You're right Wanda is a complicated character and this movie showed why. Her development has been so satisfying to watch because it's been happening slowly and in the background over many films. Now she realizes that her powers are truly limitless comes when she's most vulnerable and exposed to the corruption of the Darkhold. It's tragic because she seems destined to lose her entire family in the saddest ways possible and you just want a moment of happiness for her. But she gives into despair and the Darkhold and it produces her lowest moments ever. She's still badass as hell, but yeah, I'm hoping someday there's a MCU future where she heroically redeems herself! Fun film regardless, and great reaction!

honestly if that happens I hope it's a different Wanda. I kind of hate it in comic books how there are some characters who go back and forth between villain and hero... and while they are a villain they might, as Wanda did in this movie, ruthlessly murder dozens (or sometimes hundreds or thousands or millions) of people, and then later they're like "yeah, my bad, I'm sorry" and everyone is "oh, okay, cool, yeah you can be on the Avengers now if you want".... that's insane. If this Wanda ever comes back, she needs to be in prison for the rest of her life.

Just a couple of fun facts: the MCU is a different property from the other films (fantastic 4, spider-man, etc.) The first appearance of a non-MCU character in the MCU was Spider-man (on loan from Sony, who own his movie rights). In the last few years, Disney bought Fox, regaining the rights to almost all of the Marvel movies. This is the first time that a confirmed X-men character has appeared, as well as the first Inhuman (Black Bolt - though he did appear in an awful Marvel tv show played by the same actor), and first member of the Fantastic 4 (Reed Richards)....so for comic and movie nerds, this was a very big deal, as much as when Spider-man first appeared in Civil War.
This movie is directed by Sam Raimi, who also did the Tobey Maguire Spider-man films. He also did the Evil Dead movies, starring Bruce Campbell, who appeared as a different cameo in every Spider-man film (like Stan Lee cameos), and is in this film too. He's the pizza ball vendor who punches himself in the face.

Sam Raimi came to the MCU and showed a whole new generation of how much you could get away with when there's a PG-13 rating. I loved all the references to his movies, as well as so many others in the horror genre. Seeing Patrick Stewart's Professor X - complete with the yellow chair - was wonderful. And of course Bruce Campbell is always a delight, even it was just a cameo. I'm not a fan how the movie was written, but it served its purpose a stepping stone for the next phase of the MCU.

PG-13 used to include 1 "fuck," at least a few "shits," much more gruesome and explicit violence than we saw here, darker horror elements, and, god willing, approximately one pair of exposed titties and maybe two bare behinds. So... not really...
PG-13 is very tame compared to what it used to be. Actually before they created the PG-13 label you could find all of the above in movies rated "PG"... but now you rarely see them even in PG-13 which seems to have come to mean "kids movies pretending to be for grown-ups because they have some cartoonish violence in them and maybe a little sexual innuendo."

The reason it's so funny that the post credit scene showed Bruce Campbell with a hand he couldn't control stopped is, that was part of the plot in 3 Evil Dead movies. He ended up cutting off his hand because it turned evil. Him saying, "It stopped!!" with a look of absolute joy is funny because he's been known for that since the 80's.

When Charles entered Wanda's mind, I half-expected a cameo by Sir Ian McKellen, since Magneto is Wanda and Pietro's father in the comics. But because Fox held the movie rights to X-Men characters, they couldn't use that relation in the MCU... until Disney bought the relevant divisions of Fox.

    • @carlgibson285
      @carlgibson285 ปีที่แล้ว +1

They did retcon Wanda and Pietro's father being Magneto in the comics around the same time the characters were introduced in the MCU (their new origin is that they're not mutants, they were created by the High Evolutionary and Magneto was mistaken about them being his kids), so maybe that's why they ignored it in this movie. Tbh I haven't read a Marvel comic for a couple of years though, so they well have retconned the retcon by now.

Sam Raimi (the director) and Bruce Campbell (pizza vendor who punches himself) are old friends and started off making films together with Raimi directing and Campbell starring. Campbell is one of two things that appear in most Raimi films (the other being an old car that used to belong to Raimi's dad). Campbell's character punching himself endlessly is probably a reference to the early Raimi films where Campbell's characters are usually physically abused in various ways (including fighting/punching himself in Evil Dead II). Campbell is probably best known in the mainstream for being a supporting actor in the long running USA network show Burn Notice.

fun trivia: for the one-eyed tentacle monster that our strange fought in New York, they used Elizabeth Olsen's actual eye for the model..
yes, in marvel comics, there's a group called Illuminati created by Iron Man..he recruited the leaders of each superhero group as members: Prof X (xmen), Reed Richards (Fantastic 4), Black Bolt (inhumans), Iron Man (avengers), Dr Strange (Sorcerer Supreme), and Namor (king of atlantis)..and sometimes Black Panther (king of wakanda)..they are created to convene, plan and protect Earth in secrecy, and also share possible info about threats..
the woman in the post credits is Clea, niece of Dormammu (interdimensional entity Strange fought in the last movie)..
great reaction..next is the Ms. Marvel series..hope you like it..
ALSO, not sure if you have watch, but can u react to a video from Marvel called Marvel Celebrates The Movies..its a post pandemic video from marvel..

But it was a fun show that takes place not to long after Steve when in to ice. A bit more lore for you to learn about, especially the first Jarvis you saw on Endgame, you were wondering who that guy was. And no it was the A.I. J.A.R.V.I.S. that becomes Vision. But Tony did name the A.I. after Howard's Jarvis(essentially). Just stuff, for you to be stuff about and stuff 🤷😁

    Two items not explicitly detailed:
The green minotaur is named Rintrah and appears in the comics.
Clea is a member of the Faltine race, just as Dormammu is. In fact, she is a member of Dormammu's family (his niece IIRC). She *appears* to have slashed open a portal to Dormammu's Dark Dimension in the post-credits scene.

He has a cameo in all three of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films. In the first film he is the ring announcer that gives Spider-Man his name, in the second film he is the ticket taker that won't let Peter in to Mary Janes show, and the third he's the maitre d' in the restaurant Peter is going to use to surprise Mary Jane with an engagement ring.
