Outdoor cremation is only done in this one town in Colorado in the US. And "Viking funerals" are sadly a myth -- the fire wouldn't stay hot enough long enough to do anything but drop a slightly charred body into the water to wash up later.

I've been on quite a few boats, and the first thing that's there as a warning is what to do if there's a fire. Not what if the boat's sinking, no, what to do with a fire. Fire is one of the deadliest things that can happen on a ship if it does happen in a serious way, even the metal ones. secondly, you can get a fire real hot real quick, you can have a minimum of floor material that _doesn't_ burn so the fire doesn't sink the boat fast, and whilst turning a corpse into dust lasts quite long with fire, turning it into essentially a human doner kebab without a stick is doable in really short times if you get a good fire going. Astronauts have died completely from fire in as short as 6 seconds with the oxygen turned up. Getting the fire to not break the ship for 3-5 minutes is definitely doable, and 1000+C from a big bonfire or faux-forge is mostly a matter of stacking and using a few non-combustible materials. So pretty sure you can char the corpse black all over mostly cooked before the ship even gets a leak.

Honestly I wish so badly that audiobooks came with a text ebook. Even if it was an option for a higher price 😭 I usually read ebooks, and I want to get into audiobooks so I can multitask, but then when I do have time to sit down and read … i’d prefer reading myself. I’d love if I there was a little button where I could hit “switch to text/audio”
I feel like I have found my tribe! I love audiobooks while working to settle the easily distracted part of my brain or trying to fall asleep because it is like being read to or told a story like a kiddo! Also, for books that are very -dense-, using Immersive Reading can help me retain the details.

If you check out ebooks from the library and put your reading device on airplane mode, the library can't automatically take the book back. If you're reading on your phone, there might be a limit to how long you can reasonably keep it on airplane mode, but it might do the trick if you just need a couple more hours and aren't expecting any calls. And often there's a way to renew your loan as long as there isn't a wait list for the book you're borrowing. Just a couple things to keep in mind. But I understand where you're coming from. :)

i was donating books with my mam and i have two copies of alice in wonderland, and i was deciding which book to donate. i told my mam “i can’t decide! what do i do?” and she said “i get it, just keep both.” mama gets it.
This is basically what I’m doing with my favorite book series. I don’t have all of the ebooks yet or any of the audio books but I want them. My one complaint thought is that the complete series has not been physically published yet with matching covers. With the final two books they changed the cover designs for all of them but the only place you can have a matching set is with digital books. Disney apparently bought the rights before the pandemic but who knows when it will see the light of day as there hasn’t been any news since then. If it does come to the screen then I might be able to get a matching set physically - hopefully in hard cover.
