Another great review as a 70's kid I had both the REMCO Energized SPIDEY and 8" MEGO which actually was my first blister carded MEGO before several of the DC Super Friends joined the party. In 76' we all had copies of The Amazing Spider-Man on the night stand a SPIDEY Halloween costume in the closet and a pair of Spider-Man UNDEROOS on at bedtime! Such a great time to be a kid.

I had that Marvel World playset. It's odd how instant recognition of something you haven't thought about in decades makes memories flood back.

I also wanted to say that Mego not only made great Spiderman action figures but they really shined with their entire Superhero line composed of both Marvel and DC characters. Not only did Mego make great superhero action figures but their Micronauts line of toys were fantastic as well. What ever happened to Mego? They were clearly one of the best and greatest toy manufacturers and if they were still around today I’m sure they would be making some incredible toys.

Spider-Man is the Marvel Superhero most True Believers can identify in as Spidey had problems with money/girls/ school. He is so relatable. The 1960s Spider-Man & 1980s Spider-Man cartoons were the best IMHO.

Another excellent overview of vintage toys. Well done. Of course by now if you recognize my name you probably know my story and instantly know my top figure will always be the 8 inch Mego Spider-man. I am happy to say I STILL have my original figure in his original box. That's how much revered him. I also have the 12 inch Mego Spidey and of course that Remco Spider-man. I always thought his head looked like it belonged on a fully articulated figure. I also agree with your assessment that the Mangler was probably one of the goofiest ideas ever. I got the impression they came up with that idea from the infamous Green Hornet episode of the Batman '66 series, where the Hornet and Kato are thrown into a machine and spat out as life-sized stamps.

    "The Amazing Spider-Man Web-Shooter" from 1975. This
is a true Spidey grail piece for me, and remains one of
my personal all-time favorites in my Spider-Man collection.

That Marvel World Adventure Playset was literally one of my favorite toys as a kid. It was so cool to have all of those characters in one package, even if it they were nothing more than cheap cardboard cut-outs.

Thanks again for another super superhero video. I have most of the Spider-man items in your video. My first ever Spider-man toy was the 8" Mego figure with the type 1 body. I've had it since 1973 or 1974. And I recently bought the Palitoy fist-fighting version. I have both of the Remco Spider-man figures (one with the original box). I love the Ideal Spider-man game. And it's interesting that there is no paper or cardboard anywhere on the game except of course, for its box. Even the game board is made of a sturdy plastic. I also have the Incredible Hulk game, and they both have great artwork on the boxes. They display very nicely with my collection. The camera on the Peter Parker figure in your video is from the I Dream of Jeannie doll line. I have a Ken that came with that same camera.
I also have that unusual Supervator play set made by Mego (It's not quite as odd ad the Mangler!) It has great artwork of Spider-man and the Green Goblin on the box.
I recently bought the Popy Spider-man (without the accessories). This Spider-man is usually astronomically priced on Ebay, but I was fortunate to find one for a good price. The Popy Spider-man has such an undeniable charm, even my 11-year-old nephew enjoys playing with it.

I like these top 10 lists of vintage DC & Marvel Super Hero toys. With the SpiderMan list, I love numbers 3, 4, 6,8 & 10. I've been on a Mego kick since I heard that Mego plans to release 50th anniversary editions of the original Mego WGSH, so there's no surprise that most of what I love on your top 10 list are all the Mego entries. In addition, although they're not that great, I still love both the Mego Comic Action and Pocket Super Heroes of SpiderMan figures. They make me think of the vintage classic 1967 SpiderMan cartoon series. I also love the rubber SpiderMan figure by Ben Cooper. And I also love the AHI SpiderMan parachutist figurine. I never had the Remco Energized SpiderMan figurine, but I love the commercial. And the Mattel Secret Wars SpiderMan figure reminds me of both SpiderMan and His Amazing Friends series as well as the solo SpiderMan series, both from 1981. I wish Mego could have considered making an 8 inch SpiderMan with a removable mask. I think that would have been a great seller. Both the regular and the Web Spinning SpiderMan figures come to mind when I watch the big screen SpiderMan movies and hearing the Danny Elfman scored theme title. Great video list. :)

A few more I'd have added would've been
    1) the Pocket Superheroes Spider-Man by Mego.
    2) Bendy Spider-Man I vaguely remember but never had.
    3) Die Cast metal 6"(?) Spider-Man figure. Great articulation for late 70's- early 80's.
Spider-Man Corgi helicopter and bike (bike had a wee Spidey figure too).
    4) Spidey stunt bike, a 'pull back and release' feature motorbike again with Spider-Man figure that I had a shed load of fun with back in the early 80's.
Great vid, that Japanese Spidey looks amazing!

I had the Energized Spider-Man from Remco, and the Energized Spider-Man Copter (which of course needed Spider-Man in order to function and was ridiculously awesome to my mind at the time. I still think it looks cool to be honest). Lack of articulation aside I remember absolutely loving them. I wish I still had them as the copter is ridiculously expensive now :(

    • @AnalogToys

Barbie originally set the industry standard for 12 inch figures/dolls back in 1959. This is why the first G.I. Joes adopted the same scale. From there, Mego and Six Million Dollar Man figures were mostly 12 inch in size, it was the predominant action figure size of the 1970s, that is until Star Wars came along and revolutionised absolutely everything!

    • @autoneurotic
      @autoneurotic 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Ah, thanks! I knew Star Wars set a new standard, but I couldn't figure out who set the initial 12" standard. I never consider Barbie as a major player but it makes perfect sense now.

Of the toys on this list, the Energized Spider-Man was one I really wished I had. The Marvel World Playset was great! Only buildings representing Stark International & SHIELD are missing.
The Popy Spider-Man looks great! I think its a nod to the Japanese Spider-Man show.

Spider-Man toys in the 1970s! What can be better? There where so many companies that produced Spidey toys in the 70's, Remco, MEGO and Cemtoy! I divide my Spider-Man timeline into two eras, before McFarland and after. I stick mainly to pre McFarland and these toys really capture the essential Spidey of my youth. Best to you! P.S. even the Comic Action Heroes Mangler holds more interest to me than most of the ToyBiz Spider-Man stuff.

As far as superheros go, Spider-Man is second only to Batman, in terms of different monthly comics based on a single character. Although, if you count Batman's allies and rogues gallery (compared to Spider-Man's) there isn't much of a contest.

Really disappointed that either the Energizer Spider-Man or the Spider-Man camera (which are good choices in their own right, I'm not arguing that) made this list but the Mego Pocket Heroes Spider-Man or Mego Comic Action Heroes didn't.... and I WAITED for the #1 spot just for one of them too...
Also, I'd have put in the 1976 Corgi Junior Spidercopter just for the sheer fun of it. But if you are going to put in only toys that are true to the character I can understand the Spidercopter not getting in.... but the Mego Pocket Heroes Spider-Man or Mego Comic Action Heroes... with their unfortunately placed right fist... that's got frustrated teenage Peter Parker all over it !
