I started out with 600 150 gr 308 Win Norma rounds and am reloading that brass. I have 1 batch at 4 times fired and still good. The primer pockets were tight but CCIs went in fine. I did have to uniform the pockets because they were shallow when I switched to a European primer, it was slightly proud on a few. I use them for 600 yd F-class. I also bought 200 rounds of their Golden Eagle match and it rocked, sub MOA all day. Norma 6PPC is what a lot of bench rest shooters use from what I hear, I don't do BR.
I initially started with 40 pieces of once fired Hornady Brass, got 18 loadings on them and the Primer pockets were just starting to loosen a little. Now I am working through some new Lapua Brass. I tried the Hornady 147 146 Match factory ammo (40 rounds) and it didn't shoot well at all. Maybe I can try som of the Norma ammo...hmmmm. thanks for watching, I really appreciate it.
Glad you like them! I know they aren't everyone's cup of tea but I don't think anyone else is documenting the erosion of the bore like this. Interest in the scope videos has definitely increased though. Thanks for watching, as always, I appreciate it.
I have only used Sweet's once, when I was in an AR manufacturers class. It worked well, but I haven't found any around me...I need to check for that more often when I travel.
I started using the Bullet Central thour clean system. Literally 40 stroked, no carbon ring and just shining stainless steel. No wait time for solvent to work.
The copoer residue protects the bore ,so when you use copper solvents you loose that protection so your bore has to take all the punishment. Many of the top competitors in long range only clean the copper when accuracy suffers. Barrel life is increased and the copper in the bore does no harm, many barrels get destroyed by over cleaning.
Some competitors don't clean the copper out while others do. With this rifle I am trying to keep copper to a minimum so I am cleaning it out every 100 rounds or so.
@@Halfmilesniper the comment was for those that think copper has to be removed after a 10 or 20 shots or after a hunt, when all you need to do is remove the powder residue as not to attract moisture. 👍
Some Primer use lead Stephen styphenate and others use fulminate of mercury both are equally bad for you in concentration. I thought the Grey streaking looked like lead oxide but didn't consider possibly being from the Primer, I was wondering is the Hornady jacket was too thin? From the Primer sounds more reasonable. Good info either way.
@@Halfmilesniper the eld jackets are thin but i dont think too thin. powder coated is even thinner and even when good powdercoated bullets get smashed with a hammer, you dont see lead. id bet its the primer. nice update on the throat fire cracking. what barrel mfg is it?
I am experimenting with a different cleaning process. I use carbon solvent then JB bore paste abrasive, and that’s it… I don’t use copper solvent at all anymore. This leaves trace amounts of copper in the bore which seems to backfill some of the crevices. So far all my rifles are showing good performance wrt precision under this regime. Btw… I have nothing against copper solvents. I am just trying something, and so far I like it. Also, I have found that it is easier to clean a bore if you do it more frequently. And most importantly the best product I have ever used to aid cleaning, hands down… by a long mile… Is my cheap teslong borescope! I will vary my cleaning effort based on what I see in the bore. Cheers!
I have used JB Bore paste too, usually on the older more pitted barrels of older gun I have acquired along the way. I settled on 100-125 rounds between cleanings because one would likely shoot that many rounds in a match. Seemed like a reasonable point. I appreciate our input and I am curious to see how the long term effect of using JB Bore paste every cleaning is.
Fire cracked got some erosion,,most people dont understand the effects od a overbore cartridge,,and i bet a whole lot of 6.5 needmore owners will be shocked at the way the rifle is burnt out in relatively low round counts,,,heck the 243 win and the 22-250 are overbore and throat cookers
Funny how this rifle series has developed the side quest of tracking the effects of erosion and wear on the bore and accurately counting round to document barrel life. I think it will be an eye opener for many.
@@albertlemont5471 I can't say one way or the other on the 6.5 Creedmoor...to date I have fired exactly 1 round of 6.5 CM, LOL, and that was last Friday morning.
Sorry Bud for missing the live. Was that spot a small area of pitting? And I too an really curious what those two rings are in the barrel. Looks good though brother, keep up the great info. It was pretty cool of Randall to send you almost 60 pieces of brass.
At first glance it did look like pitting, but this rifle hasn't ever gotten wet. I wonder if it is an occlusion of some sort perhaps? very strange, I hadn't noticed that in any of the other times I scoped the bore...very weird. It was very nice of Randle and Mark P to do that!
Good deal! Bore Tech works good without the stink. I do a quick cleaning every time I come back from the range and about every third cleaning I scrub and use a little JB bore paste to finish it squeaky clean, then a couple alcohol patches then dry patch. You should use a little grease on the back of the bolt lugs and where the bolt handle touches the cam. Type of grease is up to you, I use Mobil 1 synthetic th-cam.com/video/LYWy25irFKs/w-d-xo.html
It must be that cartridge that's doing this to your barrel, I have a 300 win mag Savage that I have over 2000 rounds through it, probably closer to 2450, and when I looked through it with my borescope last time, it didn't have near the flame cracking or erosion that yours does, So it's either the cartridge or there's something wrong with the barrel quality.
It's that aluminum tip ammo causing erosion lol. Just kidding people. Don't give meth heads any ideas on what to cook with cause we might have a copper solvent or Hoppes #9 shortage. Good barrel scope video. 🙏👍🇺🇸

That is good to hear...I managed to squeeze 18 loadings out of the once fired brass that was sent to me. The 6.5 PRC seems to be very easy on brass.
