Starfield is less than what everyone was hoping it would be, and now Bethesda is arguing with bad steam reviews in some pathetic attempt at damage control. You know it's a bad sign when the artist or studio choses to attack their audience instead of listen to negative feedback so they can address the complaints.

We already knew that Bethesda's PR department was dogshit after the Fallout 76 debacles, but this just makes it even more clear that they're far past their glory days as a company.

The redemption arc to FO76 was more of a 'meh' to a slightly more polished 'meh'. It was "simpler" in that case because they opted out of NPCs. So they added them with a bit of a story and some bug squashing.. and that was about it. Redeeming Starfield is going to be one major pain of a journey because I can't even see how you would do it to a point where I'd want to waste time to install it again. It would have to be a complete remake, preferably with a complete overhaul of their engine or using something else... either case is like a 5-10 year prospect which I highly doubt Bethesda will take upon themselves which means we'll get half baked 'fixes' as always from Bethesda.

Bethesda needs to fire their head of marketing. And then they need to put all of their resources into a new engine. If they refuse to do this the competition will destroy them. Yes they will survive with Microsofts money but nobody will take them seriously anymore and the player base will reflect that.

They also been doing it on the actual Xbox "Ratings and reviews" section on the games marketplace. Player reviews here are limited to 1000 characters.
This is one quote they have repeatedly made to the many negative reviews....
"While space may be a bit overwhelming at first, there are many different ways to enjoy Starfield such as Missions, Exploration, Roleplaying, Outpost building and Starship building."
They been copy/pasting this to negative reviews since September up to about mid November. They stopped replying to reviews now I think.

I've noticed it more and more, both by many studios and by users who aren't users but some kind of paid troll or fake fanboy. It's embarrassing to watch honestly. When I asked on a Paradox forum on Steam why all the posts (which I didn't write) with negative opinions in them that didn't break any rule but only were expressing their opinions were moved/locked/deleted I got as an answer that I was being "melodramatic" and they locked that too. Revolting. I guess blocking the negative reviews for "unusual activity" wasn't quite enough yet

The Put points in different skills part is what really made me, what different skills? there all the same, more damage, and perk wall for most game mechanics like ship and outpost and weapon crafting, there just perk walls.
i have no idea how from, fallout you get stats in special, and perk be a extra icing on the top, and lockpicking and hacking is something you just did more, on a perk, just the skill level, the perk was just extra stuff on top like recycle lockpicks, more ammo, more loot, more caps, less body pin breaks, more forgiving bobby pin, etc.
just on the lock picking, how do you evolve, from just practicing being able to open complex lockpicks and having perk an effect as 2 sperate things.
to needing to grind to advance the perk chore, and then spend a point to be able pick higher tiers.
it's just a massive downgrade all around, and then add that the lock picking vs other Bethesda title especially oblivion, it's just massive downgrade.
and then hacking and lockpicking are combined in the same mechanic in starfield, rather the different like in fallout.
    it's an absolute downgrade.

Another important question is, if it isn't as popular as they want will they throw out all their plans no matter how great out the window due to giving up like so many other companies. For every fallout 76 and no man sky and final fantasy 14, there are games abandoned after a year or two.

Yeah, its missing a story with consequences. The procedurally generated planets are boring as shit too. They only partially generate planets and can't really be bothered to generate truly interesting geologic features. There are no volcanos. No rivers. No river deltas. No peninsulas. Very few lakes, mostly tiny ponds that are sometimes floating above the terrain or cut off at the edge of a terrain tile. It's just a tremendous let down. There are only so many locations that can be procedurally generated so if you do explore them you run in to the same nonsense locations with the same inbuilt short stories over and over. Its like if you walked around the commonwealth and ran in to Saugus Ironworks 14 times and the castle 18 times.

How hard is it to make it so it doesn't take 5 minutes to transfer a couple hundred rounds to an ally from the 3 or 4 thousand you have in your inventory. This was an issue with Cyberpunk and got fixed a lot faster there. The problem is Bethesda would rather try to gaslight you into thinking the game is good than actually get to work fixing the most egregious flaws in the game. It wouldn't be a great game but if it were smoothly playable and didn't crash all the time, it wouldn't be getting half the vitriol it receives.
The Crucible would have been an engaging and satisfying side mission I found the best way - by exploring, if they didn't all spontaneously attack you for no reason, keeping you from completing the mission.
Would be nice if they had made outpost building an actually useful thing to do. Best to just outfit a ship with a big cargo hold with crafting facilities. In NG+, I have one OP. There is one thing there, a storage crate for stashing contraband.
My NG+ is mostly going the same as the first. The game is set up so that if you aren't mostly good, it isn't really playable. You can't take any of the companions with you to do piracy or theft. It would be like trying to do a heist with your mom.

Starfield's glory was clouded. You can't blame the devs because it released in the midst of revolutionary games that are masterpiece in their own right - Baldur's Gate 3, Tears of the kingdom, Spiderman 2, the phantom liberty dlc for cyberpunk ( technically not a game but you get the idea). To some people that love rpg games with that Bethesda magic in them, really cherish starfield.

I would like to note, in the defense of whatever underpaid workers Bethesda tasked with pasting these replies, as someone who's worked customer support for a large company, which did involve considerable use of pre-written responses to common questions, it's very unlikely any of the people actually posting the messages had much room to do better. It's likely a combination of factors that lead to this terrible response: 1) being incredibly limited in what (unapproved) responses they could actually draft themselves, leaving them little (if any) alternative to just pasting the same paragraph, 2) having extremely tight time requirements (you try writing a unique and detailed response to each negative user review, with 5 minutes or less to address each), and 3) it's unlikely the low paid workers leaving these reviews got much training or hands on time with the product they are supporting.
I'm absolutely not at all trying to shift blame away from Bethesda, rather trying to keep it from all falling on the shoulders of the support workers that likely had little to no power to actually provide better responses.

I liked the game at first. The FC and UC faction missions are fairly interesting. Nothing stellar but worth doing IMO. The main mission is somewhat meh. Not terrible but meh. Exploration is where the game falls apart. Wondering the world in Skyrim or Fallout 4 is visually impressive or at the very least, it's s not just a dance of menus. I know people joke and meme about the settlement building in FO4 but it's such a cumbersome pain in the ass in Starfield. Technical issues were thankfully minimal for me so the "it just works" trope seemed to apply though I never did the corporate missions and I heard those were buggy. As for myself, the most annoying thing I ran into at some point was not being able to dismiss Barrett. Good Lord I was so fed up with that guy. So, I eventually did the NG+ after 100 hours or so but only got into it a few hours. At that point, CP2077 2.0 and Phantom Liberty came out and I was only too happy to put Starfield down for a while. Wait and see on updates, patches and mods.

  • @skulcow591
    @skulcow591 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Seeing the same response from other players on how you feel about the game is simple confirmation bias. Humans subconsciously have this bias in almost every aspect of life. Normally bias can be seen as bad, except under the circumstances where the topic at hand(starfield) is 100% subjective through personal experience. The problem for starfield is that almost all of the bad reviews hit with the same vibe that almost every player can atleast relate to a few of the points made.

  • @lordanthrax2417
    @lordanthrax2417 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

The reply is not made to bring the reviewer back to the game. It is made to convince the person that reads the bad review to play/buy the game.
The bad review sparks the idea inside the reader that you should not play/buy the game and THAT is what harms bethesda. So they reply and put as much advertisement as possible in the text to reverse the "don't play/buy the game"-spark into "play/buy the game!"-spark.
    The are extremely manipulative!
They did something similar in the "sixteen times the detail"-speech.
By the way: why should you play a bad game for hundreds of hours, hoping that it will be eventually becoming good when you can play so many other games that are good from the beginning? Why should you give your money to someone who lies to you and makes fun of you publicly? My only conclusion is to NOT BUY GAMES FROM BETHESDA!

IMHO starfields gameplay isn't bad and the visuals are okay (although the performance of the game is horrible compared to something old like cyberpunk and it's graphics). The biggest problem for me is the story and the world building. How they managed to create somthing so dry and completely "sterile" is beyond me, it's almost like they spent the whole time making procedural generation and forgot to accually add anything of substance. The whole story feel like it was just tacked on as an after thought.

Okay, so this might sound crazy, but...what if Bethesda is _right?_ What if people really _are_ playing it wrong? What if the reason that Starfield feels so flat is because it wasn't supposed to be played as a single run? Maybe it was made with the expectation that players will do what players of Bethesda RPGs usually do, and play multiple characters, multiple builds, multiple runs and different routes, analysing the lore from a multitude of different angles. The five year plan would certainly support the idea of a game that is intended to be a long-term time investment.

As for Customer Support, it's role should be restricted to technical support, otherwise thank people for their feedback and say nothing further. Todays games generally don't deliver until you've invested in them twice and bought at least one DLC pack, maybe Starfield can't be rescued, the DLC on the horizon could just be more insignificant rubbish. No matter how bad the upcoming offering is someone will buy it.

Starfield has the potential, but sadly does not live up to it. That Bethesda defends their product by disparaging the players is also quite sad. Fallout 4 is evidence it can be done, but in this instance Bethesda really missed the mark.

While technically Starfield released in a (somewhat) better state than Cyberpunk on launch, Starfield did this by way of a Dark Bargain, sacrificing its soul in the process. Never in my entire life has a video game been so offensively boring. It's Skyrim with guns... in space, but if Skyrim was just 1000x 8x8km flat, featureless cells gated behind a fast travel system, with a thin layer of story smeared over it like a penny pincher making their kids lunch sandwiches for school.
Starfield lacks a soul, and is fucking boring as a result.

This game as is, meaning Bethesda may come out with some patches or try to make a big hype to their creation engine tool kit and mod space(Skyrim already have it) , but not in a 100 years they will ever replace or modify the content already has. They may add more missions in a form of a DLC, but I can see it's gonna be $29.99, if not more. I'm done with it, moved passed with it, it was a waste of $100 pre-purchase. It's written down as a loss.

Judging the copypasted responsed begging people to make new characters with different backgrounds + shifting the release date right next to BG3 it is clear Bethesda tried to drain as much sales as it could from Larian. Then Larian released their game earlier to avoid the overlap from Starfield. No one from either team will admit this but it's pretty telling what Bethesda was trying to do.

I really want the ability to auto land on other planets. Even if that involves a single slightly longer loading screen or going through the animation of the ship being scanned or potentially coming up with a “landing blocked enemy detected” don’t make me travel to the landing spot on a planet only to arrive in orbit and redundantly choose my landing spot again

  • @SeemoreMeow
    @SeemoreMeow 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Starfield was impossible from the Start.
    POI rework
The problem with Starfield was the problem with Mass Effect 1. All the levels all the separated zones are all the same. The points of I terest are all similar caves etc. That is the games first problem.
    Space rework
In order to understand how bad it was, there was no traveling in the space, so in order to fix it, (to focus on two star systems to adapt to the scale of the rest) each star system would be an open world map. Millions of kilometers of free space to adapt your ship to with speed and engine upgrades and installments. It should be open space and Bethesda should study Rockstar games more closely. (The details, like when you enter orbit you'd have to pull up the joy stick or how wild the burning re entry is). Because the different zones did not work so well, Bethesda might as well redesign the game with 4 or so solar systems in mind, no auto landing but manual landing like No Mans Sky.
    Dense quests:
Let's say I wanted the Pirates to make a big deal in the game, due to the games size as a writer and designer (if I worked at Bethesda) would have to create and write more than ten pirate Space quests just to adapt as to how much the player is exposed to the concept. Same with how if I wanted players to notice there were indeed robots, dozens of quests involving robots. The Bigger the game the more content you need to pull from. The big challenge is unique experiences rather than a quantity of them so there has to be unique situations each pirate has a quest etc. ( typical Worries of the writing process) Another fun opportunity is micromanaging your settlements population like NPCs can have misc objectives or full quests to indulge.
    Dense planets!
The procedure generation should be THE START of the development of the open world, but devs would have also to add hundreds of POIs. Which would again require for Bethesda to create 500 different VERY different versions of each type of POI. Not just slight variations but like competing and different. Think of the entire open world map of both Fallout 4 and Skyrim combined should be the density of a huge chunk of a planet. There should be a form of River, motor bike as well as hover bikes. Having your own Power armor would be great as well.
    What would be required:
in order to make a game of this size there would be the requirement of MILLIONS of voice lines recorded. And thousands of different variations for the caves, for the cities and even pre made settlements. As well as the density and creativity of the NPCs, each NPC wouuld also be fully interactive and have quests like Skyrim, Millions of spare voice lines are required for the base of this to work and build up from. Not hundreds of thousands but in the double digit MILLIONS. Bethesda would have to create a population of hundreds of BILLIONS of NPCs. The biggest requirement would be THOUSANDS of full time employees.
As for what Bethesda wanted is not possible. The "saving throw" instead would be the number of fun and / dangerous quests all hand crafted. Keep the separation of spaces into bubbles keep Starfield as it is and the only way to save it are to populate each planet with Billions of NPCs and THOUSANDS of POIs. Each planet should have about 500 unique and awesome "Skyrim" "Oblivion" in quality quests.

@@LawlessNate Such a dumb mindset to have. If they engage in a behavior your like (creating a good game) you aren't gonna reward them for it despite having the capacity to.
The arguably ethical reasons to pirate something are:
      1. You want to demo the game before you buy and are worried about things getting funky with Steam's Refund Policy.
      2. You don't have the money for the game at the current moment, but as you enjoy the experience you will advertise it with word of mouth until the day you can afford it.
      3. You want a preserved version of the game on a hard drive or server somewhere in case someone else wants to pirate/verify something.
If they make a bad game, don't play or buy it. If they monetize it in a scummy way don't play or buy it. If they make a good game with fair monetization (that appeals to your tastes), then reward them to the best of your abilities. What does pirating accomplish in this situation?

And people wonder why I stopped giving Bethesda my money after Skyrim.
Bethesda hasn't been competent at game design or public relations in over a decade- and it's infuriating that, at one point, Emil Pagliarulo had an actual positive reputation; he used to remarkably good at creating fun gameplay sandboxes, such as Life of the Party, a wondrous level in Thief 2. Now, we all associate Bethesda with middling-at-best, appalling-at-worst game quality and general failures to treat their customers with anything resembling respect.
