yup, but i can pill it over unlike the Jred 80 and Husky 298 as well. SO I get a mellow monster I can actually run :) And still get that heavy flywheel putt putt idle :)
i like the 200 series saws they just seem basic to work on and bet when that one is fixed it has plenty of tork my 272xp has more tork then i need i probly run it more then my 372xp
As far as the ignition goes, is it possible or practical to use one of those Oregon “chips” that were popular for doing away with points? I don’t know so therefore it’s an honest question.
Maybe, I put a seal in a pool of brake clean a few years back , took several minutes of immersion to change the properties. So the short burst as I did in the "short" has a negligible effect first of all, second I usually do the brake clean to confirm a suspicion. Premise being I expect to see that failure & bearing / seal is done anyway. So that entire degradation argument is much ado about nothing for most who do as I did there in my "short" on the 572 :)
@ All good points. I just know what I’m saying IS a true thing because that’s the thing with brake cleaner is it’s actually supposed to take oil off of at LEAST the surface, but depending upon materials porosity… It works well for any kind of friction surface like brake and clutch, because if those surfaces become oil contaminated then they will NOT perform properly and you’ll get “chatter” at best and quite often extremely poor wear. I’ve also seen it suck the oil out of painted surface to the point that those surfaces appeared to have been exposed to the sun for an extremely long time and they would sometimes even get brittle like they were exposed to sunlight for years. So end the end, I’m just trying to give some food for thought to viewers but not because I’m being a negative Nancy.
When you first fired up your 285 it brought a smile to my face! It really reminds me of a Jonsereds 80 firing up.

Walt you and Bob should do a John Deere chainsaw history show. Like who made them. were the saws any good ?
Walt, I know that you are most likely aware of this fact, but for those who are not: brake parts cleaner WILL suck the oil out of most plastics.
