    Story behind the song:
    The American Heritage Lyceum Philharmonic (Youth Orchestra) and its director, Kayson Brown, approached us with this idea. We loved it. It combined two of the things we are working to accomplish -- inviting people to classical music and inspiring young musicians. Steven Sharp Nelson had soloed with the orchestra the previous year and loved the spirit and the talent that the orchestra showed at such young ages (ages 13-18!) Together we developed the concept of "Beethoven's 5 Secrets," combining OneRepublic's tune "Secrets" with melodies and moments from all four movements of Beethoven's 5th Symphony.
    We used 5 different melodies from the 4 movements of Beethoven's 5th Symphony (not including the "bridge" the orchestra plays in the middle). Try to guess where they are and where they come from!
    What are Beethoven's secrets? He had many. His most prominent secret that he desperately tried to keep from the public and that caused him to be considered extremely eccentric, irritable, and hermit-like was his "weakness." He was deaf during most of his life. Imagine that...one of the greatest composers that ever lived could hardly hear. And yet, he wrote his life's greatest works after becoming deaf. He believed that art itself had "secrets" that had to be "forced into" in order to obtain art's highest level. There is no doubt Beethoven discovered many of the "secrets" of art -- people all over the world enjoy them every day. He was a true master of music, blessed by God. This piece and video are dedicated to him.

    The fact that he's crying shows how much pasion he puts in his performance and how much he enjoy playing. That is priceless. That touched my soul. Long live Piano Guys

      DjDark333 Or how much he is acting , i think he is over acting. (my own opinion)

    • @RondallaScores
      @RondallaScores 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Waseem Maro Maybe, but I can proudly say that he's playing it will full passion from the heart and not acting. If you haven't played and instrument or even performed, then you would't understand why he's crying.

    • @laughabout1234
      @laughabout1234 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      +Waseem Maro That was just rude. I highly doubt you have half the talent he does. I play alto saxophone and I even cry too sometimes when I play. He mentioned that when he plays he gets into like a trance and just falls into the music being played. So he is not acting and obviously you have never played an instrument before.

      Waseem Maro You must show passion in music if you do you will feel emotions. But only if you desire the instrument cause if you don't the music you make won't allow you to feel anything. I played the piano one time i was so happy i had fun playing it. You must have a feeling but you must like it first.

    I remember there was a guy who called him self a musician commented on this video saying Steve shouldn't be crying about the performance because it gives a "weird feeling and a bit exaggerated the song". Well, then, if your music can make hundreds and thousands of people burst into tears because of its beauty, and your self, the musician, don't feel a thing about your music, you have no emotion, that's all I can say.

    This is the only video on TH-cam that gets me even close to tears. I think because I was a band kid in high school, I remember what big special events like this are like, how much extra you have time you have to put in to get to a stage like this; and the time, money, & effort the money the parents have to put in. When I hear that theme at 2:17 it just feels like pure triumph. And you know the parents are right there and are the first ones to the standing ovation.

    Sadly, every time I play this song it is a bittersweet lane I walk down. I first discovered these artists during a time in my life when things started going right in my life after almost 18 hellish years of my existence through a girl I dated and became engaged to. My dramatic introduction to The Piano Guys comes via the first time an actual song moved me from tears from the shear beauty of the melody. Every time I come back across this song, another turbulent event has happened since before. This song, unlike all the other songs I can identify relating to in the last hellish 6 years of my life (I'm 33 as of writing), does not make me want to punch whatever speaker it comes out of.
    I have been through a nightmare where I went from my dream job and everything going for me, to a total loss of health, and living homeless and ever declining mental health states. Even right now I am having to pack up after finding myself homeless for the 6th time in as many years.
    This song can literally in my head bring me through all of the joys and horrors of the last 6 years which have been the most eventful of my life (in both good and bad, but mostly bad) and I can still hear the beauty through the heartache that I have associated with this song. I have been through a nightmare divorce, and can no longer listen to "Say something (I'm giving up on you)" without breaking down due to how my last marriage ended and what all that brought. Yet this song, no matter how much it hurts, the melody can comfort and soothe me. I cannot explain it. I have passionately put my heart and soul into a career that I was very highly knowledgeable in only to lose my health and dream career all at the same time. I am starting again with a new career in videography, photography and story writing, but even if live to 400 years old, I could never make the emotions flood out of anyone the way these artists have brought a 33 year old male to a child-like bawling status.
    This song has been the only one to withstand time, in which I can see the passion that playing it brings, and I can't help but to be fully hit by the beauty of this melody, the care and skill and love put into the performance, and the bittersweet past I have associated with this song. And I cannot stop playing it. I cry every time as memories and emotions flood back. Anger, betrayal, depression, loss, grief, ecstasy, elation, sorrow. I am hit with more emotions than I can even identify (being on the autism-spectrum makes this especially hard to deal with), but through it the ray of happiness, and hope, and determination hits me even harder. I see a person's passion resonate through me and if I could give these guys a hug, I think it would bring me the greatest joy in the world, to let them know that only the melody played through their hands. fingertips, skill and precision, could hit me in ways I cannot even begin to understand which even though it should be extremely sad with what it relates to in my life, can only move me forward towards a positive future. I do not need to see a formula, a break down, a critical exam to know that what they have done is art in it's purist form. Who cares if it's a cover/mix? I can listen to the original song from One Republic and not get moved like this.
    Piano guys: not sure if you read these comments, but you are a light and beacon for me; yet may never know. One that has pushed me forward and speak to me to soothe what's inside in which none of my closest friends have been able to do. You may not play your own notes, but you do own the experience. And that experience has helped me beyond your imagination. Because of you, I am learning to relearn an instrument I forgot how to play after a car accident and a traumatic brain injury. I am learning a new career now, and am realizing how the power of video and image and sound impacts, and to make music and video work together and the impact that the combination of multimedia can bring and have on someone. I want to be able to do that. I want to play an instrument that can make even the hardest of people drop to tears. I want to be able to do for others, what you have done for me.
    Your music has truly saved me. And for that, I am extremely grateful.
