Ok. Downside there is that a diff demographic (mostly mixers vs writers/producers) AND folks usually don’t want to upgrade as they fear their systems won’t be as stable - And no, folks don’t change up DAWs much - You are TOTALLY right and correct that they should have flashed features here 😢 - simplifying the line makes sense. I think many companies are trying to do this. Also the folks I know there are musicians and not trying to Rob anyone - fyi do remember they are owned by Fender now
I used studio one artist, as it came with it the audiobox USB 96 bundle with headphones, microphone, cable, and yesterday, got the email. From this, all I heard is that I will have to pay more for the software. I'm moving to reaper, and using the audiobox for it.
Exactly, I think Bitwig changed that because they saw that there's people who don't need all the extra of a "PRO" version (a very welcomed decision for all), Studio One is doing exactly the opposite... Even though I don't like the Bitwig model, at least they offers bug fixes and minor updates after your upgrade plan expire.
I told presonus to f off forever when they effectively bricked my audio interface bc they couldn't be bothered to port their ASIO driver to windows 11. This marketing reeks of a bloated, disorganized company.
I like working with Studio one. Hope they stay true to there product tough. 7 feels nice but i can hardly find some new shit in it. A suround delay i found as new plugin.
What's the difference between this and waiting a few years to upgrade after a few major updates on the old plan? What am I not understanding about this new plan?
I actually am considering buying Studio1 pro at some point as the pricing is coming into an area where I will consider it. Need to look into it more, if all the effects/plugins were not native only I would be totally into it. For $199 I am seriously considering it. As the bundled content and features to the architecture are not horrible. I was considering it bundled in with something I bought hardware wise as studio one often gets bundled. Still its GBs of samples and some other stuff. Bear in mind the price of one sample pack can be $20+ these days while plugins for 1 can be quite a bit so everything put together its not a bad deal at $199.
One positive thing is now they're promising time to time updates and if they don't people will chicken out from the daw tho again how useful those updates will be is the bigger question and only time will tell.
I am a long time Studio One user. This is why I will be sticking with my 'perpetual' version of V6, and using it until I move to Ableton. $149 for an upgrade to V7 and one year of 'undefined updates' is too much. $149 was too much for the upgrade to V6 last time IMHO and wasn't limited to 1 year of bug fixes/enhancements. Someone could buy an audio interface now that comes with Studio One Artist and pay only $50 more for V7 than someone like me who has been a Pro user for many years. I'm not checking out Studio One. I'm checking OUT of Studio One.
Sounds like my situation exactly. Upgraded from artist 5 to professional 6 for $150 with full updates. I’ll stay on 6 until it’s unusable before I jump into yearly upgrade fees on the same version I’ve really liked studio one but not enough for this
It sounds like they have to keep up with Apple, Microsoft and Linux changes to OS and Obsolescence of drivers and features. It sounds like they are highering more software engineers to keep updates coming quickly and with less bugs. I don't mind as long as they continue to support older products as well as new ones.
Patience? I've been a pro user for years. I already paid for this software. I do not want a business model where I need to pay $150 a year to continue to use it. They basically made a subscription model that is masquerading as the non-subscription model.
@@eddievanheinous666 " I do not want a business model where I need to pay $150 a year to continue to use it" Euhm, you can still keep using your current version....
ngl, if im going to collab with other artist since im a FL user, I'll just collab with them using Reaper, it's cheap, cost only buying a new video game price, and it has solid features already that most need for collabs, so I kinda recommend to a lot of artist there just to learn a bit of it.
This was definitely an interesting beginning of marketing for version 7. I've been using studio one since version 2 upgrading every 2 years. Something of note is I really liked having the option of the artist version personally. Since you're able to use vsts in version 6 artist, and can get a software license with a piece of gear, that was a great value. I'm torn on how to feel about what's advertised for version 7. I like that I can get a friend into a pro piece of software for a somewhat reasonable price, (looking at you Ableton) but paying for updates is an interesting compromise for the industries push towards subscription to Software. So yeah basically the new features better be good or for the first time I might wait on upgrading.
It should not be charged the same to upgrade for people on artist and those of us on Pro. That said it's awesome software and compared to cost of Avid Pro tools it's not bad. They are also still keeping the perpetual licenses. It's worth $149 a year.
i count that the abonnement/subscription is less money than pay to own the current cardianal version. so for me no problem... just pay my subscription - how they like - and they are "working for me" to support/develope studio one..
I've been with Studio One since the beginning and still enjoy the speed of it's workflow (though I also love and use Logic, Ableton, and Cubase). I was hoping little would change with Fender's buyout, but there's just no Creole-loving life with S1 anymore... just feels sterile. Some great features came out with S17, and I will personally use the Clip Launcher quite a bit (as I do in Logic), but Fender needs to breathe some real genuine spirit back into the S1 Team... Losing Rick was a big loss (Awesome gain for SSL though!).
Im still on Studio One 5 for the same reason as this nonsense. It was clear as soon as Fender bought Presonus this was going to be the path. I waited to see if v6 was going to be worth the upgrade. Ended up switching to Bitwig. Never been happier. I really do enjoy the workflow and features of Studio One. Just couldn't bring myself to support something that was clearly going to become a subscription based DAW. Figured it was better to rip off the bandaid at start with something new.
@@RP-mp4ow That might be the case. I've been going over the website and its still a little bit foggy exactly what is part of the perpetual license and whats not. If its just soundpacks then who cares. Maybe Ill come back to it if it really is only the sound packs that are part of the plus program. Never needed that stuff anyway.
@@amindamok i don't think they called it a + program, its just an upgrade subscription. So you get new updates and new features up to your yearly limit. So if your upgrade goes to until August, and they release x.8 in November, then you will have x.7 and all of its features unless you decide to buy a new upgrade
Not sure if guys understand what "perpetual" means: 1. You paid us in the past. 2. So, you'll pay 150 right now. 3. ...and then you'll pay every year starting from 2026. PS: Used to be a "perpetual" license owner. Bought it for $230 as _another daw_ was too expensive. What I get a year later PerSonus has no option to buy sound banks without subscription (basically, forcing you to subscribe for $20), and plus this news. Switched to the _other daw_ that has no subscription BS.
They seem to be switching to the Bitwig Studio model of licensing - buy a 1-year license and keep a perpetual version of the last update received should you not continue it. Maybe after copying the licensing they might start also implementing some of the tech that Bitwig is beating them on.
i purchased studio one 5 perpetual then i looked more into the studio one pro + plan and switched. no use in paying for an upgrade with limited items. with the yearly plan i have everything daw update/upgrades plugins samples and loops etc.. all for 165 a year..
At this point, I'm just here as a first time viewer and laughing at the comments 😂 To those who keep saying DAW is best and downplaying others, it is a TOOL, and despite my TH-cam name NOT your identity... Use whatever you like that gets the job done, and let others do the same. I, for one, am glad we have many choices to get our work done. Select the one that beat suits your needs and/or workflow, and move on.
Long time Studio One user here. No, we never asked for this so the "result of your feedback" is indeed bullshit. I am pretty sure no one asked for these changes in price and yes I am completely disappointed by the fact the first thing they had to say about v7 is price
Just get a bundle package with an audio device , it has studio one artist which is good enough , price is cheap enough , call it a day . 500 dollars saved , most people can get creative to accomplish the same workflow even with the oem version.
FL is king for life time of free updates. However prosonus being software daw would make more sense to charge a small fee like $50 or even $79 for every big update. So let me get this right they want to change $150 every year. So within 5yrs I would pay $750 crazy. They should had talked about some of the new features first. Also when in the hell are they going to update their rack central station. 😢
The guys in the video selling this don’t look particularly convinced themselves. I used studio one a couple years ago and really liked it, but then it crashed and wouldn’t work and that was the end of that. Coincidentally I was thinking of giving it another go because I do like to switch daws from time to time, but after seeing this add I don’t see much point 😅 I paid roughly 150 for FL and that’s all I’ll ever pay, so I guess I’ll stick with that.
Cubase / Nuendo 13 are more powerfull DAW on the planet. It have complex features especially in Midi, in mixer (Gain stage) that nobody else have it. And VariAudio flow and features incorporated in the track it s a bless!
They actually announced a bunch of features that studio one 7 will have as compared to 6: all extensions. That's pretty crazy honestly, no more subscription needed to get basically the "all plugins" version for the regular upgrade price amount. And sb else mentioned this: this is iterally the same update strategy as bitwig, and nobody seems to be complaining over there (and bitwigs full version is more expensive I think). So before v7 Studio one was sorely lacking in stock plugins and sounds as compared to other DAWs - while the workflow already was pretty much one of the best imo. Now with all extensions being "stock" it might actually be a way better deal suddenly. Gotta check those out though before we know for sure. Just saying: I don't see the probem - people who don't feel compelled to update don't have to do so
I think it's mostly existing pro users that complain about having overpaid before. Understandable, but as a non-Studio One-user the deal doesn't sound half as bad - as you say the Bitwig model, subscription where you can quit / pause anytime without losing anything.
Of course they did not mention any new features. The entire reason for this video was trigger the hate comments in regards to the pricing first, so they do not over shaddow the presentation of the new features on Oct 9th. Personally I‘m totally fine with the price model, since you can keep what you have and do not need to spend a single cent unless you want new features in more than one year from now.
They are really smart if you think about it. Instead of saying "We are changing our paying model" they say "hey new version, might look the same and work the same, but we will update it, sooooo..."
Perhaps that is the whole point not telling us so we can kinda go around and figure it out see who discover hidden gems about the new update. I don't know I'm just trying to see the good side of things 😅
It's basically what Avid does with Pro Tools, literally the same except for the fact that Avid does offer various versions of Pro Tools and PreSonus will simply offer one. In comparison to Pro Tools, it is cheaper and that's good! But it doesn't make me switch from Pro Tools to Studio One even if I wanted to.
Bitwig's base price is higher too, so the difference between a full license and an upgrade is more substantial than $50. Wonder if they'll have sales for upgrades like bitwig does, and also if they'll let you grab an upgrade key when it's on sale and then not apply it until you want to.
You can skip the plan and update on your own accord and they list a ton of features. Every update, even free ones always have substantial features. PreSonus is taking a page from Steinberg here - literally the same model that tanked them
I mean the upgrade price is BS and I can't tell whats new in 7 but other than that 200 isn't too big of a price tag for perpetual license considering Live standard is 440, and Live suite is 750.
hay all, studio one user here. trust me studio one 7 is gonna be one of the best DAW, the only bad thing about the video is the upgrading price (150$) for existing users. but its their job to make it worth upgrading , so yea, we will expecting some big f***** upgrades .
You dont need to upgrade every year. You can upgrade to 7, get its following years features, wait a year or so for an upgrade feature that you gotta have- and then psy for the upgrade. Then you get the past year, current year, and the years worth of upgrades. I really love the bitwig model. The upgrades are generally worth it. And with upgradings granularity, theres an incentive to make sure the upgrades are good

Cubase is a bit of a boomer DAW, but where else do you go if you want expression maps? I like the new Multi-Layer Editing in 13. Also no more dongle. I'm thinking about jumping on the Dorico deal too.
@@MastaGOfficial I've just gone with competitive crossgrade and anniversary discount. Great deal!
@@v0nklamke Same here. 179€. If they just would update the expression maps and add negative delays on each expression (articulation) Cubase would be the best DAW ever.
@@v0nklamke I did as well and cancelled my Studio one - much better deal
Ok. I think you’re BOTH right. 😂
A few thoughts:
- I hit like because imma fan, not because I have big issues with this
- I am a S1 user and it is a great “underdog” daw (more there if you want it)
- They are basically doing similar to what Avid did with Pro Tools where sub and upgrade folks get new stuff and others keep just what they have. Downside there is that a diff demographic (mostly mixers vs writers/producers) AND folks usually don’t want to upgrade as they fear their systems won’t be as stable
- And no, folks don’t change up DAWs much
- You are TOTALLY right and correct that they should have flashed features here 😢
- simplifying the line makes sense. I think many companies are trying to do this. Also the folks I know there are musicians and not trying to Rob anyone
- fyi do remember they are owned by Fender now
Reaper is the best Audacity upgrade.
I used studio one artist, as it came with it the audiobox USB 96 bundle with headphones, microphone, cable, and yesterday, got the email. From this, all I heard is that I will have to pay more for the software.
I'm moving to reaper, and using the audiobox for it.
Sounds like they adopted the Bitwig model...except Bitwig offers multiple versions.
And lists their features, tons of them
@@DashGlitch Yep...and many people don't upgrade with every new version.
Bitwig does not have a subscription model they removed it
@@SjarMenace No, but they have a yearly plan and you receive all updates during that yearly cycle. When the year is up, you no longer get any updates.
Everyone really wants to jump down that "lets be like adobe" rabbithole these days eh?
I really love my lifetime updates with FL!!😊
I like working with Studio one. Hope they stay true to there product tough. 7 feels nice but i can hardly find some new shit in it. A suround delay i found as new plugin.
What's the difference between this and waiting a few years to upgrade after a few major updates on the old plan? What am I not understanding about this new plan?
It depends how many feature drops they have and how rich they are. Technically you are paying like twice as much via the feature drops.
Presonus already annoyed me with their subscription. I’ve been using Studio One for 5 years and now I’m considering switching to Logic or Back to FL 😒
Consider Ableton
I’ve been using studio one for years too….i also bought Logic when I got my Mac mini and use both --will be falling back on logic since it’s paid for

@@cyborgmetropolis7652 studio One's workflow is more offensive than this update to their pricing model
Go and listen only to popular music bro.
Loved the ‘ran out mid-haircut’ shot and commentary.
They will launch the full thing on 2nd October at an event. It was just an announcement. Please have some patience guys.
@@eddievanheinous666yeah I’m pretty pissed off about this. I saw a new version was coming out and got excited until I watched the video.
ngl, if im going to collab with other artist since im a FL user, I'll just collab with them using Reaper, it's cheap, cost only buying a new video game price, and it has solid features already that most need for collabs, so I kinda recommend to a lot of artist there just to learn a bit of it.
Annual upgrade is the same as subscription
They make customers change.. I’ve been with them since the beginning
I'm glad they continue the Studio Reaper version though
I would have liked to have seen clip effect automation and modulation similar to Bitwig. No blown away by this update at all.
Comment at the 6:10 mark, is how I feel. Great work Weaver! Props
Losing Rick was a big loss (Awesome gain for SSL though!).
it's in infected with AI
Im still on Studio One 5 for the same reason as this nonsense. It was clear as soon as Fender bought Presonus this was going to be the path. I waited to see if v6 was going to be worth the upgrade. Ended up switching to Bitwig. Never been happier. I really do enjoy the workflow and features of Studio One. Just couldn't bring myself to support something that was clearly going to become a subscription based DAW. Figured it was better to rip off the bandaid at start with something new.
@@amindamok the licenses and updates are perpetual
Not sure if guys understand what "perpetual" means:
Maybe after copying the licensing they might start also implementing some of the tech that Bitwig is beating them on.
who TF is laughing at FL now 💀
FL is amazing at a few specific things but outside of that I can't stand the workflow
@@OctaveJuceWhy?
i purchased studio one 5 perpetual then i looked more into the studio one pro + plan and switched. no use in paying for an upgrade with limited items. with the yearly plan i have everything daw update/upgrades plugins samples and loops etc.. all for 165 a year..
At this point, I'm just here as a first time viewer and laughing at the comments 😂
To those who keep saying DAW is best and downplaying others, it is a TOOL, and despite my TH-cam name NOT your identity...
Use whatever you like that gets the job done, and let others do the same.

Long time Studio One user here. No, we never asked for this so the "result of your feedback" is indeed bullshit. I am pretty sure no one asked for these changes in price and yes I am completely disappointed by the fact the first thing they had to say about v7 is price
No update to consoles since I can’t remember when,I’m About to buy Behringer.
Buy this and then sub for the parts annually.... usual hustle today
Arguably, you are getting 2 upgrades for the price of one. 7 is one upgrade and then the incremental things coming after are a second upgrade.

Laughs in perpetual Cubase license.
In Australia it’s too expensive to buy -$300
Just get a bundle package with an audio device , it has studio one artist which is good enough , price is cheap enough , call it a day . 500 dollars saved ,
most people can get creative to accomplish the same workflow even with the oem version.
One more reason for me to stick with Cubase.
Reaper is based.
Never was a Studio One user but this is a bad decision in terms of keeping your user base away.
Damn, Studio One has prepared for Christmas.
The GUI looks like the Christmas tree in the White House. 🤣🤣🤣
I was just about to buy the pre sonus audio interface dodge a bullet with that one
Would be nice if Studio One offer amp profiling own amps.
Cubase / Nuendo 13 are more powerfull DAW on the planet. It have complex features especially in Midi, in mixer (Gain stage) that nobody else have it. And VariAudio flow and features incorporated in the track it s a bless!
It's just a money grab. They've had an absolute mare.
This was a fender corporate move.
Cubase 13 is the GOAT ❤
Just saying: I don't see the probem - people who don't feel compelled to update don't have to do so
That sure didn't come across in the video
Studio One is good. Not having all synths in Pro 6 felt like crap. They fixed it.
I dont see a problem neither and getting mixFX extensions "for free" is huge!! Im excited
They adopted Bitwig's update model
lol, yeah, pretty much, except Bitwig's update plan is more expensive but every year you can get it for almost half the price (around $100/129).
Bitwig's base price is higher too, so the difference between a full license and an upgrade is more substantial than $50. Wonder if they'll have sales for upgrades like bitwig does, and also if they'll let you grab an upgrade key when it's on sale and then not apply it until you want to.
The update model is the absolute worst part of Bitwig
You can skip the plan and update on your own accord and they list a ton of features. Every update, even free ones always have substantial features. PreSonus is taking a page from Steinberg here - literally the same model that tanked them
bitwig is actually implementing some great new modern features. S1 is lagging behind.
Reaper users. The vegans of the music production community.
More like carnivores.
BTW eat a dick.
Studio One killed my pet rock 😠
The DAW market is tough these days. People are going to legitimately question, “Does it write the music for me?”
Pro users are the ones getting middle fingered up their axxes.
I mean the upgrade price is BS and I can't tell whats new in 7 but other than that 200 isn't too big of a price tag for perpetual license considering Live standard is 440, and Live suite is 750.
What do people think of the Presonus interfaces?
This reminds me of when Gibson bought and ruined Cakewalk.
hay all, studio one user here. trust me studio one 7 is gonna be one of the best DAW, the only bad thing about the video is the upgrading price (150$) for existing users. but its their job to make it worth upgrading , so yea, we will expecting some big f***** upgrades .
