That's incredible to think those heads have been sitting on that drumkit for over 60 years. They've seen a lot of history! I'd love to know the story of old instruments like this, especially ones that have gone through many hands all over the world. There's a film called The Red Violin that's about that concept. If only we could know in real life!
Well,.. If I could find that snare in Champagne Sparkle, I would have that set complete with the short floor tom legs. The 4x14 is what I played in high school jazz band, gold was the school color. So I would use that snare with my downbeat kit which was Champange, blew the roof of the gym at basketball games! Looking... Thanks, Steve as always, great chops!
I love watching Steve play. Especially those nice dry rims shots. I own almost this exact drumset, and mine sound just like these. ( I don't have the snare though, Mine's a '64 X 6 1/2" Supra.
That snare sounds as good as anything I've ever heard with NEW heads! Proof positive that, sometimes, you need to leave well enough alone. A famous Downbeat user, John Densmore, did not believe in changing drum heads.
@@MM-lp5pp Bonzo didn't get his Thermogloss, 26" bass drum kit until he first toured the U.S. with Vanilla Fudge, so yes, I do believe he was using the BD Luddy kit early on.
Wouldn't change a thing on that kit.Even with 63 year old heads, they sound great.
MAGNIFICENT LUDWIG QUALITY DRUMS!!!
Ludwig Black Diamond Pearl one of the very best wraps.
Very cool kit.
I like how the rack tom is tuned. Great sound coming from that kit overall!

Fantastic playing. Your feel is amazing
I loved the beginning with no snare wire on , a real jungle beat vibe. A very enjoyable vid. Thank you.
WOW! Sounds great with those beat up heads! Those 12" hats sound great too! Great playing Steve!
Nothing like original Ludwig heads on Ludwig drums. Just has that extra tone.
Love the cymbals. The kit is great too. Reminds me of the kit I played in high school jazz band.
Sounds & looks amazing 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Love that set! Great playing! Thanks for all you do.
Would love to hear that kit live in person or with just 1 or 2 room mics.... It sure sounds good

So cool to hear these okd kits! I started with some John Greys from England then Pearl White Rodgers Kit. Wish i had them now.

Amen to that JR! Hope all is well!! Steve
That kit sounded great! I have a 1965 Black Diamond Pearl Ludwig.
John Bonham recorded Led Zeppelin I on the very same drum kit!
I know he toured America, for that record, with that kit. It was a rental. Are you sure he recorded the album with a similar kit?
@@johnsoos6907 yes, Plant was selling that kit at the auction few years ago. I think he donated it.. something like that. There is an article about it
