- Here we have Graham Blackledge demonstrating & reviewing the Kawai CA701 digital piano.
This replaces the Kawai CA79 an it is a massive improvement. The Grand Feel III key action with wooden keys, counter weights and grip on the keys is very responsive with a lovely fast dynamic feel. The 110w 6 speaker system and new samples sound absolutely fantastic with nice reverb effects and more! The pedals react like a grand piano when you use piano sounds and do other functions like fast and slow tremolo when you use organ sounds. The cabinet design looks beautiful with a nice lid and curved edging with traditional legs. The Kawai CA-701 looks good, has a great key feel and sounds amazing. I think this piano is excellent value for money.

You did a fantastic job of demonstrating the piano, it sounds great. My problem is, as a Classical Amateur Piano Hobbyist, I've always "played" my pianos before I purchased them, like when I purchased my Steinway Model O acoustic Grand piano. As beautiful as this piano sounds, I still don't know if it's the piano for me before I actually PLAY it. And all the music shops in my city want you to purchase the instrument THEN you can come in a play it before we deliver it. You can't say no I don't like it and ask for your money back - it's a used piano and there is a hugh Re-stocking fee. My question is this: is the Kawai CA701 have built-in electronics (or a system) to make the piano sound way you want it to sound - which of course is - sound exactly like Steinway Model O acoustic grand piano, which, sadly, I longer have room for. And would the Kawai CA901 come closer to what I want. But you see I have to take your word for it, which is great I believe everything you say, but I want to play the instrument "before" I purchase it. And you can't do that with DIGITAL pianos. Extrapolating that explanation means that all DIGITAL pianos sound the same. Thank you again, maybe I'm being too picky.
Really they won’t let you try it before buying?? That’s a crime! In Italy where I live trying the instrument before you buy it is the standard

great video and great first impression of the CA 701.
Currently I am between the decision to purchase the CA 99 or CA 701. Currently, both models are priced reletiv close to each other. Therefore, my question, which of the two models at the current same price can offer more here?
Do you think the newly installed speaker system in the 701 and the new Pinao samples outweigh the sound of the hybrid technology of the CA 99? Or does the CA 99 still have the edge due to its hybrid technology?
A brief assessment would be great. Have you already made a direct comparison of the CA 701 and the CA 99 and can you share your experience here?

I think the CA701 has a faster action and the sound is more clear too with the new samples and speaker system it offers. The CA901 will be the direct replacement for the CA99 and I expect this to be amazing when it arrives. Kindest regards Graham

Yes, it has a special material to make a nice grip on the keys. All the best Graham
How would this compare to the new Roland LX5?
They both have a compltely different sound and key action. It would be a personal preference decision. Kindest regards Graham

Response from my piano dealer: The keyboard is the same as the CA79, but there is a new, higher-quality piano sample and a completely newly developed speaker system. It can therefore happen that some players have the feeling that the sound responds faster and more delicately and that this has something to do with the keyboard.

Its nothing like it. Its way more responsive and the sound it much better too. The response time is much faster with the counterweight system in it. It feels much easier to play to me and an enjoyable experience. Kindest regards Graham

But if the touch feels lighter it might be not postive when you play an acoustic. Can this affect a performance when playing on an acoustic?
The counterweights make the action faster, particularly for 'repeating notes', if anything this piano feels much more like a high quality grand piano now and the action is a vast improvement. Kindest regards Graham

@@RimmersMusicVideo Does Kawai tell you what the specific differences between CA79 and CA701 action are? Unfortunately there is no information about it on the Kawai-Website about improvements of the GrandFeel3.
No, they have not stated exactly, you can feel and hear the difference when you play it. What the specification is, is really not relevant to me, its how it plays that matters, and it feels, plays and sounds great... All the best Graham
