The sentence diagramming is just a visual tool, correct? But the grammar concept is explained first, and can then be visually interpreted through diagramming, right? What I mean is can I use this curriculum to teach the grammar concepts without using the diagramming portion? Or is it hard to separate out the diagramming verbiage from the grammar lesson? I absolutely love levels 1 & 2 and I think it’s a perfect fit for my son. I just don’t want to teach sentence diagramming. So if levels 3 & 4 teach in much the same way as levels 1 & 2 aside from the introduction of diagramming I’d love to continue with the series.
Yes. Honestly after using this level with one child and skipping it with the other, it's been fine. Diagramming sentences is more of a visual aid to teach that every word in the sentence has a purpose and a place.
This does not include spelling, no. That being said, there are extra activities at the end of most lessons where spelling can be practiced. There's a lot of dictation practice but no specific spelling instruction.
We are working through level 1 now with my youngest 2. I just found this levels (3) teacher guide for $6! So I plan on using it next year with my kid who will be in 4th grade then. Do you add anything? Writing with Ease?
I didn't add writing or anything on top of this, level 3 was plenty for him that year. However, if I were using this for a 5th grader or older, definitely add writing.
Just found your channel from looking into the language lessons! I subscribed! This video was great! Thank you.
You’re so welcome!
Great video. Very helpful. Does FLL contain paragraph editing???
Not at this level, no.

We've use First Language Lessons also. I love that your son use a dictionary. YES! ABC song, I even still do it as a adult. 🤣
Is this a full ELA curriculum? Or do you need spelling, etc outside of this?

Could a child do this level if they didn’t do level 2
They could, but levels 1 and 2 give a really solid foundation.
