak definitely helped! Having tried a few different kayaks to roll, this one is by far the easiest to roll
Lower deck, narrower beam make a huge difference in roll progression. The other key is good outfitting in the kayak. My primary rolling kayak has a 20" beam and roughly 8" deck height. I still had to add a thick foam masik to give me the fit I needed to get the leg drive and rotational control. I have an Ilage coming and expect to add a bit more thickness to the masik as well.
For comaprison, I am 5'9" and about 160 lbs.
Keep up the good practice
Ooo.. good point. I may need to try a masik to get better connection with the kayak. I have an thick EVA foam pad which I think I can cut into shape. I haven't tried the Ilaga but I hear it's harder to roll than the Rebel. Have you tried both?
Brilliant, love the rolls and the big grin. I find forward finishing rolls so hard, i just repeat "look down" over and over to stop lifting ny shoulder
I’ll have to keep practicing it.. I noticed I’m not bending to do a crunch. I need to practice more so that my body remembers to do it. Thanks for watching as always!
beautiful rolls!
Thank you! Many more rolls to learn :)
I'm encouraged and inspired by your progress! Good work!
Thank you!
Awesome job buddy, you hit it out of the park, some bloody good rolls and great to see you're trying out different techniques. You should have a go at the no paddle roll (can't remember the correct name) But let go of the paddle and just use your hips and legs. Something I learned 20 years ago and before you ask NO I can't do it anymore (to many injuries + old man now lol) Great video and a lovely looking kayak.
Thank you! I can’t imagine rolling without a paddle.. something I will aim for down the track!
@@Fishaholicboy to be honest it's not too hard it's just timing and momentum. As soon as you start to roll use your hips and thighs and push yourself to keep going. Now I don't know if it's possible in a sea kayak as I learned to do it in a smaller boat about 8 feet if memory serves. But I don't see why not contacting a sea kayak is not as wide.
If you do try it can't wait to see the video 👍
@@THE-RIVER-RAT now I have to try it! 😂 next time on the water, I’ll gift it a go!
Very nice 👍
Thank you 👍
Hey I Know This Place In Hong Kong It's a Children's Camp I Fish 🎣 Here before and Good Job 👍👍👍👍😊 Rolling!
Haha yeah it’s a great safe place to practice rolling. One of my favourite places
I Went Kayaking In My School Trip Camp And It didn't Roll!
Congrats. Rolling is still on my to do bucket list. I have taken two clinics to try and learn it…came close but still not there.
Thanks! When you do your first roll, you’ll have the AHA moment! Keep trying!
great, but yes, tuck all the way, head coming up by the skirt.
That’s what I need to keep in mind next time I try :)
Have you watched any Paulo Oullet videos? I think you may find them to be helpful.
Yes I follow him and love his videos! I think I’ve seen them all haha
