The Ring subscriptions have gone up by 42% here in the UK, 2 years ago, they were £24.99, last year £34.99, this year coming £49.99 - no way am I paying that increase!
@@FieldGuidetoDIY blink cameras can save locally to a memory stick in the sync module device as I have a couple of cameras already so thinking of going with Blink doorbell instead
The problem with blink is that the app takes sooo long to open, it makes it useless when someone rings the doorbell, by the time you open the app they're gone. No wonder that have a 2 star review on the app/play store I'll be switching to ring soon
I have the same experience. Yesterday, my son rang the bell and was outside over 1 min. I was not notified at all. I got the video notification 10 mins later after I opened the app.
I have the ring doorbell and don’t like that I miss motion alert at times and that’s after I enhance my settings. My son has blink with the sync module. He bought on sale as a package deal on Amazon for $56 so he didn’t pay extra for the module as you mentioned. He loves it and I didn’t see a huge difference in the camera quality from my Ring. I’m thinking about switching to Blink due to the fact Ring just increased their annual subscription to $50 just to save videos etc. Blink’s sync module does this and there’s no subscription with it. Also the battery life is awful with Ring. It’s chargeable but doesn’t last long. And you have to change certain settings just to save battery life. Blink uses AA batteries but they last longer than Ring’s chargeable battery.
So did you have the trouble we going through with Ring, Where the motion detection goes off all day long, when it's really just a car driving past, too the point that there are times it will not pick up people?
I have two blink outdoor camera cameras, and blink doorbell. I have the Blink subscription plan, for $10 a month, that covers all three cameras. Had it for going on three years, has worked great. Just wish the cameras had a clearer picture, they can't even read a license plate clearly
@@FieldGuidetoDIY ring will trickle charge the battery. I've had my ring doorbell bell for like 5 years now. I did some research because I was curious why I didn't need a battery replacement in so long
when installing ring did you have to add a jumper cable to the chime? I've seen people doing that with blink, but i haven't had to do that. my doorbell with blink worked fine without the use of jumpers
I have read reviews that, altho Blink does have the "Store Videos Locally" feature (at an extra one-time purchase of a separate device), it also constantly tries to Up-Sell you to the Subscription Cloud service. The reviewer took off a point because he thought that was annoying. Has anybody else had this experience, and felt it was annoying?
Ive just put new lithium batteries in my blink doorbell and they only lasted two days - trying to find out why - the original batteries had lasted about 7 months.
@@FieldGuidetoDIY thanks for your reply. It’s always been set to motion too but I noticed it had reverted back to full view so was recording everything. Restricted it now and put new batteries in again today so will see what happens. 🤞
@@Eli-ro3dnhow do you like it ? what change did you see imare the battery’s lasting longer and how long do they last ? does it work everytime someone is in view of the camera lens ?
@@CouponKing-x8w I suspect the previous new batteries I put in were a duff set as Ive put new ones in not even the recommended lithium ones. only records when movement is nearer to my door so its all working well again. These batteries been in a month now with no issues.
My wired Eufy dual lens doorbell has been nothing but a nightmare. Looking for something more reliable. I am grandfathered in to the $0 blink membership.
@@FieldGuidetoDIY - yep. I bought a few at $29.99 on prime day and use them as regular cameras on my fence gates, etc. Since they are not on sale right now, I took one from my carport for my front door. I can't say enough negative things about the Eufy. Actually had two different ones. Both had issues.
I believe if you want long-term storage, you're gonna have to pay for that. We just delete our footage to keep it below the threshold and it deletes the old stuff.
Blink is horrible it only works when someone pushes the button and it only shows you a blink of time 😂it’s hard to have multiple users using the app and you can not play back

No way! I also looked into saving locally but since neither the Ring nor the Blink get a local IP, that seemed prohibitive.

Thanks for sharing, Tim. Not my experience. I am not sure what the difference would be.
Call customer service and they will send you another from what I’ve read on Amazon reviews

It has to do with your internet connection and how far they are from your router or if you have a mesh system.

I just bought a ring doorbell and I am thinking of taking it back to the shop and changing to blink
My sentiments exactly!
I use a home link and thumb drive to store my videos locally so I don’t need to pay for a blink subscription.
There ya go!
You saved my money, thank you!
Absolutely! Thank you for watching!
Ok... I need to say I was expecting something more interesting than "oh, there is a subscription" to make you regret.
Well, the camera quality is comparable and the interface and notification is comparable. I would just rather not pay for a service if I don’t have to.
Blink only lets you use 1 doorbell cam without the subscription. Your clips will be blank!
Thank you for pointing that out. I didn’t know that.
the main downside on Blink for me is that it cannot be accessed from PC
That would be great. Blink used to have a Roku app that you could watch on the big screen. I wish they would bring that back.
I agree 100% do not buy Ring low battery life
I appreciate you sharing.
Not if you have it wired
The wiring only connects the button to the door chime. It doesn’t power the camera.

I have not experienced that. I will have to check that out.
I was told blink doorbell has 3 dollar a month fee or $10 a month with unlimited devices
