This was Slade at their best how good was Noddy Holder as the front man said to be the loudest voice in rock and roll even by today's standards they just dont compare. Thanks Slade for the great music and times i had the opportunity to live in as a youth.
It's also important to note, just how hard Dave, Jim and The Banging Man, worked on stage. Definitely a four piece, rather than a lead singer and his backing band.
Sorry guys, but this is the definitive version os this song. So much feeling, the guitars and vocals, the bass line, all the punch behind those drums. Fuck, its perfect
Can't say I agree, as the vocal quality is obviously superior, but the tempo and mood is so well done by TLS. John Sebastian nailed in at Woodstock so I'm going with that version as my #1.
It's the track from Slade Alive! I had no idea the gigs for the album had been filmed. I'd love to see the rest of it. One of the best live albums ever recorded.

America was late catching on to any great English music back in the day I remember buying this LP in the import section of Rolling Stones records and tapes here in Chicago you would have to search the Imports to get releases from Slade sweet Roxy Music Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel and so on America was too busy trying to prop up acts like Bruce Springsteen I remember when Rory Gallagher put out against the grain I think it was the same year that Bruce Springsteen put out his first LP but you heard nothing about Rory Gallagher's LP against the grain but America was late on music but this is the best version of this song I ever heard it still says chills up and down my spine every time I hear it
I was 12 yrs old when I got 'Slade Alive' as my 1st record. This track made the hairs on the back of my neck tingle. I took up the bass guitar because of this album. I am now 60 yrs old and I still think this is one of the best tracks ever recorded, so: GO! ..and beat your crazy head against the sky, try to see beyond the houses in your eyes, it's OK to shoot the moon!
They were/are THE best.Every member of Slade were such great musicians and with Noddy's voice ,they were one of the many awesome bands to come out of England. Sounds just as amazing today as it did (can you believe) 47 years ago!
My goosepimples have goosepimples, feck me, takes make right back to the best times in the 70s, love it, love the tears flowing, sing it loud and proud guys
I saw these at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester. They sang this just so, it was beyond awesome. .... Their support acts were Thin Lizzy and Suzi Quattro... Happy times 💚
Spent 40 years wondering what the actual fuck this gig looked like. Alive is still one of my favourites, Hadn't realised Dave sort of hung around until required to be immense.
Slade ! the 70's. Life just does not get better than that. & I should know, I lived it,. And wouldn't it be great for me to taste that era just one more time before I toddle off.
I was 14 when the Slade Alive album came out. My favorite song on the album by far & this seriously craps on every other version! :) 1st concert i ever saw was Billy Thorpe & The Aztecs live at Sydney Town Hall in 71 or early '72. Still love therse early 790's songs
Oh fuck, they played the Horden and I missed it! Please tell me it was 76 when I was out of the country. Otherwise I'm in for a long period of slamming my forehead yelling "You bloody idiot". 😉
@@werriboy55 I think I accidentally deleted my first reply. Def not 76. Early 73 or more likely early 74 as I recall being 13 at the time. Sorry about your forehead. :)
Nice job on the overdubbing the sound off the original SLADE ALIVE Album ..... Slade is the sound of my teenage growing youthfulness ... the best band of the 70's by far .... :D (Y)
This is the epic times of rock when it made real the spoken words as it did to many in the past whom dedicated life as it was intended to become for themselves Rock On Noddy!
David Graham I saw Slade at the Felt Forum, Madison Square Garden , NY in 1973 , opening act , a band I thought sucked , Aerosmith, guess I was wrong!!! Loved hearing Jim Lea singing When the Lights are Out, great memory
@@guydertinger5676 Funny, I saw Deep Purple at the Felt Forum, right after they put out Who Do We Think We Are?, which they played no songs from that album in the concert. It was the softest rock concert I ever heard. Read the band had problems around that time, maybe with Gillian. Anyway, saw Slade twice, the loudest band both times I ever heard. Second loudest, Rod Stewart, at New Haven Colosseum. Maybe I saw Slade there, too. I think the other time was in Radio City Music Hall in NYC.
Fortunate to hear Slade in Long Beach in 1972. Humble Pie and Boz Scaggs on the bill. Loving Spoonfield song elevated that evening by Slade. If ever there was a song that needed a rock edge...this was it.
Finally and in the end: The ultimate most OUTstanding voice in the whole R&R aera! Even there are/had been Gary Holton(!!), Roger Chapman, Steve Marriott, Bon Scott, Brian Johnson, Rod and Michael Des Barres. And today? "Ha"!
For me, this is the best rendition of John Sebastion's, Darling Be Home Soon. I'm not a fan of Sebastion, but he wrote one hell of a song when he wrote this one. However, it took Slade to turn a very good song into something amazing and great. Speaking of great, there are, so far, only four live recordings that have been released that I would deem great, and, they are: Slade: Slade Alive, Frank Sinatra: Sinatra At The Sands, Lou Reed: Rock And Roll Animal, and Ella Fitzgerald, Ella In Rome: The Birthday Concert. Disclaimer: Titles subject to change. Titles included are my opinions, but only my opinions really matter. Lol.
Saw then many times in the 70s. One at Top Rank in Brighton. Supported by Thin Lizzy who had just released Whiskey in the Jar and als by Suzi Quattro. And at the Palladium where it felt like the balcony as actually moving! Brilliant band live.
Dave Hill was a pretty cool guitar player, everything always fits but it's not what you expect. He never wanted it to be the guitar show, and the fact that he ever got up on stage with that haircut shows he never took himself too seriously 🤣
Had the distinct pleasure of seeing Slade live in San Bernardino, California and then, when I moved to Japan, our best friend was from Wolverhampton and absolutely knew of Slade. I can only remember Noddy Holder's name but what a great band!
This music goes way back it brings back so many awesome memories ...
What a great underrated band Slade was

... I still listen to them today
Noddy Holder one of the greatest male vocalists ever to draw breath.
Definitely underrated, a true great,I've only heard him toddling just now, wow!
There's real depth and soul, Joe Cocker does spring to mind.. Great cover Noddy, I want cupasoup!!!!
Still listening matey,!!!
Can I vote for Xmas no.1.?
@@steevecunt5371 Doesn't sound like Joe Cocker. Noddy sounds as if he has swallowed a grater.
Slade most certainly brought this song alive, amazing version I wouldn't change it for the world...

Sorry guys, but this is the definitive version os this song. So much feeling, the guitars and vocals, the bass line, all the punch behind those drums. Fuck, its perfect
Have you heard the Tedeschi Trucks Band's version?
I agree. I'm a big Lovin' Spoonful fan but no version competes with Slade's.
Absolutely, this version has never lost it's sting !
Agreed!!! 100%

Just the best in the world, been my favorite song by my favorite band since 1972.
Slade Alive! was one of the first albums we shared with my elder bother.
Slade never ends, they are in our minds forever, bringing happiness all long time.
From a whisper to a rock crescendo in one breath.
