    The only real knock I've had on Riley was the fact that he was handed a conference championship program, and his teams appeared to decline the further the program moved away from the Stoops era. I feel like that gets ignored a lot when discussing him. He's still young, though, and that's why I was so excited to see him go to USC. If he gets them back to Caroll or McKay era success, then i'll have him right up there at the top.

    Lifelong OU fan here. Can't speak for the whole fan base but for me it wasn't that he left OU it was how he left. If the USC job is a better fit for him and his family so be it. But sneaking off in the middle of the night, taking recruits, and recruiting on OU's dime? Kind of sketchy.

    ironically Brock Vandergriff was his first choice. When brick decommitted and went to GA, LR scrambled to get Caleb Williams. The only QB he recruited that was his #1 choice was Spencer Rattler. Food for thought.

    Josh, I am a USC alum and think your take is pretty much spot on. I think LR has already been making changes. I think our differences stem from you being HQ'd in Nashville with a national view and I know So. Calif. and intimately see what is happening with Trojans football. I really don't know about other teams. That said, 2 things about last year. 1) Helton and staff were extremely lazy and had ruined relationships with pretty much every good HS in the area (Mater Dei, St. John Bosco, etc.). 2) Helton was known to run VERY easy practices without little to no consequences for practicing poorly. 3) Because of items 1 and 2, the Trojans didn't have talent and weren't tough. 4) Reilly only had time to fix so much. He made the decision to get the offense as good as possible and use any available time to build the D. SC's defense played reasonably well early on until injuries piled up. By the last 2 games, the Trojans D was banged up and degraded. 4) This year LR has made the D his primary focus and brought in very good talent. 5) As any really good coach does, the first year's team's rules & policies were stronger than the previous regime's but this year's is much tougher. Reilly is plainly ratcheting up the toughness. 6) Next year will really see a jump in recruiting because of the team playing better and also the repairs that LR & staff are performing.

    Riley was trying to recruit players to USC while he was still Coach at Oklahoma. Months before he quit OU. He was caught red handed. Lincoln Riley is the best offensive mind in the country and if any QB is looking to make it to the NFL Lincoln is the guy. Dude has gotten almost every starting quarterback he’s had to the league other than Rattler

    • @TheBenzwanger
      @TheBenzwanger ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And Rattler was his very first highschool pick up and project that wasn't an experienced transfer. That failed miserably. Williams is just a generational talent. USC loses 6 games last season with any other QB. And it's starting to look like Nelson isn't what everyone thought he was. And that's right when they're stepping into the BIG 10. Riley better learn how to get physical REAL QUICK. It's flat out embarrassing that guy lead a top 3 Blue Blood program and just gets pushed around by everybody. Just wait until you have to deal with 5 years worth of constant shootouts, Riley gonna stress y'all the hell out. You will never feel like you control the game no matter how many points you're up. He leads the nation in letting teams come back and beat him.

    • @tkjaer21

      The problem with this theory is that Jalen did not throw much at OU and mainly ran the ball. Sure, he made a living on the 7-12 in and out routs, but other than that, he was a running QB. Lincoln did not know what to do with him. I would even say that Jalen had the skills all along and that Lincoln did not develop him, his dad and the NFL did.

    LR is a West Texas Spread offense guy, score 50-60 points a game and hope the clock runs out on the opposing team. He puts all his efforts at recruiting the best QBs and WRs in the nation, and he doesn't give a damn about defense. That was good enough to win the Big 12 and might be enough to win the PAC 12 which he has yet to do, but it won't win a Big 10 title and it won't win a playoff game against the an SEC team.

Physicality is definitely missing from his culture. He can preach it but if he himself isnt naturally physical it doesn't work, players dont believe it. Thats why his teams get worked over by the Utahs and Kansas States of the world and then gets absolutely curbstomped by huge physical SEC teams. His players literally just bounce off them. His S&C program and philosophy HAS to change completely if he wishes to go toe to toe with the SEC. But then again he never played college football, leach had to convince him to give it up and coach. I would like to see Lincoln actually have to coach. He is in fact over-rated. Put him in a program like Kansas or Stanford and see if it really is him. He is just running the same schemes that most high schools use today. He has been handed top offensive talent since he started as the head of Oklahoma. When he actually had to develop a player like Spencer Rattler, he bailed on him and it showed. Same with Caleb Williams first year at Oklahoma. Caleb and the surrounding roster won those games at Texas for example. The rest of the big 12 figured out how to stop his schemes. Look what Kansas, Iowa State and Kansas State did to his offense his last two years at Oklahoma.
