Both got pros & cones VW - More chassis weight (no chassis vibration till 140 ), more cabin insulation (less external noise till 140 ) - both resulting to less fuel efficiency due to more total mass (VW adds Cylinder deactivation now a days, that makes engine less reliable, as remedy). And less performance if it was an NA (port injection), (drive an mpfi VW, you ll get what I mean). There is no other way for VW other than adding GDI turbo for performance. In Diesels it doesn't matter coz of better low to mid torque (diesel without turbo is a dead car). Petrol need a downshift or add turbo ! Steering (electric) response is slight stiff at stop turns, but good till 140, so bad for city turns. Due to more total mass/weight the breaking distance is more. we can improve it by widening tires or upsizing break roters/calipers but eats away fuel efficiency. In windy roads VW steering is harder to turn coz of more total weight moving right & left. Where it shines is straight highways !! Polo got a slight edge over vento in windy roads coz of less wheelbase and vice versa . Being turbo charged its an over square design (good till mid range). VW manuals are notchy with long travel slightly harder clutch. Autos are better. Germans are good in Diesels !. Less reliable and more maintenance being turbo direct injection. Honda - Supreme engine, revving till 7000 rpm,(a typical under square engine design ie a crazy top end ) light weight chassis ( no vibration till 120). less insulation (good till 120). Less breaking distance due to lightweight chassis. Ease in City turns coz of light steering at stop turns. Good in windy zig zag roads, ie less turning weight on steering due to less chassis weight. At highways, perfect till 120, beyond that feels chassis vibration and wind noise and steering feels slacks at center position. If the driver is confident enough, can push till 180 coz of its fabulous engine. The safest thing is its less breaking distance due to less weight. Honda manual are awesome (light clutch with less travel). Awesome fuel efficiency being lightweight. Awesome Honda /Japanese petrol reliability ! (we know that, from our bikes right ?) No comments on body rigidness (5 star safety) coz we can't predict, whom we are going to collide with. For me breaking in more important ! And If u drag race a Petrol PFI with Diesel turbo, till top speed. Petrol always wins due to its supreme top end. One should experience both engines (under square NA PFI & over square turbo GDI), both got unique charms ! BTW I don't like Diesels, its meant or hauling not racing.
