I am by myself most of the time. Most of my life have been by myself because I can not stand people drinking, smoking tobacco products, marijuana, doing drugs, using fool language and coursing. But, I have never, never, ever feel alone because I know that God is with me. Deo gratias. God bless you.
Since childhood didnt stand the friendship with the world. World is toxic. Not everyone but majority. We are all sinners, but "friendship with the world" just makes it worse
Thank you for this lovely and informative visit with Cardinal Burke. I am also always moved by the insightful and respectful presence offered by Fr. Ambrose to all of those whom he interviews. May God bless them both.
A lot of people are saying Eastern Catholic priests can get married, that’s not true. Married Eastern Catholic men may become deacons or priests, but if their wives die they cannot remarry without being reduced to a minor order. Both in the west and the east, once a man is ordained a cleric he cannot contract a new marriage. In the west, married men can become deacons and in rare cases priests. In the east, married men can become both deacons and priests. All of this exists in a framework that recognises the religious life to be the life of perfection and a greater state. In both east and west a man must be celibate (not married) to become a bishop.
@@TheCakeStudios7 the video title specifically frame the question around people who are already priests getting married. People keep responding by saying “in the east priests can get married”. I’m specifically referring to those people There are also some exceptions that allow Latin right married men to become priests
@@whatsup3270 yes, from Protestant sects. Ex Anglican, Episcopalian and Lutheran clergy can be received into the church. But because they don’t have valid orders, they need to be ordained properly. So you still have the case of a now married Catholic lay man (remember his orders were invalid in those Protestant sects) who received special permission that allows him to be ordained despite his marriage
The secular clergy do not enter the religious life, as the regular clergy do. So, for the secular clergy, who do not take religious vows of poverty, chastity and obedience, whether or not they are permitted to marry is a matter for the Church. If the Church did decide that they were free to marry, then they would not be breaking any religious vow if they did then marry. The regular clergy can never marry - they have taken religious vows which permanently exclude entering into the married state.
I’ve had a battle initially . Through prayer , growing spiritually, co operating with Gods guidance, I’ve been celebate for over 30 years. I’m an ordinary divorced woman with annulment . I’ve had the usual pursuers, so tempting with the justification of I’m only human , not a priest, to convince me to give up my Lord. I have transcended . What I have found , is heaven down here on earth . No mortal man can buy or give me that. Cardinal you are ded right. 🏴❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
There are many married Catholic priests in our Eastern Catholic Churches. I do wonder if this subject would do with their imput. Not saying that the Western Church should change course, but it would be interesting to get a fully Catholic and yet different perspective.
Why would God choose a married man to be an Apostle of Jesus Christ (Peter) and then the church that claims he’s their first pope (Do you realize Jesus Christ is an Apostle?) does away with the ability for a man like him to be chosen by God in His body again? Do you think man’s rules will stop God from anointing any man He wants to be an apostle today? But men will stand in the way and say we should be more like Jesus and be celibate as priests. Why don’t you be more like Jesus Christ and read His words and let His Spirit help you to think like Him so you can look like Him. Peter would have been rejected by the Catholic “priesthood” today.
@@Windowsndoors Peter, our first pope actually gave up everything and followed Christ. Including his wife and family. (Then Peter answering, said to him: Behold we have left all things, and have followed thee: what therefore shall we have?) He did not lead a married life after becoming a disciple of Christ. A priest is In Persona Christi. He is married to the church. How can he have another wife? His heart belongs to God alone. This is why in the early church itself, priestly celibacy was made a norm. It is a gift by God to the priest and also to the church. A married man is not free to give his all to God and His church. He is pulled in all directions. It is not fair even on a natural level- to the person involved, let alone the wife and children. A priest has to put God and the church first- before himself. His life is a sacrificial one. Just as Christ whom He represents. Even in some eastern churches with married priests, only celibate men can be consecrated as bishops. I hope you made a typing error. Jesus Christ is the Son of God- the Second person of the Most Holy Trinity- Truly God and truly man. Our Lord, our King and our saviour. Not an apostle.
@@Lambsown78 you all twist scripture. They left all things. A wife is not a thing. Read 1 Corinthians 7. It explains how a married man is supposed to live. It’s not saying to divorce your wife. Peter did not do that. God would not command to love your wife as Christ loved the church in one breath and then by the same Spirit “Peter, and all men must leave their wives.” Is God confused or double minded? A man is devoted to Christ and that’s why wives are commanded to submit to their husbands as to the Lord. God will always lead by the head and the husband is the head. He created life for order and if there’s going to be marriage there must be a leader. It’s not to be controlling or more important. The man bears the responsibility of listening and following the Lord like Abram and Sarai. If you have a wife who wines and complains as you go you still have to follow and if she wants what’s behind you have to let her go and follow.
As someone who is Eastern Rite Catholic, we still value celibacy however we do not see it as a barrier to priestly ordination - celibacy is a gift, not a given, and just because a man has not received that gift does not mean he should be barred from said ordination (though episcopal ordination is different). But I would be curious to see an official answer from this channel.
Just been up to Scotland to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of my uncles ordination. 50 years a Priest! And an amazing uncle too to his many nieces & nephews❤️
Here is a trustworthy saying: Whoever aspires to be an overseer desires a noble task. Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him, and he must do so in a manner worthy of full[a] respect. (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God’s church?) - 1 Timothy 3
This is correct. If the celibacy law ever gets repealed in the West, only already married men could enter formation, with the wife having 100% veto power. Once the wife or her priest-husband dies, neither spouse can ever remarry. Those single men who enter seminary will still be bound to celibacy from the get-go. Such rules won’t apply to religious orders, just the diocesan priesthood.
Some Eastern Orthodox now allow a priest to re-marry if his wife dies and he still has young children. The intent is to provide those children with a mother figure during their formative years. This is permitted under economia only and is not a standard practice.
While I understand the reasons, how do you defend this argument to in the light of First Timothy Chapter 3: 1-5 which reads: " 1This saying is trustworthy: whoever aspires to the office of bishop desires a noble task. 2 Therefore, a bishop must be irreproachable, married only once, temperate, self-controlled, decent, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not a drunkard, not aggressive, but gentle, not contentious, not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own household well, keeping his children under control with perfect dignity; 5 for if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how can he take care of the church of God?"
As an avid Bible reader, I have also struggled with this passage in regards to Catholic discipline. It is clearly Biblical that priests should be allowed to marry if not encouraged in some instances. Even the first Pope, Pope Saint Peter, was a married man. While the practice may be beautiful in some ways, the enforcement of is not biblical and goes against the practice of most of church history.
I thought it actually said "Deacon" and not "Bishop" Though??? Priests can't be married, but decaons can. Priests have to give their whole heart to God because it also says in the bible(book of corinthians I believe) that when a man is married his heart is not given completely unto God its given to his wife and his Time is spent on earthly duties that stem from his marriage. Whereas a priest is free to serve God with his entire being.
I think you don't need to defend this because if you follow the church then it is mandatory to follow canon laws. This celibacy is more a church law and discipline than a dogma or doctrine IE a pope or the council of bishops can change this. Whatever, this is a church discipline and it also shows how successful the church is such that even after 2k years there are people who gives up their bodily pleasures and serve the God.
@@eoinMB3949 You're correct, there is a portion that talks about deacons. But it also talks about bishops, actually the chapter starts out with bishops clearly stating they should be allowed to be married. You are also correct about 1st Corinthians, however, that is in regards to all men and not specifically priests. Is 1 Corinthians then calling all men to be celebent as you are saying? Of course not, the Bible says a man is to leave his parents and be joined to his wife. Paul also speaks of the wonders of marriage in Ephesians. He's simply speaking of the gift of celibacy, as Paul himself was celibate, but he certainly is not calling all people nor priests to forced celibacy.
@@AthanSMaliakkalwhile I don't disagree with you, priests were allowed to be married in the church longer than they've been denied the sacrament. If you look into the history, the main reason that celibacy was enforced was due to property rights and the church losing property due to marriage. The enforcement of the practice was not necessarily a religious one.
I highly recommend the books " Apostolic Origins of Priestly Celibacy" and "From the Depths of Our Hearts" by Cardinal Sarah and Pope Emeritus Benedict. 🙏
The bible clearly states that priests can be married. History says the same. Its another L for RC. The consequences of unmarried priests are absolutely disgraceful, just look at poland and the comstant scandals.
To point out one thing though that someone is going to also point out... We are Apostolic Catholics... Some of the Apostles were married. And after the passion and resurrection. These Married men went out into the world to expand the church.
Im commenting the title of this video: This isnt accurate. Catholic priests can be maried. I know several of them. Roman catholic priests cant be married, but priests of all other CATHOLIC rites, can be married, catholicism isnt roman only. cathecism 1580 confirms that.
The secular clergy do not take religious vows, as the regular clergy do. So, the secular clergy do not take religious vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. The secular clergy would break no religious vow if they were to marry. So, if the Church decided that the secular clergy were free to marry, then they would not be breaking any vow if they did so. Celibacy is considered to be a “discipline” to which a Priest is invited to agree prior to ordination. If he decides that he is not prepared to submit to that discipline, then he would not be ordained. However, for those clergy who have come into the Church through the Ordinariate, who are already married, they may be ordained and remain married. However, they would not be able to enter a religious order and take religious vows - the married state precludes the religious state entirely and this is not just a matter of discipline, but something which is inherent to the religious life.
What about those who quote 1 Timothy 3:2-12 - specially the 12th verse. "Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well."????
@@alisongiunti5859True, but the celibacy law also always applied to subdeacons. There was no permanent diaconate as an institution for most of Church history.
The Orthodox Church in the Quinesext Council adamantly condemned the Latins for insisting that a priest MUST be celibate. Peter was married... in fact all the disciples were... and for 6 centuries the West had married priests.... let us recall Zachariah was the high priest who was married to Elizabeth and they walked "in all the commandments of God." A priest does not have to be celibate, and this is a heresy the Catholic Church teaches today and one of the main reasons there was a schism, apart from the filioque and papal supremacy.
They do not teach that a priest *must* be celibate. As you saw in the interview (if you watched it) they describe celibate clergy as a "gift." But the RCC is quite clear this is not an unchangeable dogma -- it can be changed, but so far the popes see no reason to. For the record I am Orthodox.
Yes, they can. There are tens of thousands of married Catholic priests today in literally every rite, including the Latin rite. That’s right, you heard me. The Latin right contains priests inducted through the Personal Ordinariate of the Chair of St Peter from Anglicanism. The Ordinariate is part of the Latin Rite, and many Ordinariate priests have actually been transferred to ordinary Latin dioceses, where they continue to live and serve while married and fully sexually active. Because Catholic priests CAN be married, and have always been married, since the non Latin rites are ancient. Before the 1100s, married priests in the Latin rite were the norm. Before universal enforcement kicked in, they remained in existence quite commonly in the Latin Rite for centuries after. There is absolutely nothing in Catholic doctrine or the essence of the priesthood that forbids a priest from marrying, it is a mutable and changeable discipline that has not existed for the majority of Church history and desperately needs to go away. The Byzantine Catholics and Ordinariate do not have a vocations crisis.
Neither do the Traditional Latin Mass orders, who must be single and celibate. Once ordained, a priest can’t marry. All married priests were already Sacramentally married long before even considering their vocations.
It's actually a matter of decision. Some come to the Catholic Church already married; some are married then become Deacons, but the marriage they are in is the only one they want. Celibacy will always be the norm in the priestly life and among Nuns and consecrated men and women. It's because the whole life is given to God and God's people.
My Coworker's Methodist minister father in law attended seminary and is an ordained Roman Catholic priest. He has a living wife. The East allows marriage. Why can't the priest who want to be bishops remain celibate?
I heard a story about how a pastor's daughter felt neglected because her parents were too busy caring for the other members of the church to care for her. She was also under a lot of undue moral scrutiny exactly because she was the daughter of a pastor, and felt a tremendous amount of guilt and pressure throughout her life. Her parents were good pastors, but they weren't good parents to their own daughter. Shepherding really isn't a simple vocation like many other jobs.
Jesus often says in Scripture: leave your family and follow me. And he also said basically that everyone is his mother, brother, sister,. Thank you God for sending us our pastors and priests who we call " Father"
If the pastor is protestant then there NOT Christian and on there way to HELL because there’s NO salvation outside the holy Catholic Church which is the ONLY CHURCH
This is a doctrine I can't get behind with the basis of Holy Scripture supporting priests getting married. St. Peter himself was married. Matthew 8:14 (ESV) "And when Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever." This verse indicates that Peter had a mother-in-law, implying he was married. Many other apostles were married. In 1 Corinthians 9:5, St. Paul refers to the fact that other apostles had believing wives. 1 Corinthians 9:5 (ESV) "Do we not have the right to take along a believing wife, as do the other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas?" This verse implies that other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas (Peter) had wives. St. Paul's charge to Timothy is for church leaders to be "one woman men." Here is evidence that church leaders, including bishops (overseers) and deacons, could be married. Here are a few key passages that address this topic: 1 Timothy 3:2 (ESV): "Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach." 1 Timothy 3:12 (ESV): "Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well." Titus 1:6 (ESV): "If anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination."
There’s nothing intrinsically wrong about priests getting married. The challenge is that the entire reality of the age and the entire system in the church has messed up a lot of things. Catholic priests getting married now is going to get things pretty messed up badly. Celibacy is still a great virtue today.
Why do priests don’t get married, so they only have to feed a priest and not a whole family 1 Timothy 3:1-4 Qualifications for bishop The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of bishop, he desires a noble task. Therefore a bishop must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, This a bishop.
How can you go to a spiritual father with the issues in your relationship if such person can't relate. No amount of teachings will be equal to the actual experience.
The priest doesn't give couples counseling, but spiritual guidance. To encourage and guide you in the path of sacrificial love for your spouse, children, and your 'neighbour' (i.e. those God has put around you). Who better to show this path of love if not the man who chooses LOVE itself, sacrificing the desires of the flesh to have a heart more available to your concerns? On that same token (one could argue), how can you have a meaningful relationship with Christ in his sacred humanity since he was celibate? How can you relate to Him or Him to you? That beauty lies there, in that he loves you (each one of us) so much that he forgoes that natural good desire for spouse and family to give his heart fully to you and me. That's the point of celibacy. It also gives hope (with witness of good celibate men) that God is worth a lifetime to wait for, to belong just to Him. I'm not the kind of guy to ever comment on youtube videos (first time I have, I think). It's just that I've seen this said by many others and it saddens me. That priest has made the sacrifice for you, as Christ has. For struggles of married life per se, or to exchange ideas about married life more specifically then it makes sense to chat to other married men. Those who are living a good Christian life in particular. Writing the above with lots of love, brother. As I said, I felt compelled to address your point. Onwards and upwards !
Celibacy is complete surrender. It is holy. It will further strengthen the priestly life. Remember the holy priests of our Church. There is no need to bring new decisions in order to increase the vocation in the church. In that case, the church will have to accept many mistakes in this modern world.
@@AA-xo9uw Did Christ tell you that himself? Can I have his cellphone number so he can tell me in a phone call? Celibacy is not working for 40,000 Roman Catholic priests around the world who are having sex with other men. Also, there are an estimated 10,000 born with Roman Catholic priests as the father. The poor kid is often lied to because the Roman Catholic Church can’t have scandals.
Stupid: it most certainly is not a denial of sexuality, but in fact, it's an affirmation and acceptance of the fact, which is the basis for a decision to voluntarily renounce marriage and all sexual activity for the sake of the Kingdom.
Catholic priests cannot marry AFTER ordination. Roman Catholics many times forget the fullness of the Body of Christ, the Church. Eastern Churches ordain married men to the deaconate then to the priesthood. Only celibate clergy can become bishops. "Roman" is just one of many rites in the Church. I have had both celibate and married pastors in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. They are wonderful.
Celibacy is not a Catholic requirement for priesthood, it is a Roman Catholic requirement for priesthood. Other Catholic rites do not require this. This is not an opinion, merely an observation. Please take from it what you will.
Mandatory celibacy is a discipline that can change, I think, it should. Diocesan priests that live alone like bachelors is not good. Community and monasteries are the way to go
The Catholic Church in communion with the Pope allows its priests to marry, as in the case of many eastern rite catholics, or oriental Churches. The Roman rite, or the Latin rite which does not allow its priests to marry is just one of the many Catholic Churches in communion with the Pope. Celibacy for priests for those in the Roman Catholic Church is a unique gift to the Church and the world, and the struggles included make it more precious especially in today’s world that idolizes carnal pleasure. Celibacy has continuously produced saints and martyrs than sinners and monsters; many just refused to see and accept it.
I believe you may have worded your statements incorrectly. The Catholic Church does not allow priests to marry. It allows already married men to become priests. The married priests that exist married before ordination.
I am a married Catholic priest so I suppose the Cardinal thinks I am not a “ real” priest…Orthodox married priest? Melkite/Eastern Rite…? What world does this man live in?
Have you not read the call of Jesus that "so one flock of sheep and one shepherd"? Obey the Pope. Celibacy is a total surrender. It is a gift from God. It further sanctifies the priestly life. Perhaps a married priest has more commitment to his family. It shouldn't. At any time a priest should be able to approach the faithful entrusted to him at any time, be it night or day. His life must be wholly for Jesus and the believers. So should every Catholic priest. We should not look for things in other churches. The Catholic Church is one, holy, universal..Amen
You neglected to mention that prior to ordination you received a dispensation from refraining from conjugal relations with your spouse and also agreed that if your spouse precedes you in death that you will then adopt the discipline of celibacy for the remainder of your life. Why?
@clivedytor2069 Clive, if you're truly an Orthodox or Eastern Rite priest, please identify your Church and where you serve, - the eparchy, and your bishop. Thank you.
There are some nut jobs on this channel sadly s😊ome of them in positions of authority. Wasn’t St Peter married…? The issue is good priests not single/ married.
Think of Europe. In the past you were at the forefront of faith. Today you are fighting with unbelief and religious extremists. How many saints you contributed to the church once. The same is the case with American countries. I am an Indian. Christianity is in the minority here. However, many Indian saints have been canonized by the Pope in recent years. The number of priests here is increasing day by day. First, live a role model for your children. Raise them in the faith. Then there will be many vocations in the church. The Pope had to accept many sins because of your ruined life. What should I say? Remember that when there are crises in the church, Jesus is at the helm of the boat that is the church. Call him and beg him. He will help us in due time.. Amen
Yes you are alone but only in human eyes and not in spiritual eyes because the Lord Jesus is always with you until forever! celibacy for me is the best self-sacrificial gift you can offer to the Lord personally and only few men were and are able to use this gift. thanks for our dear priests who were called to serve and be with Jesus forever!!!
Nobody can imitate Christ or even say with the heart Lord without the grâce of the Holly Spirit. You cattolics you forgot the words of Saint Paul who said its should be free choise and calling not imposed. Its présomption to believe that we can do it without Jesus grâce and help. If you see you need à woman than get marry be happy and serve the Lord. If you see you dont need one dont take it and ask God to give grâce. It s à vocation and à gift either that you marry or not. God created with free will so we ask God to discover our real vocation. Not to be imposéd by human laws. Priests could get married until the 1100s. They usually willed their properties to their oldest son. The church decided that it should inherit these properties, so they convened a council and delared that priests must be celibate With no son to inherit, everything he owned went to the church. Check ot out, not making this shit up. So don't tell me its a "gift fromGod." I was a seminarian for 8 years, never learned this til long after I left😮😮😮😮
@@AaronGlenn88 No one has a right to be ordained. One of the reasons why the seminary is so long is so an individual can discern if they have the ability to give up everything as Christ explains in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke in order to serve the Kingdom without impediment. Relativists like you fail to recognize that and you also fail to comprehend that the ministerial Priesthood of the ordained isn't a 9-5 vocation.
Actually there are exceptions to this rule: Byzantine, Anglican Ordinariate and Maronite Rites do have married clergy. And in the event a convert to Catholicism had been either an Anglican (Episcopal) priest or a Lutheran pastor, he can seek permission from his bishop to return to seminary for additional classes and be ordained as a Catholic priest- and these 2 denominations more often than not have married clergy!
23 of the 24 Churches sui juris which comprise the Catholic Church ordain, as a norm, married men. However if the spouse of a married Priest precedes him in death, the Priest must then adopt the discipline of celibacy for the remainder of his life. That also applies to married protestant ministers who convert to Catholicism and are ordained in the Latin Rite under the 1980 Pastoral Provision or the Anglican Ordinariate,
Even at the Council of Nicea, St Paphnuti (himself a celibate monk) prophesied that enforcing mandatory celibacy for priests would result in massive sin. Have we not seen the fruits of this? The city of Rome has an ancient tradition of all her priests being celibate and there is no reason for that to change. Yet nor was there ever any good reason to force that pious practice, which many struggle to bare, upon the entire Church.
Read Canons XXVII and XXXIII from the Council of Elvira. I'd be curious for your explanation of the reason for the epidemic of sexual abuse of minors which occurs in public schools since you can't use your crutch of blaming celibacy for those crimes and disorders.
He chose that way because he’s god that would be the worst case of incest in the history of mankind I made you I created you and I’m gonna have sex with you. That’s terrible. I think we just missed that point and then we imitate him not even understanding who he is, he’s God there’s no way possible you could ever imitate him, do you want 40 days and 40 nights fasting then afterwards, he got tempted by the same person that temps us every single day of our lives, and want to know something that’s different we fall into temptation and God won’t because he’s God and he knows exactly who is trying to tempt him the person that’s trying to tempt us knows him way more than we know God so that’s crazy how little we still hold our God in our hands not knowing a clue thinking we know, but we don’t I don’t know about you, but everything that Jesus came here to do pretty damn clear to me
This is unbelievable and unacceptable. Calling a guy who has insulted the Pope and affected ecclesial communion as Burke. I admired you guys, but count me out.
Suggest you obtain a copy of "The Apostolic Origins Of Priestly Celibacy" by Christian Cochini, read it deliberately and completely and become edified.
He may be married to the church, but he gets his sexual release from other priests. Remember, at least 10% of Roman Catholic priests are living the lavender lifestyle.
I am of the opinion that married priests should be allowed. I'm actually of the opinion that priests should be allowed to get married even after ordination. That's my opinion so take it for what it is worth.
Why Catholic Priests Can't Get Married? This title is inaccurate and makes me not even want to listen to it. There are plenty of married Catholic priests, just not many in the Latin rite. The Latin Rite needs to stop acting like its rite is the only one.
Technically no priest, Western or Eastern that can “get married”. Rather they must be married before ordination. In the Western rite they just simply must be celibate for ordination
Technically no Orthodox priest can marry. They must rather be married before ordination, but cannot be ordained after the diaconate. This is the case in the Eastern Catholic rites as well. There are many celibate Orthodox priests too and all Bishops must be celibate. To accuse a man who chooses celibacy of homosexuality is ignorant. Our Lord was celibate and many of our beloved Apostles were celibate
@@kyrieeleison1243 However, the research indicates that 56% of Roman Catholic priests are sexually attracted to men, and 10% of Roman Catholic priests are having sex with other men. Despite church teaching on homosexuality, the church has a credibility issue as it says one thing, but is willfully ignorant that homosexuals make up half of the clergy.
At one time he was. His wife, however, is never mentioned in Scripture and his exchange with Christ in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke are often overlooked by people like you. "Then Peter answering, said to Him: Behold we have left all things, and have followed Thee: what therefore shall we have? And Jesus said to them: Amen, I say to you, that you, who have followed Me, in the regeneration, when the Son of man shall sit on the seat of His majesty, you also shall sit on twelve seats judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for My name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall possess life everlasting. And many that are first, shall be last: and the last shall be first." Matthew 19:27-30 "Then Peter said: Behold, we have left all things, and have followed Thee. Who said to them: Amen, I say to you, there is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, Who shall not receive much more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting." Luke 18:28-30
The 23 Churches sui juris in the Eastern Rites that ordain, as the norm, married men all have a shortage of Priests. Your solution is specious at best and refuted by facts.
But… Jesus was God. He knew it. He knew he would soon die. The reason for celibacy wasn’t at all the same as that of a priest. Next we recall the book of Acts re qualifications for clergy. They assumed most were married. The “ they” were Jesus very apostles who knew him better than anyone since. Sorry, a noble concept, but as a psychotherapist who deals with God given drives, I learned quickly that to fight or dismiss the power of Gods design , for family, children, we fool ourselves. In come the perverts for whom celibacy from wives isn’t a problem. Soon Satan inhabits their spirits. It’s estimated that over 40% of clergy are living double lives and pretending that weekly confession will make their behavior ok… while it colors their spirits.
@@josephjacob3274 perhaps one could consider the fact that the video was titled as it is in order to attract the attention of Christians of other denominations who might have an innate objection to this Church discipline without wanting to get them bogged down in Catholic ecclesiological structures. Well,no....That not true. It's true that there are some Eastern Rite priests who are married, however they were already married BEFORE they become a priest. Not after. An eastern rite priest cannot get married after he becomes a priest.

@Ggdivhjkjl Well given all the scandals that have come out from priests "behaving badly", I don't think it's working that well. Perhaps a discipline could be implemented that the priest may not have a romantic relationship with parishioners from his own church.
Brooo, yes but married men can't become priests AT ALL in Latin Rite. That's the point that people are talking about.

There are many married Catholic priests in our Eastern Catholic Churches. I do wonder if this subject would do with their imput. Not saying that the Western Church should change course, but it would be interesting to get a fully Catholic and yet different perspective.
That most Catholic priests are celibate is largely an accident of the history due to the Latin Church's overwhelming numbers.
@@Windowsndoors
Peter, our first pope actually gave up everything and followed Christ.
Including his wife and family.
(Then Peter answering, said to him: Behold we have left all things, and have followed thee: what therefore shall we have?)
He did not lead a married life after becoming a disciple of Christ.
@@Lambsown78 he did not leave his wife. Jesus commands to love your wife but allowed Peter to divorce his? No.

So, what about the Eastern Rite Catholic priests who are married?
As someone who is Eastern Rite Catholic, we still value celibacy however we do not see it as a barrier to priestly ordination - celibacy is a gift, not a given, and just because a man has not received that gift does not mean he should be barred from said ordination (though episcopal ordination is different). But I would be curious to see an official answer from this channel.

No Priest can get married anywhere ! But Eastern Catholic ✝️ and Eastern Orthodox Churches ☦️ can ordain married men !
While I understand the reasons, how do you defend this argument to in the light of First Timothy Chapter 3: 1-5 which reads:
" 1This saying is trustworthy: whoever aspires to the office of bishop desires a noble task.
Even in eastern rite, marriage has to happen before ordination. In Syro Malabar Eastern rite priests can't get married.
Amen!
What about those who quote 1 Timothy 3:2-12 - specially the 12th verse. "Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well."????
A deacon is not a priest.
Man, you're a genius. Let's put you on charge since you've got it all figured out!
It's actually a matter of decision. Some come to the Catholic Church already married; some are married then become Deacons, but the marriage they are in is the only one they want. Celibacy will always be the norm in the priestly life and among Nuns and consecrated men and women. It's because the whole life is given to God and God's people.
Romanian Catholic Church has married priests
Thank YOU SO MUCH. WHEN CLARITY SPEAKS, CHARITY IS CLEAR!!!
In Poland, Priests and Bishops are allowed to marry.
Good point.
Matthew 8:14 (ESV)
"And when Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever."
This verse indicates that Peter had a mother-in-law, implying he was married.
Many other apostles were married.
In 1 Corinthians 9:5, St. Paul refers to the fact that other apostles had believing wives.
1 Corinthians 9:5 (ESV)
"Do we not have the right to take along a believing wife, as do the other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas?"
This verse implies that other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas (Peter) had wives.
St. Paul's charge to Timothy is for church leaders to be "one woman men." Here is evidence that church leaders, including bishops (overseers) and deacons, could be married. Here are a few key passages that address this topic:
1 Timothy 3:2 (ESV): "Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach."
1 Timothy 3:12 (ESV): "Let deacons each be the husband of one wife, managing their children and their own households well."
Titus 1:6 (ESV): "If anyone is above reproach, the husband of one wife, and his children are believers and not open to the charge of debauchery or insubordination."
I would love to know who shot and edited this video
Wow
There’s nothing intrinsically wrong about priests getting married. The challenge is that the entire reality of the age and the entire system in the church has messed up a lot of things. Catholic priests getting married now is going to get things pretty messed up badly. Celibacy is still a great virtue today.
Why do priests don’t get married, so they only have to feed a priest and not a whole family

Celibacy is complete surrender. It is holy. It will further strengthen the priestly life. Remember the holy priests of our Church. Catholic priests cannot marry AFTER ordination. Roman Catholics many times forget the fullness of the Body of Christ, the Church.
And not many are gifted
I am a married Catholic priest so I suppose the Cardinal thinks I am not a “ real” priest…Orthodox married priest? Melkite/Eastern Rite…? What world does this man live in?
He lives in a world of make-believe like the rest of us.

Amen

But many popes had wives and mistresses in the past. So why did the RCC ban marriages for priests today?
Suggest you obtain a copy of "The Apostolic Origins Of Priestly Celibacy" by Christian Cochini, read it deliberately and completely and become edified.
Why muslim men looks like jesus christ, muslim women looks like mother Mary, but non of the Christian looks like both of them?
Byzantine Catholics: am I a joke to you
the priest is married to Holy Mother Church, that's why we call them father. you can't have 2 wives.
Latin rite should be preferred over any other rites!!
You must be a troll. That's not the teaching of the Church.
Technically no priest, Western or Eastern that can “get married”. Rather they must be married before ordination. In the Western rite they just simply must be celibate for ordination
@@kenchrusch9020 no he's current. Do you know what the Eastern Catholic Churches are?
@@cameronoleary3916no those are deacons, priests are the celibates just like the nuns.
The Orthodox Preists can marry. They are just as Holy. Is the objection biased towards preserving homosexual(celibate) clerics and their influence?
Well when you consider that the Church teaches that homosexuals are not to be admitted to the priesthood, I’m not sure your comment really holds.
Isn't it that you have to be married BEFORE you are ordained? That's how it is in the Eastern Catholic Churches
@@israeliana yes, so priests cannot get married. But a married man can become a priest
St Peter the Apostle was married
And many that are first, shall be last: and the last shall be first." Matthew 19:27-30
"Then Peter said: Behold, we have left all things, and have followed Thee. Who said to them: Amen, I say to you, there is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God's sake, Who shall not receive much more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting." Luke 18:28-30
Catholic priests should be able to choose to marry if they want to. I am a practicing Catholic. We are so short of priests.
Hahahahah, I have heard 5,000 highly educated good behaved faithful not to be priest, don't you know why ?
Rather, worthy married men should be ordained as priests, as they are in the Eastern Churches.
The 23 Churches sui juris in the Eastern Rites that ordain, as the norm, married men all have a shortage of Priests. Your solution is specious at best and refuted by facts.
@@jenniferfulford3871 My question not yet answered, as usual, God failed to answer people.
Eastern Catholics would disagree with you...
First of all, ROMAN Catholics priests can't get married. Eastern catholic priests can!
I think Cardinal Burke knows that.
@@jcers maybe they should stop assuming all catholics are not Roman.
Amen brother. Please support the comment I also put on this thread. I think you'd agree.
@@josephjacob3274 perhaps one could consider the fact that the video was titled as it is in order to attract the attention of Christians of other denominations who might have an innate objection to this Church discipline without wanting to get them bogged down in Catholic ecclesiological structures. I’m certain that the person who titled this video is well aware of the 23 other Catholic Churches outside of the Latin Church.
Well,no....That not true. It's true that there are some Eastern Rite priests who are married, however they were already married BEFORE they become a priest. Not after. An eastern rite priest cannot get married after he becomes a priest.
Yes i know jesus wasn't married the other churches priests and ministers can be married
OUR PRIESTS SHOULD NOT MARRY AS THEY ARE CHOSEN BY GOD TO DEVOTE THEIR LIFES TO HIM 💯💯💯 AND TO BE OUR SHEPHERDS .IF THEY WERE MARRIED OTHER FAMILY COMMITTMENTS WOULD COME BEFORE THEIR SHEEP .
Many other Christian religions have pastors who are married and lead many sheep.
@@Videx19 Well if your married you couldn't look after you flock 💯 that's my opinion
THANK YOU GOD BLESS 🙏
Catholic priest can not get married because they do not follow the one Holy catholic Apostolic Church of the Holy Fathers and the Ecumenical council's decision
They are currently heretical 😢
Incorrect. Suggest you read Matthew 19 and see what Christ Himself has to say on the topic.
Someone needs to tell the Cardinal we have married priests. (He also needs to take off some lbs. I guess he has nothing to do except cause problems.)
That’s just uncharitable
Your attitude is very disrespectful.
Yes, there are some Catholic priests in the Eastern rites that are married. However, they were not priests when they got married. Priests cannot get married. If he is widowed, he cannot marry again.
Go to confession.
@@calebadcock363 we have married priests. Burke does not have job because he has made a mess everywhere he served. And he has eaten too much - gluttony!

Which Catholic Bible is the most accurate ?
Eg Gal 2:7
Duoay Rheims & Vulgate write Paul - Gospel OF the UNcircumcison, Peter - Gospel OF the circumcision.
RSV-CE, New Amer Bible write Paul - Gospel TO the UNcircumcison, Peter - Gospel TO the circumcision.
Which is correct ?
Gospel TO or Gospel OF ?
I am of the opinion that married priests should be allowed.
I'm actually of the opinion that priests should be allowed to get married even after ordination.
That's my opinion so take it for what it is worth.
Not allowing priests to marry after ordination is intended as a way of protecting parishioners from being preyed upon.
@Ggdivhjkjl Well given all the scandals that have come out from priests "behaving badly", I don't think it's working that well. Perhaps a discipline could be implemented that the priest may not have a romantic relationship with parishioners from his own church.
That seems a much simpler restriction than banning them from getting married entirely.
23 of the 24 Churches sui juris that comprise that comprise the Church ordain, as a norm, married men.
@@FinalLugiaGuardian Public school teachers are allowed to marry but that hasn't prevented the epidemic of the sexual abuse of minors from occurring public schools, has it?
