  • A PoNS clinical trial review from someone who knows! Arda had the opportunity to participate in the PoNS clinical trial in Canada. PoNS = Portable Neuromodulation Stimulator. She shares what the trial was like, what benefits she’s observed (and continued to see) & also a downside to the PoNS.

Thank you so much for doings this video! I was just saying today to my husband that I feel a little bit alone on an island, because I am not in communication with anyone else who is doing pons. I am in the US and am in my first week using pons. I was able to get into a program from Helius Medical called PTAP. It was still very expensive, but it was about $10,000 less than what they quoted me without the program. Also... Yes, I am already exhausted, as it is *a lot* of time and takes a ton of physical, mental, and emotional energy. But, I am all in and giving it a complete go... whatever it takes!

Wow, that's excellent that you were able to get into a program that helped with the cost! All I can say is try to remain positive, and take the rest when needed🧡 You can do this☺️

being MS patient in foreign countries is so easy and supportive instead of Asian countries where I live 🙄 but hearing about new things is impressive 🙂

Thank you for saying that it’s hard to work on getting stronger if that won’t improve my walking.

ARK Therapeutic Products has an item called z-vibe. I found their website after listening to a video where Montel Williams talked about his experience with the Pons device.

(UK) accessibility is such an issue! I am completely outraged by how much barriers I face with healthcare and cost of things that will help! it’s very very strange that things that can help are so unaffordable

I can't even imagine how frustrating that would be🧡 Hopefully treatments will become more accessible for all!

Dr. Gretchen, can you explain how stimulating the 12th cranial nerve of the tongue would translate to improvement in walking? Where's the connection? Wouldn't it be plausible to say that the intense PT while using this device would be what improves the neural pathways?

I recently interviewed 2 membes of the PoNS team for my podcast! As I am not an expert in the research and studies behind the device, I would recommend checking out the podcast episode to hear from them☺️ You can check it out here: open.spotify.com/episode/6Vb47N1sVSwCy0V0TzH20i?si=ybgXdERhQ2q9WugRJV9LFA

Ontario Health care paid for my ocrevus® which didn't help only hindered my MS. 65 k a year (although I discontinued for HSCT in Mexico which was paid for by many folks who kindly helped via gofundme.
Ontario will pay big Pharma but not for PONS! The company could hopefully do clinical trials in search of big govt money.

Do you know how long the effects last? I’m considering purchasing but saw that the device only lasts 3y.

Great question! I am actually releasing a new podcast episode next week (12-20-23) where I am interviewing people from the PoNS company! I think that would be the best way to have your question answered as efficiently has possible. You can find The MSing Link podcast on all streaming platforms!

So many questions , (UK resident)
Are improvements made due to intense physio ? You seem to need to be "halfway there" before you even start !
Closing your eyes and standing for 2 hours is enough to eliminate most progressive "ms"ers .Self motivation seems to be the driver for improvement Great info and well put , Thanks .

Those questions would most depend on each individual. Self motivation or at least a discipline are definitely helpful in matters such as this. I'm glad you enjoyed the video😃

"The PoNS system was cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in March as a short-term treatment for adults, ages 22 and older, with mild-to-moderate symptoms when used in conjunction with supervised therapeutic exercise programs." per an article from MS News Today.
