Finally it´s here. As promised I will talk a little about composition in this video.
Also, are you struggeling to start? What journal to use? In this video we will start a new art journal using an old book. I will guide you through the first steps and then we are playing with acrylics paints. You can even see me fixing a part of the spread that I don´t like.

thank you so much for your clear explanation of tools/products etc. I was watching other videos (in an effort to start somewhere myself with art journaling in this style of scrapping/painting) but feeling so lost util I found this episode. I’m only 29 min in and have learned so much I feel like I can already start and am excited to grab all those old books I’ve been hanging on to for decades KNOWING there’s a purpose!

Best and most informative beginners' video I've watched - it was soooo helpful to see the process from start to finish; to get the useful tips on using gesso; and to get some insight into composition. Ok, my first attempt is not great, but from your video, I can actually see where I have 'gone wrong' and how to make it better in future. Thanks so much.

This was the most fabulous video. It taught me so much. I loved it! I enjoyed watching your thought process as the page progressed. It was kinda funny though, when you decided to add the orange neocolor II I was like “NOOOOOOOOOOO, DON’T DO IT!” Then you did it, and it looked so wonderfully fabulous. I wanted to start an art journal this year and it's January 28 and I haven't started. I wanted to use a book from the thrift store, but none of them lie flat. Do you know how to get a used book to lie flat? I may have to make one.
I loved seeing your journals and found the information about composition very helpful. Thank you so much! I would love to see more videos like this! Also, I always come away with such a sense of peace when I watch your videos! What a wonderful gift!
Thank you so much 💗 it’s almost impossible to get bind books to lie flat. The only option is to make one with book binding technique like the two I show in the beginning of the video (paper bag albumin and the one with mixed media paper) those you can flip and distribute the pages so you get same number of pages on each side and lie flat. Doesn’t matter if it’s the first page or last or in the middle. Then just go for it, try different techniques, color combinations and art supplies. You may not be happy about every page you make but you will learn so much. Have fun🌸🤗

I like the simplicity and lightness of the page. Some journal pages are layers and layers, which seems to loose something. The original is completely hidden.

I’d heard about the Rule of Thirds before (good explanation, by the way) but I’d never before heard anyone discuss the value of a diagonal composition for balance. Very helpful. Thank you so much. Wow I’ve been struggling so much. I paint and spray and it’s a big mess. This was like being in an art class and I gained valuable information Thank you! I think I need to get a few colors together like you did and try some of your techniques. Where did you get your stash of butterflies and animals?
Printed images from internet. Keep you art practice going, you learn even from the mess making. I have made a lot of ugly messes 😅. Thank you for the feedback 💗

Where do you get the images from? From magazines or you buy them somewhere?

Tack 🙏 Jag köper på olika svenska webbutiker var det är billigast och har det jag vill ha, testat lite olika gesso o gel medium. Penstore, ibwahlström, panduro, skapamer. Det finns fler som jag inte kommer på just nu.
I thought mixed media paper was meant to take paint. are u just covering your journal because its just plain paper? Or wait are u doing art journal in an old book?
If you work in a mixed media book with watercolor paper it no problem but as you suggested I’m working in an ordinary old book and the papers are not meant for painting especially if you are using watercolor/sprays. The paper is to thin and you risk it tearing. Probably acrylic paint would work without gesso but I usually cover the paper anyway as I never know what I will add in the end.
