Incredible. The one thing i like most about your videos is that you show the raw image before you show the final image. It does two things. First, it shows the importance of getting it right in camera when you take the shot. Second, it shows off the subtlety and nuance of your post-processing. You prove you don't have to go over the top with processing to have great images.
Great trip and shots. Other places you might like could be "The Garden Route", which has beautiful forests and coast, some of the Cape mountains like Baviaanskloof or mountains around Oudshoorn, and remote desert areas like Richtersveld.
I have followed both you & Alex on social media for a number of years and to see you on a trip together was great. What an amazing location & I look foreward to seeing a book from AN on the Drakensberg sometime in the future. Must say in the week you were on this hike it looked you had some amazing conditions and this shows in the images you have presented us. One of the things I love about your work Adam is your processing is always to a minimun but always with a maximum effect - no doubt due to your skills in the field I would say. Great watch as always. atb Al
Though many have spoken to this, I too, appreciate the raw file image prior to your edit. You do justice to the rendering of light, shadow and colour without over exaggerating and your cropping is well chosen. Thank you, Adam, for sharing such inspirational beauty.
As always really gorgeous photos. I also appreciate your "hiking/camping" to give us the views. While I can get around pretty well still at 76, my acrophobia limits what I can do at heights. My time in the military cured me of any desire to do camping except at the most civilized of areas. So, you doing all the hard work and showing us the results, is really great.
Absolutely stunning places!!! At some point one expects to see a dinosaur or a flaming dragon pop up, such is the magic of the place... I had never heard of it, thanks for showing us. It goes without saying that the photos are extraordinary !!!
One of the things I love about your videos is seeing the raw images and then guessing how you're going to edit them. Bring up this or accentuate that, but often it is in how you crop them that is the most surprising and delightful. Thank you
I thought I recognised that voice! I joined Alex Nail for his Great Wilderness Trek in the Scottish West Highlands May 2021. It was an amazing 5 days and he knows his stuff both in photography and hiking. Lucky you to go with him to the Drakensburg. Its on my bucket list ;-)
Another stunning location/video. I too like to see the raw file, then your edited photo. As always Adam, you have produced some stunning photo's from your trip. Keep up the good work.
As usual, a stellar video and photographs of a place that I've never heard of! Such loveliness, I can't even find the right words... But when I watched this, my heart rate really slowed down, it was mesmerizing.
Absolutely fantastic series Adam thank you very much for sharing your awesome journey of such a beautiful place on our planet really enjoyed Namibia but the Drakensberg was epic. And as always all photos were absolutely stunning
Adam, this was a great video, the music choice was outstanding and fit the foggy, cloudy mood so well. The images were very nice, and some of the cliff edge photos triggered my vertigo so I had to hold on to my chair so I would not tip over. I am glad you did not mute the greens in the photos, seems like so many people are doing that now, and for me if it is green it should stay so in most photos but maybe that is just me.
Hats off to you Adam for carrying your full kit up there. Appreciate the effort to record the walk and then give us some lovely images along the way. The Drakensberg Mountains do look extraordinary, but not always the easiest place to photograph. As you say it is hard to give scale to your images in such a place. Personally, I would have been tempted to shoot monochrome more than colour in this environment particularly when you have a lot of mist and cloud and can take advantage of the strong contrast. Just as an aside, I noticed pretty much everyone except the guides were using walking poles. This must be northern hemisphere thing. I know they are said to have lots of benefits, but in my experience they are more a hindrance than a help in anything but open country. They just get in the way. If I take a pole, I take one only which can be useful on steep descents or in crossing fast flowing streams. But when you are scrambling up or down steep rocky gradients or moving through scrubby or thickly wooded terrain you generally want both hands free, not having to manage two poles. So I don't quite understand this two walking poles thing except in favourable situations.
If you want to carry heavy loads and still have your original knees when you reach 60 use poles. Poles are like tripods, a pain in the ass in some spots but a godsend in other situations such as going up and down hills. Scrambling up or down rocks just put them away, it's not a big deal.
@@QuietLightPhoto I guess it is horses for courses and yes, if you have knee troubles I am sure they help. And I grant you a pole or stick is helpful on long slippery or uneven descents or as I say crossing fast moving streams, but this is more for balance. I am 62 and fortunately my knees are fine. I am more used to rougher and less open terrain where you want your hands to be free. Putting poles away means hitching them to the side of your backpack and you definitely don't want to do this if you are moving through thick undergrowth or vegetation. It is hell because they constantly get caught on things.
Adam, what can I say! Incredible trip, the photos have bee just stunning. I. Believe the word is Ethereal. WOW, thanks for taking us along. Stunning work as usual!!!
Looks like a gorgeous area. Wow, thanks for sharing from your trip through Africa, I haven’t been to that part of Africa, but really want to visit it sometime.
What a bunch of gorgeous shots. Your keen eye for a composition, great anticipation for light, careful editing style and GFX 100s detail makes for some incredible wallhangers!
Great images Adam I am learning more from watching your adventures, constantly looking at your settings more the depth of field for each image and getting more of an understanding as to adapt my outlook on the image in front of me, thanks and have a save trip home.
Amazing trip! So lovely to see this part of the world. I'm glad you took images, like the first one, even when you thought the conditions might not be 'perfect' because they are perfect memories, and that is priceless.
Everything about this video is spectacular. Gorgeous scenery and even the B roll is inspiring. The flow is excellent, and the images are amazing. I really appreciate how you show the RAW with settings followed by the edit. Thank you for the inspiration.
I’ve enjoyed your visit to the Barrier of Spears. Certainly reminds of my times there and stokes the desire to return. You really should go in the fall- you’ll get to drag your knackered self out of the tent at 3:30am instead of sleeping in. 😀 I very much like your compositions and post work.
WOW, truly breathtaking and inspirational photos. It's photographers like you, Mr Gibbs, who spur me on to actually get out and shoot photos and try to improve. When I see photos like these, I know I need to be more active in getting off my a*** and doing the thing rather than just observing and absorbing and aspiring. I may never get to these locations but I can take inspiration from works like these. Thanks for that
Thank you for this adventure in your landscape photography, this is absolutely beautiful in so many ways. Your use of the light as a main element in your pictures is flawless. Looking forward to your next video as always..😊
Great to see one of my favourite photographers experiencing the splendour of the Drakensberg. It's such an incredible, awe-inspiring part of South Africa. Lovely shots Adam!! 🙏
Wow, Adam! What a year it has already been. First Spain, then Namibia, and now Drakensberg. I hope you don't have a cat back home because if you do he/she would be very lonely. Great pictures by the way.
That shot at 12:54 Jeez!
Cheers mate!
I feel like one who is in awe of amazing fireworks… all I can say is “Oooh!” and “Aaah!”
You have certainly taken some beautiful photographs on this trip. I also suspect you have also many lifetime memories also. Thank you for sharing.

What an incredible place. You’re living my (and many others’) dream, Adam. I sure hope you appreciate that. Thanks for this lovely video.
It's always wonderful to be in the mountains with such light and atmosphere, thanks for sharing and letting us enjoy some of it with you.

Absolutely wonderful. Every second of the series was great you’ve got some stunning images. Also thanks for taking us along

The Raw file reveal is super helpful Adam. The difference between the file is a great way to learn.
Enough world class images just in this one video for a new book or zine. Simply fantastic dear sir.
As always really gorgeous photos. I also appreciate your "hiking/camping" to give us the views. While I can get around pretty well still at 76, my acrophobia limits what I can do at heights. Best photo at the 7:30 min mark, Adam, great morning shot, just after a coffee I bet !
Great series buddy! Some gorgeous shots, especially loved the pastel shots of the distant layers
Stunning. Especially that image at ~16:06! Love the whole video, and the series from Namibia and S Africa
Fantastic images. Appreciate the extra work to film during these hikes to bring us along.
Thanks for all your hard work. Appreciate you including your camera settings too. Had to watch twice.
Wow what a spectacularly beautiful trip. Excellent images!
Beautiful high quality images. They show so much depth that it sometimes seemed as though I was right there standing on the cliffs.
Another stunning location/video. I too like to see the raw file, then your edited photo. As always Adam, you have produced some stunning photo's from your trip. Keep up the good work.
Very nice. I always appreciate showing raw files before showing the final edit.
Just stunning light and landscapes Adam. Wow.
As usual, a stellar video and photographs of a place that I've never heard of! Such loveliness, I can't even find the right words... But when I watched this, my heart rate really slowed down, it was mesmerizing.
Wow - what an adventure, what a landscape - proper Lost World stuff - and beautifully photographed!
Thank you!
Lots of "porfolio shots" and amazing places!
Absolutely fantastic series Adam thank you very much for sharing your awesome journey of such a beautiful place on our planet really enjoyed Namibia but the Drakensberg was epic. And as always all photos were absolutely stunning
those telephoto shots are great!
Adam, I think this is your most beautiful video yet. Great work and thanks!
