It's mind-blowing. I believe had things turned out differently for Kim - less backlash, more recognition - this woman would be celebrated more as a *LEGEND than an underrated icon. Yeah she's getting her flowers, yes she got a BET Icon Award, yes she's presenting at different ceremonies but I feel like it's a bit of the end of the short-handed stick regarding her accolades. Homegirl should've swept the Grammy table in the hip-hop scene for her lyrical play and graced more well-known global magazines during & after her prime like "People", "Time" & "Vogue". Although pop culture was saturated with so many black honeys during the 90s, TLC brought up a good point during a 1999 interview when they disclosed they had to work 3x harder than their white counterparts to "at least" scrape attention to grace covers/sweep a decent accolade for all their work, and that was coming from a group that sold a Diamond-selling record not too long before this single by Kim dropped. It's mind-blowing. I believe had things turned out differently for Kim - less backlash, more recognition - this woman would be celebrated more as a *LEGEND than an underrated icon.
