Alice Springs business owner calls for government to fix town’s crime crisis

  • Alice Springs business owner Darren Clarke has delivered a desperate plea calling for action to be taken on the crime crisis in remote towns, whether the Voice to Parliament goes ahead or not.
“These little kids that have been neglected … that are sexually abused; the women; the domestic violence in Alice Springs on Indigenous women is absolutely appalling and it is at astronomical rates.
“But it all gets covered up and suppressed. It's not allowed to come out of that hospital, no information is allowed out of that hospital.
“Even the police cover up the domestic violence.
    “No one's doing anything.
“So whether it's Yes or whether it's No, it's time for Australia to change this.”

Darren we are behind you 1000% … , I don’t want a yes vote because that’s a vote for Pearson, Mayor, Reid , and Langton they are not on your side and haven’t been ever, we need a audit into all the money that goes through their hand.
A NO VOTE with Jacinta will bring change to the Alice and the communities that really need it. We as Australians don’t have a problem with that.

No liberal measures will change anything. When a people doesn’t act with the same moral character as is required to maintain civilisation, society cannot function to its full potential and you will always see ills of this kind. Australians will learn when it is too late that their egalitarian character and pathological empathy will be the downfall of their nation.

The weakness in leadership at all levels of government and public service is eyewatering. In the context of the well-known quote that “Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times”, it's clear we are now in the grip of weak men... heading into hard times.

Where is Albo? Where is Noel P? Where is Ray M? They know of this problem in Alice Springs (and elsewhere) and doing nothing. How true, all the issues have been exposed, we don't need a Voice, we need action, including by Aboriginal leaders. Where is the ABC, SBS, Chanel 10 reporting on these issues, they say they care but then don't report truly on the issues and don't hold aboriginal leaders who are there to influence their communities to account.

Throwing good money (your taxes) after bad is ridiculous. We need an audit to find out what is happening to these BILLIONS of dollars which are supposedly ‘closing the gap’.

We travelled through Alice Springs in late July 2023, and we were only in the A.S. 1/2 hour and saw 2 criminal incidents . That was enough for us. we filled up and left . Alb and his government were elected for all Australians, have a total alcohol ban, bring back the credit card to restrict alcohol purchases and a jail sentence & vehicle confiscation for people bringing grog in for Adelaide and Darwin .When the young indigenous children have reportedly been sexually abused by older relatives, the gloves should be off. We met a couple who recently sold their tourism business in Alice Springs they could no longer stand living in AS.

    @MrDaveozau 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

We Said Darren . Do an Audit first up. This has nothing to do with colonisation. It has a lot to do with how the $40 Billion Dollars is being spent. Many residents in remote communities of any race have had to make decisions to move closer to facilities. As Australia has developed over the years many towns have become Ghost towns.
life keeps moving forward, and we all have to accept changers. No excuses, no exceptions. We can’t live in the past. The very issues Darren expressed are the very reasons why a percentage of Aboriginal babies are low birth weight, why Men are in Jail, why they are uneducated , why they don’t get medical help. It’s not because of colonisation. And it’s not lack of funding or Voices. We all hear the Aboriginal Ministers and Activists, they all know the problems. These problems are not new. Put a Stop to the Gravy train. Deal with what you are paid to do. Start dealing with simple issues . Example, Why are Aboriginal people still having tribe war, why do they trash their communities, why do we still have ads on T.V. Teaching them to wash their faces and blow their noses. Why do a minority find education so difficult.

Well said, Darren. The indigenous activists need to spend their time helping these communities instead of thinking up pretend grievances from 250 years ago. Now everyone is aware of the dire circumstances , the bums on seats need to earn their overinflated wages and actually do something. The voice is never going to do it. It was just an extra gravy train for the indigenous activists who were intending to put themselves in the role of "advisers." People like Darren need to be encouraged to tell their story. Instead of pouring billions into things that aren't working, things must change. I believe police, nurses , teachers and other essential people should be paid a minimum of $100000 over their normal wage to go their for a start. You would then get people happy to go there to set themselves up.Other business's should be given massive incentives to go there, start a business and employ locals. At the moment the money is being totally wasted and there's nothing to show for it. Employment is the key, not handouts.

The problem is nobody, even the guy being interviewed, wants to address the real issue. The criminals are being 100% cast as the victims because they are aboriginal. The "poor children" are the ones driving around in stolen cars, ram raiding, doing break ins. Their parents are at home drunk, doing drugs, abusing and fighting with each other. Authorities won't address the crime because they are s*it scared of a death in custody, allegations of police brutality or putting kids into care "stolen generation". Jail is the only legal recourse Australia uses and we are afraid to use it in these communities because it will mean arresting and locking up at least 50% of the aboriginal population. Authorities are now s*it scared to extend alcohol bans because it's a race based policy, but it did have some success. Treat individuals as individuals, a crime is a crime, a drug abuser is a drug abuser, individuals should be embargoed from purchasing alcohol or legal drugs and individual law breakers must be arrested, this "hands off" mentality does not work.

Tomorrow will be a defining day for this country. The $40 billion aboriginal bludge is over. Get a hair cut. Get a job, just like the rest of us. If you think you are doing it tough, look around you. Everybody is doing it tough. We can do a lot for needy people of all races, including but not limited to aboriginal people, with $40 billion in this great country. Criminals belong in jail. VOTE NO Boycott corporate businesses that sponsored YES.

Pretty simple, just need to do three things:
    1. Double the dole and all forms of welfare, including NDIS, but limit it to six months per decade, for everyone. For those that don't use the dole, this can be cashed in.
    2. Make all labour laws obsolete and let employees negotiate with employers for pay, safety concerns, entitlements etc.
    3. Enable minimum jail sentences for lesser crimes and make the prisoners work for the people they wronged or society while inside rather than have them sit on their asses.
You've just solved, the crime, labour, prison and unemployment problems in the country forever.

If the aboriginal industrial complex and activist Voice advocacy weren't so busy looking after their investment portfolios, land councils, aboriginal enterprises and private companies, they might help out a bit! That said, if individuals are taking ice, they must confront their own demons and conquer that crap! The more we hand out the worse the problem gets -- that's how it works -- dividing the country by race will make it even worse still -- that's how it works!

Don’t worry Albo and the voice will fix this ahah What a joke
This guy is correct you need leadership and see where all the money is going and help these families and not abandon them and hope it will go away.
We are all Australian colour and race does not matter.
The government needs to be accountable and make things happen instead of waisting all this money on this campaign.
Let’s all look after each other.

Once we get rid of the "voice"….we need to be looking at the underlying cancer in our nation that is the "Aboriginal movement"…..we need to get rid of the recently invented "Aboriginal culture" and bin "welcome to country" and the divisive Aboriginal flag. Then we need to look at where the $100s of billions have gone that the "Aboriginal industrial complex" has received from us over the years.
We need one flag, one country and one people.

Give citizens the right to bear arms. That's the greatest deterrent to any criminal. If Australians had the right to bear arms, crime would disappear overnight.
