    Ex-volleyball player here: A really easy thing not to know, is how hard it actually is to aim while serving. Back at my high school team, most people aimed at the center of the court, and still missed about 10% of their serves. Someone who can consistently hit the same area of the court, again and again, it's actually a pretty amazing asset regardless of how strong or tricky his serve is. Pay close attention to Sugawara's serves across the show, and it will become clear how valuable this can be.

    • @MulberryFC
      @MulberryFC 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      is this really true? I'm a football/soccer player and can't imagine not being able to hit a ball in the same area accurately like 95% of the time, even when passing like 50+ yards. Surely decent volleyball players can accurately hit the same quarter of the court without issue

    • @jucavelu
      @jucavelu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@MulberryFC that's been my experience. I also follow Coach Donny, a professional volleyball coach who has a TH-cam channel, and he claims that people who can accurately hit the same area constantly are highly valuable even at college levels.
      P.S: I suck at soccer, but I feel more confident that I would pass a football to someone somewhat far away than I feel serving a specific position on a volleyball court. I think it's because a football you can easily position anywhere you want, and it's waiting for you at the same place on the ground, while a volleyball it's on constant movement on the air, and even throwing a ball up before serving can put the ball at a strange place where you have only a second to adjust.

    • @porygon-z4503
      @porygon-z4503 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@MulberryFC You have way more control throwing/kicking a ball (especially a soccer ball) than you do smacking a volleyball, they are very sensitive.
      Also you have to consider that you aren't aiming straight, you have to aim for where the ball falls after you make it over the net. So no direct paths

    • @leandrodiaz5433
      @leandrodiaz5433 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MulberryFC yeah, aiming consistently is pretty hard. you can get a few nice serves but the hard part is the consistency. it's not as easy as with football

    • @baron6797
      @baron6797 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I know it's not the same at all but in archery, if you keep doing the same thing(anchor points) over and over, you get consistency. I can imagine it's pretty difficult with an overhead volleyball serve because you don't have control using your arm, shoulder and hand the same way everytime. You have so many moving joints that you can't get repetition.

    Just a reminder, that one of the biggest things about being an Ace is about scoring points regardless of how bad the situation is. Hinata just scored a match point on a slow set, with no time to position himself, against a triple block. This really was a big step towards his dreams of being the ace.

    For a sports anime I'd recommend Run with the Wind. It's an anime about running, but IT SO MUCH MORE than that. The story is more slice of life that revolves around running. It is produced by Production IG the same team as Haikyuu and even has the same OST Composer, Yuki Hayaski. There is only has one season but has the same emotional roller coaster as Haikyuu. Highly underrated.

      It's definitely another one of those that makes you feel for the rivals, win or lose, for sure. Plus the art style to it and the one family... It feels very... comforting, like a cozy blanket and cup of tea at home, even despite some of the heavier topics and shogi specific stuff.

    As someone who doesn't really like sports..I love sports anime!! There's so many, some have more sport than others. "Run With The Wind" is made by the same people that did Haikyuu and it's beautiful♡♡♡ it's about long distance running. Definitely my favourite after Haikyuu. I think more popular up there with Haikyuu is "Kuroko no Basket" (basketball one) and "Yuri on Ice" of course for ice skating which is so cute. I wasn't as fussed on Kuroko but it was ok. A lot of people adore it. "Free!" is about swimming. Maybe a bit more..'moody boys swim out their feelings' than like competitions etc but it's cute. Chihiyafuru is...I'd call it sports anime...it's about a card game called Karuta (i think..it's been a while), good balance between sportness and the characters and their love triangle 😅, i know there's ones for boxing..tennis...i saw a few eps of a rugby one once. Boys rhythmic gymnastics has an anime 🤣. Ping Ping the Animation has a wacky art style but is a good show. I suppose Sk8 The Infinity could count...that's about skateboarding and is wild 🤣 honestly i think there's an anime for everything that be vaguely considered a sport......climbing! Wall climbing..that has one too....beach volleyball...badminton....cheerleading.....quizzing?...baseball. These are only the ones I've come across. I've not watched them all fully but Haikyuu beats them all for me and RWTW is close.
