The thing is, RM isn’t being forced to changing his way of thinking to please an audience, but he chooses to. When he wrote the so called misogynistic lyrics he wasn't trying to offend anybody, he was just creating a song about raging hormones. But to better help him understand why people would take offense to the song, he consulted with people who can inform him of these things. Wanting to change your way of thinking and better understand the people who have a different perspective as you isn't oppression but growth.
RM is the type of person who is constantly studying the world around him, for a guy as young as he is, he really comes off as a person who has lived centuries, but as a fan you can see the changes he has gone through and how he portrays wisdom and his self assurance.

One thing that i think you're missing is that these entertainment companies DID try to branch out to the wider world and wider markets. BTS is not just big in Korea. Those graphs you saw where BTS accounts for 51% of market share actually represent global music markets. BTS is bigger than kpop no matter what country's market you look at.
So when you say "why didnt BTS try to go to other places like the US?" Well, they did. And they succeeded. Thats why you know who they are. It's not that Koreans listen to them a lot and love them enough that they're suddenly getting global attention and earning new fans globally, its that they already have fans (and a lot of them) all over the globe. Their US shows sell out and most of those tickets are bought by US citizens.

@@DANDJREACT also, BTS were bigger in the US and globally than Korea since they were on Twitter and TH-cam and filmed their own content like "Run BTS", which is why when they got their first grand prize so many Korean fans of other groups were so shellshocked. Adding how the Korean media downplays BTS' successes, it makes sense why many Korean people don't understand how globally loved BTS is. And many K-Pop groups have tried to branch into global markets, but it's hard in the West due to the negative stereotypes towards K-Pop as "bubblegum pop/manufactured music"/etc. Thank for the reaction!

I think one of the reasons that people were so adimant (and still are) when it comes to taking down BTS is that they are from a small company, they don't follow the normal "k-pop" idol mold, they have always had music freedom, and a say in all creative processes etc. Other companies (mainly the big ones) dont want this group to beat their groups and singers, they have influence in media, music shows etc. Its all BS.
ARMY have also had to deal with people constantly hating on us as well, during fan voting, other geoups will all group together to vote for an artist/group other than BTS just to try and take away chances of winning awards (Reminder to vote for take two on fanstar).

Much of the early rap that the guys grew up on was very misogynistic. And young guys tend to parrot that with little thought. It's a good thing that criticism caused RM to pay attention to the messages of lyrics.
Their awareness of messaging is why their lyrics are intentionally meaningful.

They DID expand at the same time outside of South Korea via tours and album sales too. For example, South America, UK (where they also got hate originally), China, other parts of Europe, and the U.S. However, they Didn't get radio play (at least not in the U.S.). In fact, even with the release of their 3 all-English songs during the pandemic, where I am at in the U.S. I have NEVER heard a BTS song on the radio here. Well, there is one exception: I heard My Universe (a ColdplayxBTX collab song) in the supermarket about a month ago. In my mind, they are only playing that because it's Coldplay, not because BTS are in it. Anyway, I wish there wasn't so much hate in the world, but there always has been and likely always will be. I love that Jung Kook covered a UK band Oasis' song on BBC Radio 1 last week called "Let There Be Love" (in addition to his smash hit "Seven" which BETTER get radio play!!!).

K-pop has been active with numerous idol groups since 1990's. From Seo Taiji & Boys m, G.O.D to till date. Idols wore make up in early days in a different styles maybe similar to Backstreet boys. I don't know the exact reason for wearing makeup but I can say that stylizing artists various outfits and their make up has been an important part of the k-pop culture as public vision has evolved from being a music lovers less to seeing their favourite artists in their makeup and fancy outfits more not actually concentrating the concept of such artists music and their meanings. This is why BTS is constantly changing the mindset of people having such thoughts that k-pop idols are only for showing off their handsomeness and prettyness and not their music. These stereotypes have gradually decreased over the years as a result of BTS connecting to the youth of the world.

As far as the make-up is concerned, it is a common thing with K-Pop idols (which is what they were before they became global superstars) and speaks to the Korean culture's obsession with beauty. Even outside of K-Pop, Korean beauty products have a huge market (I use a few myself) and K-Pop groups typically have a member who is "the visual: (i.e. the really, really good-looking one who is the "face" of the group.) BTS were just following the norm wearing make-up on stage and for media appearances. At this point, they still wear make-up in those same venues, but they have also transcended the restrictions of K-Pop in other areas of personal appearance, such as JungKook's tats, which he is forced to cover up when he appears on Korean TV shows.

Thanks guys. I have been an ARMY since 2014 and unfortunately this is barely the tip of the iceberg. The vitriol that ARMY and BTS have been subjected to year after year is unbelievable. At one point, if you were an ARMY in South Korean, you had to hide it. Bullies who were fans of other groups were harassing and even physically attacking ARMYs. They would also get an ARMY's personal information and release it online encouraging others to harrass them. It was so sad. There was nothing we as international ARMY could do other than just calling out the behaviour online. Because BTS were treated so badly, we ARMY determined that we would make them so successful that no one would be able to treat them that way again....and we have..and they still get tons of crap but at least they are successful enough now that they don't have to subject themselves to it. I was part of a team that organized accounts in the US to request BTS to be played on the radio starting back in 2017. You would not even believe the shit DJs and radio programmers, station managers, etc said to us. You have no idea what ARMY has put themselves through in an attempt to protect BTS. However, I want to say that that is absolutely no excuse for any person calling themselves and ARMY to attack, put down, bully, etc another human being. That is the opposite of what we as ARMY try to do. We try to spread love and positivity just like BTS. In fact, anyone who does those kinds of hurtful things may call themselves an ARMY but no one else does. There is a saying in the fandom that ARMY are the face of BTS. Everything we do is reflected back on them whether it is good or bad. Therefore, we try to make sure that we always show a good face to the world. However, when you have somewhere between 40 and 90 million fans from every country in the world, there are going to be bad apples. There is no avoiding it. It is just statistics. However, I would like to think that the overwhelming majority are good apples. At the time of their debut, Jin (the eldest) was only 20 years old and Jungkook (the youngest) was only 15. So, they wore school uniforms in their music videos, because the majority were, in fact, still in school. And how can you accuse someone of plagiarism for having on the same clothes, or having the same hair color or using similar props, when no one can claim ownership of such clothes, or haircolor or props! If you copy somebody's original song, or paraphrase another's writing or maybe someone's homework! ...that can be labelled as plagiarism. Especially in Korea it is common for all idols regardless of gender to wear eyeshadow, eyeliner, and lipstick or gloss in public. In the west male celebrities don't really wear those things, and the underground guys over there don't wear any. Everyone who's been on tv, in the US and everywhere else does have to wear makeup for the cameras though, such as powder and foundation or coverup. They just don't wear the eyeshadow etc over here. It's a huge pet peeve of mine when people assign genders to inanimate objects like colors, clothes or makeup. I personally love seeing a man in full makeup and a skirt. If a guy wants to wear pink or makeup or a skirt he should be able to without judgment. The west and a lot of places have weird notions of what makes "a man". Keep in mind that this is just a small portion of what they've dealt with. These guys have really been through the wringer. They've had racist remarks openly hurled at them while on the red carpet, fandoms teamed up against them as late as last week, the industry (national and international) constantly tries to keep them down by openly cheating or "suddenly" changing the rules because BTS and Big Hit categorically refuse to play the payola game, and so on.... I'm honestly amazed that they're still sane at this point.
I also highly recommend Boracity Magazine's videos on BTS vs different entities in the music industry, like BTS vs radio or BTS vs Spotify. They're really well made and will give you a great insight into BTS and more importantly the industry as a whole, especially the North American market. Geez, the corruption.....allegedly. 😅
Last but not least and just to clarify: The misogynistic lyrics basically hinged on three things: Two tweets by RM where he covered snippets of US rap songs that *really* didn't translate well 🤭, the MV for Boy IN Love which mimicked trends in Korean Kdramas and the song War Of Hormone which is a funny look into the mind of a hormonal teenage boy and from the MV it's very clear (to me at least) that it wasn't meant to be taken so seriously. As a western woman I have absolutely no problems with the lyrics. In fact it's a total banger, I think you'd really like it. 🤘😎🤘

for the misogynistic part, the context needs to be added to be fully understood. At that time a murder in Korea happened. A man murdered a woman just because he hated women, it's a famous case that can be google it. Because of it, there was a huge feminist movement and women were done, especially Korean women were the ones that had a problem with war of hormones...and honestly who can blame them. I don't get offended by the song but different women have different experiences. We all appreciate how they learn from the situation, read feminist books and listen to women's stories. They truly are the hope for men to change for the better in a patriotic society. How many men actually listen and learn...not many. Most get offended and call us Karen.

With regards to RM vetting his lyrics with a women's studies professor, I think you are missing a lot of cultural context here, in that feminism is not viewed in the same way at all in Korea as it is in the United States (as in the explicitly anti-woman presidential candidate won the last election there), so it's actually quite a subversive act to consult a feminist and openly declare oneself in favor of equal rights for women, which BTS has done multiple times. And it isn't as though BTS is censoring themselves when it comes to lyrics; I sincerely doubt people who read lyrics from the members post-this incident would say that they're holding anything back; they're just making sure they don't inadvertently cause damage or harm, which is quite different to censoring bigoted language.

A stylist who worked on BTS's debut said that the idea of heavy and smoky makeup that BTS used was his and was inspired by international fashion and was basically a disruptive pattern because heavy makeup was only intended for female use at least. In South Korea, I guess it was a way to stand out since at that time the idols had to be soft and pretty Korean style. While it is true Being different brought many attacks on BTS, it was also the key to being noticed by an international audience. Before BTS, overseas (aka western) success for kpop was a literal fantasy. _No one_ thought kpop, much less any kpop grp, would actually be successful act outside the Asian music market. And that's bc big labels and grps have who tried before BTS all failed.
So, Japan was really the targeted foreign market for kpop back then, and BTS _did_ make music to appeal to that market and were extremely successful there (I'd even say the growth of J-ARMY completely outpaced K-ARMY from the start bc even BTS's CEO stated that the grp's music was better received overseas than in SK during a live lecture on the program, Good Insight, and BTS were dominating Japanese charts before even getting their first music award in SK).
And BTS _were_ the first kpop act to actually successfully break into the western markets beyond just a fad/trend. Their success is the primary reason kpop labels can even target western markets now bc BTS kept the doors open for kpop in those markets in the first place.

BTS Went to the foreign market as the people overseas were giving a Lot love n support to them, But BTS can't completely backlash/leave the Kpop industry bcoz it was their base. their starting point. So they tried to be connected to the roots, even though they were often looked down by Korean pop industry.
    37:12
BTS was breaking Records, but the Korean Media never gave attention to BTS, even though they always exagerated the small achievements of other groups. BTS came in Billborad charts, korean media paid negligible attention. BTS got Grammy Nomination (as the One and only Kpop group Ever to do tht), which is a Historic Moment. But the publicity by Korean Media over this was inconsiderate. The media didn't mention the fact tht BTS got a Grammy nomination n tht it's a Very Big Acomplishment, But they Highlighted tht BTS didn't get the Award in Grammys. It is ridiculous, like getting a Nomination in Grammy is an Enormous Achievement in itself as a Kpop artist.

the jump from "I have to check with professionals to make sure I'm not spreading a misogynistic message to my fans" to "I can't make unique art anymore" doesn't make any sense. Obviously if you want to improve your outlook on the world and self reflect about your potentially harmful biases, that doesn't mean you're making music untrue to yourself. It means you're learning not to promote/project your narrow world view. Saying he's not being 'true to himself' by asking more informed people for advice is completely missing the point of why he did it in the first place. He's not trying to cover his tracks that he's secretly misogynistic... he's actually using their advice. Think about that for a second.
Also, this was literally only one example of them consulting someone outside of music before releasing something. There are SO MANY things they write music about. Saying there will be nothing left to write about is a massive exaggeration. Have you even listened to BTS? They write about so much more than just women. Why would you assume that everything they write about would be boiled down to being 'the same' or 'robotic' due to this one instance? That's a fallacy. It's propaganda. That obviously would never happen. Learning to be sensitive to others doesn't mean you lose your freedom, it just means you're trying to be a better person.

Imagine a perfect little ecosystem between major record labels and media companies that work together to sell them their music, TV programs and getting comercial and sponsors from big brands for years, then imagine a small “nobody” agency that was close to going bankrupt constantly outselling their artists and winning awards against them. That is why there’s always been so much sabotage and mistreatment.
“BTS paved the way” by boracity magazine is a good video to understand the path BTS had to take to get into the American music market. They couldn’t do it through the “normal” connections between record labels bc their company was very small, IF (which is a big IF in the first place) major American labels were going to partner with any Korean label it would be the biggest and most influential in the business (they had to be part of that ecosystem of connections).
“Why the industry is terrified of BTS” is also a good one to understand the relationship American companies want to have with foreign ones, like any major K-pop company.

the reason why people thought V was mocking another group is because he was mouthing the words to "LOSER" by BIG BANG after they won 1st place and so fans of the group that didn't win (not BIG BANG) thought he was mocking them for being "losers". i can definitely see why they would think that. it was an unfortunate coincidence but he definitely didn't mean it maliciously.
edit: the misogynistic song they are talking about is "War of Hormone". and personally, i am not a fan of the song musically or the lyrics but that's because i was used to the BTS who wrote songs about living your dream and not caring what people think. when they released War of Hormone it shocked a lot of people because fans weren't used to or expecting that type of song. nothing is outright offensive in the lyrics it's just talking about womens bodies and being a little objectifying regarding liking women wearing "see through clothes", "girls tummies", and them asking women to "wear more high heels", because it makes them drip with sweat, that women are the best "creatures", etc. and a lot of the lyrics are them saying "because i'm a man" "my testosterone" "as a man" "I'm a bad boy so i like bad girl", etc. tbh i started listening to k-rap and k-pop because i was tired of listening to american rap and american music which a lot of the time is very vulgar and talks way too much about sex and drugs and womens bodies. i liked that k-pop didn't have a lot of songs like that. but i understand that these boys were in their late teens and early twenties (the youngest, Jungkook, had just turned 18) when this song came out so i get why they were writing stuff like that. and that song is MILD compared to the stuff on the TOP 40 radio in the US... but at the time it was just shocking. hope that helps your understanding. :)

BTS did not start out by recording in a garage. The Big Hit company was cash strapped and had made arrangements in conjunction with a Korean tv station to send members to LA to do a reality tv show learning hip hop from American practitioners, including some notables. Obviously there was cost splitting which left Big Hit with inadequate money to rent an American recording studio while away from their own so they set up in a garage with some rudimentary equipment. When Warren G who was part of the show caught wind of what was going on he lent out his LA studio. So the scene does reflect legitimate financial hardship, but the narrative allows for viewer interpretation that the album was completed in a garage.

The guys that were dissing them simply wanted to be a**holes, so they tried to attack their masculinity to humiliate them.

Literal countries/political parties targeting BTS is the wildest thing to me.
This is smt that happened after this video, but BTS were also targeted by the CCP/Chinese nationalists after making a speech at an event honoring the soldiers between US-SK who fought during the Korean War. RM did not mention anything besides thanking the soldiers for fighting and saying they will be remembered, and "China" absolutely lost it bc RM never mentioned China.
It's even more hilarious (but in a sad way) bc C-ARMYs were sharing on forums abt how locals could tell it was mostly paid "outrage" (and a lot of antis from other fandoms) since the majority of cnetz understood that it was an event for only 2 countries, so it'd make no sense to bring up another country, esp one on the opposing side. It was even more suss bc it happened just before Bighit's company went public. And then Chinese outlets started quietly deleting their articles abt it after western media articles came out and were making fun of China for the outrage.
I do think that this, (and some other things) were the final nail for BTS bc they have gotten a LOT more openly critical abt China's practices against Korea since then (RM actually posted abt China cheating in the Olympics and Suga directly called out China's Korean Hallyu ban, which is a big no-no for any Korean trying to get into the Chinese market).

There is something you should understand, the media in Korea is controlled by the 3 main entertainment agencies: JYP, YG and SM. This means that the news seeks to raise the content of the artists who are contracted under these agencies and the fact that BTS did not belong to the select club of the BIG3 made it possible for them to be removed from the programs at the beginning or their participation in them was not considered. them and when they became famous, they became a target, since they began to win all the awards and that took away the strength of the idols of those agencies that were used to winning. Whew! This is a tough one to get through. Celeste did a great job of getting a lot of the major issues into one video. It’s crazy that there are even more situations like this that have happened recently. As they continue to rise the hate continues as well. I have so much respect for the guys for their attitude toward all the animosity, they really try not to harbor resentment or even give the haters a bigger platform by responding to comments. 💜

Our chance is only #TakeTwo as 'TMA Best Music Summer', 'Most Voted Artist', 'Best Ads Award' and 'FNS Choice Award Group' this year. What if Jungkook or V or Jimin or RM or Suga attending as a representative 🥺 we never know that 🙏
We have 4 days left to vote on Best Music Summer, before the rest of the categories starts. We already lost in 2 categories with the same opponent 🥺.

They do not wish to see a non-American thrive here. They all want to see their downfall. And on top of that, they get completely ridiculed for seeking "western validation".

I'm 75, discovered bts during pandemic with Permission to Dance. The lyrics of the song were in English. The verse - we don't need permission to dance - caught my attention. It's non-confirmity made me jump...i exist and i don't need permission to exist. I am alive then i don't need permission to live. The second reason but deeper one is the narrative of David dancing naked before Ark of the Covenant. In the story David planned to build a temple for God to be His house. In response God through Prophet Samuel crashed his plan for it was to be David's son Solomon that the Templebwould be built. David was too presumptuous, for it was God who built the House of David. His dancing before the Ark of the Covenant though was accepted was God.

Thank you - this is a hard watch but essential! I've watched this many times. BTS' book, Beyond the Story talks a lot about the hate they received and the way it did affect the members. all of them felt beaten down at one time or another, and at one time or another really questioned if they could carry on, or whether they should. What got them through - the fact that they are seven and had each other. It sounds simple, but it's fundamentally quite mysterious - Why did they become so close - not even they can explain, but they are forever grateful to each other and to ARMY. Hope you don't mind a long post!
Actually, the album in a garage would be understandable, if they had not debuted - but they had already debited. They went to LA (I think) for a docuseries called american Hustle Life and borrowed one of the staff's garage because they had no money for a studio
The clip with the hip hop disrespect was a broadcast at a festival. The main snide guy was a friend of RM's who obviously took RM becoming an idol quite personally. He is no big name, but continues to diss BTS - however he (I think) recently got out of prison where he had been for assault. Great guy ... not! Now if HE had been an idol he would now have no career, but because he's only a rapper .... 🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣 ... but both Suga and RM have clap-back songs that decimate these shallow views, so, guys, it's all great material, so, thanks!
Of course BTS were not the first to wear make-up! Make-up has for years been common practice for Kpop idols and is actually becoming fairly common for ordinary chaps to wear make up day to day. There is also a massive Korean market for male skin care (and it works!). It is normal ni show business: idols are required to be absolutely perfect and flawless - they are always on display and are not 'meant' to be normal people so should not look it. By the time BTS started it was even common for US rap artists on stage. BTW ... in that little clip you hear a girl say "Shut the front door!" - low flying translation, because I love it - this means, shut the f*** up 😂🤣😃💜
School thing - yes they were about that age, but they had also been working on the School trilogy of albums. Not to get a younger audience, because some of them were actually still in school anyway! They were writing about their own experience and their own lives - something still rare in Kpop. And goodness! you can;t copyright a hair colour. People would say they copied just to hate on them and yes a lot of the hate was co-ordinated by other companies.
"Misogynist lyrics" has got to be a bit of a joke". Korea has a pretty terminal record on women's rights and is still quite a misogynist country. Little is being done to change that, sadly. If you learn a little bit about the country and society, you realise that despite the amazing and admirable qualities of the people and society, hypocrisy is strong in these ones. RM did not 'have to go' to sensitivity training - he chose to. He does express himself, and still does. To think that learning about misogyny limits your freedom of expression is a bit ignorant - apologies, but once you know BTS music you know it is honest, direct, and very personal. Yes - the criticism was fake, but he chose to learn from it.
Plagiarism is a joke too = look back now at other idols' songs following BTS - really direct copies of BTS supbjects, styles and content. Do we point a finger? no.
Death threats: when threats were made against Jimin. Jin and he wore identical hair and clothes to confuse any potential attacker. It absolutely possible to id and prosecute death threats - and yes in the US too - you can prosecute death threats. All you need is to id the IP address, the time of the posting and where it came from. They do it all the time.
V's grandmother: the abuse is even worse than it seems. This was a Korean hate campaign and they knew what they were doing and the significance. Because his family were not well off and both his parents worked away, his gran actually brought up him and his siblings for many years 0 his life in BTS meant he was missing her anyway! V's announcement came on the 49th day after her death: this is a special day in Korean culture, which is celebrated with a special family meeting and ceremonies because on this day the soul of the deceased is able to go forward and be reincarnated. It is actually the last day to say goodbye. Choosing to use this to manipulate hate is absolutely mind chillingly vicious.
I suspect that this was the straw which prompted BTS to decide to pursue and prosecute haters. I just wish they would publicise the details more and name and shame!
Of course, since this, we have lost several young and much loved and talented idols to suicide because of the stress of the industry and the hate they face online and in the media. I doubt their companies are doing enough to support them but that has been a problem for many years.
Korean independence from Japan only happened after WWII which was ended in Asia after the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. No one can deny the link: showing an image of the explosion in that context does not imply approval of the deaths, but can mean celebrating the end of the slaughter by the Japanese armies and many other abuses across all of the countries the occupied in the east. Japan, however doesn't like that - understandable. It's also worth noting that many of the Japanese troops had no choice - they were little more than vermin in the eyes of officers and rulers, often badly fed or starving.
There is a lot of evidence to suggest that attacks are co-ordinated by other label/s but it makes no difference. But even though now they genuinely can;t compete with them, these attacks started even before debut and when BTS were nobodies! Why ? No idea, but they were clearly threatened even then.
So why are the media against them? ... th-cam.com/video/NwIkdGL_HUE/w-d-xo.html
Why don;t other bands try to target US and Europe - they are starting to, and quite rightly get a lot of love - but they don't have ARMY so it's taking a long time. BTS did make some efforts to target abroad, but it was really an organic movement driven by ARMY.
MMS - yes BTS always wanted to do it, but the handling of the issue by the military authorities was absolutely pathetic and very unprofessional - they made jokes of themselves! There is already an exemption system for athletes and classical musicians - none of whom do as much for Korea either culturally or economically as BTS. Also many very rich sons simply bribe their way out of MMS either paying off recruiters or buying fake medical diagnoses or both - and everyone knows it. Even if they had exempted BTS, members could still have volunteered! Dunno if they would have though. Those members who have already joined up are excelling.
The German DJ went from a prime time-ish slot and now has a 1 hour show on Sunday lunchtime. Germany still has Nazis. BTS has millions of fans in Europe and Africa as well as USA. Abusers and bullies ALWAYS claim it is a joke! They don't need a reason - they just want an excuse.
Liam sadly makes himself very pathetic here. Anyone know where Forever in your mind is now?
    Ignorance and Racists are everywhere.
You might like xCeleste's ARMY video or a two part video from Orig Explores which interviews ARMYs themselves (quite moving though). Or check out a RUN BTS video: any one - - always a laugh! Or a Bon Voyage - BTS let loose in the wild on holiday as 'normal' people - Weverse or Bangtan TV.

Twitter or X is a very toxic place, unfortunately it’s even worse with solo era, what is really sad is when I became an Army over 4 yrs ago it wasn’t that bad, only a few bad apples, but with the success BTS has made throughout the world we have baby armies who are getting wrong information.
BTS was not the favorite in Korea, Celeste blurred out name E** but those who have been with the group long enough know that it’s EXO they were the favorite group so when BTS started winning the others fandom where the ones who called the customer service line, most of the hate came from this fandom, which is ironic since the members of that group don’t all get along, unlike BTS who are a true family, everything you see from BTS themselves is genuine, Suga was the one during a meeting on recording things like Bon Voyages, Run BTS and all the other video’s they do said they should show their genuine feelings and not be fake, BTS have always been as honest as they could be with us, all the members treat us more like friends than fans, they talk about it several times how we BTS and Army are a family. All of the members are amazing, the fact that they don’t hide their emotions with us is evidence of how much they love us, like V when his Grandma died, all 7 members had tears in their eyes when Army at Wembley Stadium surprised them by sing forever young to the all in Korean, and recently Suga held his Final Final D-Day concert in Seoul the 3 days concerts were all great, but the 3rd night was the most emotional, Suga sings 3 very meaningful Snooze which he sings about the road to your dreams ( his as an idol )how hard it is, but unlike BTS, these new Idols can count on him for support, then My Dear Friend about his real life friend and how they had a fight and lost the friendship, the friend turned out having drug problems, jail etc, Suga blames himself for not have held onto him and kept him from the bad path he took, then Amygalda, which is Suga’s life story, the bad thing he went thru, depression, suicide attempts, his parents health issues, his accident he couldn’t even talk about where he messed up his shoulder which he just finally 3 yrs ago got fixed, he never mentioned it for fear of being kicked out of BTS, so again emo big time, so much so he couldn’t sing a lot of it because he was crying so bad, and when he did sing you could see the agony on his face as he belted out the lyrics, Army sang for him the parts he couldn’t, he apologized to everyone, which we didn’t need, but I admire him so much for letting himself be so vulnerable, the concert wasn’t only live in Seoul but streamed live for the entire world ( Army or really anyone who paid for online concerts ) all of the guys are like this with us, how many artist would be so openly vulnerable like that? Not many that I can think of. So you see yet another reason out of millions of reasons why we love the guys so much and are extremely protective of them.
Please when you can check out AgustD Suga’s ultra Ego

To me, Kpop has a persona to uphold with idols. They must present a certain look, visuals, weight, personifying idyllic idols, and makeup is just part of their imagery to meet that expectation. So now, makeup is just part of the Kpop culture. Once the West accept that, you will find, that makeup is not even an issue. People must first look past that and just enjoy some of the great music that comes from many great Korean idols. Artists globally have been wearing makeup for decades.

Wearing make up as an idol is not that much of a foreign concept in music. You have bands like Nirvana, queen etc. who have worn make up since the 1970s. The Korean pop industry uses make up to raise idols attractiveness to their audience. The initial goal in the K-pop industry was to create beautiful people that seem perfect in every way. That ties into the K-pop mindset of having idols, not drink, take drugs or date. They are supposed to be flawless. It can be a damaging concept, but it is part of the Kpop culture.

a lot of stuff goes on twitter, some antis pretend to be ARMYs to create fanwars against other fandoms to make people hate us. plus even under nonbts related tweets, they’ll find a way to mention BTS and put them down. Sometimes I break down crying seeing those comments because I know none of the members deserve this type of deep hatred. And the fact that I can’t stop people from saying horrible things about them fills me with hopelessness. I treat them as if they were my most precious treasure, seeing someone else treat them like trash makes me sad. They’re so sweet and genuine. I always wonder how could anyone hate these seven guys

Hi. I believe wearing makeup is an idol thing. Since RM and Suga were rappers makeup was not a thing. Big bang were Idols from beginning. Idols are based on physical appearance being beautiful and all that, BTS broke the mold by becoming Idols who were looked down on. XCeleste is being nice, BTS we’re treated like unwanted stepchildren by the industry and other idol groups. If I am wrong someone will correct me in the comments.

BTS is true definition of "Teamwork makes Dreamwork". If you watch their interviews and yearly anniversary festa videos, it will feel like you're in a group therapy when they talk to each other. Maybe that's why those attacks and death threats never work because they have each others back.
The "haters" aren't just some basement inhabiting losers or crazy little girls. The ones that are throwing huge organized hate attacks on BTS are industry insiders("allegedly ") as even when they are not whole as a group, they are conquering the music industry.

For the makeup thing, criticism towards BTS doesn't make sense whatsoever. There are many male artists like David Bowie, Boy George wore makeup before. Nobody criticise them now. Then why people treat BTS differently? In any entertainment and TV industry in the world, people on show wear make up from basic foundation or shading to full. As an old army, I heard so many mockery, especially from western media and haters, on BTS wearing make up, It really sickens me. Some people are so stupid and full of hatred. So toxic to the world.

13:54 reflecting on oneself and seeing that you're not being misogynistic is not going to hinder a person from writing great lyrics. People are not just a shitty writers but also people if they can't.
BTS have been criticised for lyrics a lot just because of it's them standing up for the right things or for swearing etc but they don't change or ask for forgiveness for that, none of it, except for this case. So you do not need to worry about them not having artistic freedom or not being able to write what they want. They do not just do things to please ARMY.
Listening to women in this case and learning is fantastic, evolving is great. The lyrics wasn't a big deal and was blown up but as you hear said in the video, they learnt from it and grew.
They speak their mind but they do it without being misogynistic. And that's no problem for them.
RM is a fantastic songwriter and person.
    People should learn from him.
15:15 your attitude is what's sad man. You just dismissing it is off-putting to me.

It's sad how many times fandoms gang up on BTS, recently a fandom had asked many fandoms to team up with them to make sure that JK's solo song didn't win any awards. He still won but it's sad how it's always been kpop vs BTS I wish people would just enjoy the music like it's meant to be enjoyed. 😔

I started my journey with BTS in February this year. I found the fandom wars are ridiculous and non-sense. When the fandoms are “fighting” on line, the artists from different groups supported by those fans are friends, really good friends. So why fights?
I am really annoyed by the toxic fans including the toxic armies and solo stans….
If I don’t like some music or some artist, I just ignore it and walk away.
Anyway, there are more good fans than the sick ones. So… love BTS! OT7!

@@DANDJREACT I think criticism is fine. It’s normal especially in this industry. Constructed criticism helps the group grow. What I think is wrong are the malicious intentions. Those people just want to attack and mock BTS. So they started rumors and personal attacks even death threats. They just want to take down BTS. They ask questions just to create issues, not really want to know the answers. And no matter what BTS responds, those attackers can twist what BTS say or turn into another arguments. This is sick and wrong…😢

I wanted to get to know you guys but you went all in on defense of misogyny & did the "thicker skin" mocking comment.
It's not "sad" for people to put effort into not writing harmful lyrics, and people who point out harmful things don't need a "thicker skin." Artistic license doesn't mean you should just hurt people and not expect anyone to object.
I'm sad about it - you seem like interesting people in some ways, but I'm not going to be able to get past that. Life is genuinely rough for some of us in ways I suspect you don't understand and might have never thought about.
RM's lyrics weren't the worst thing, it was blown out of proportion - but his response was excellent, and his desire to do better wasn't about not getting in trouble. He actually wanted to do better. He's a good person.

I think a lot of the hate was engineered by fandoms and the management companies. Fans didn’t want to accept that their favorite bands were losing to this new band who didn’t even have a large label/management company supporting them. And the companies were upset that the bands they promoted and were financially supporting were losing to BTS. It seems like there was pay-to-play type relationships between the media and those large labels and the Big3 had tight control of it. So BTS went around them using social media and when they started making money they started investing in creating other avenues to circumvent that corrupt system. BTS’ label is now the largest in the KPop industry (after practically going bankrupt in BTS’ early days).

To be more precise, the problem with plagiarism accusations is for hair colors and concepts that are common and not something to be owned by anyone. In the picture shown, Jimin has orange hair and it is compared with another idol who has orange hair as well. So having the same hair color is considered plagiarism? 😐 I think that's why these incidents are included in the series of unfairness done to BTS.

Also SK is still pretty new especially at that time too having introduced more western trends it’s only been since late 80s they have had independence it would take time for change in aspects like music and style but also having older generations outlook and open minded too that change … yes they have had idolism for years prior to BTS but it’s been BTS that has stuck out with differing aspects of thier craft too point out the injustices and corruption helping too change minds and open hearts which is not always what idols have done or do now there are a few but BTS doesn’t flinch when faced with it … I’m from UK 🇬🇧 so my knowledge on South Korea has been from looking at info I find it fascinating and gives more wider view of struggles that still continue

They strarted from a small company but they have a real tallent and passion for music that they fear them even before they became big they can see it like army can see it so they all try to come together and sabotage them because theyve came from a smaller company, an easy target
