- From the television broadcast on the San Francisco public television station KQED. I was always told this was from 1968 but apparently it was recorded on 20 September 1967. Some supporting documents suggested it was 1968.
Video begins with introduction and short tabla solo. Raga soon follows.
I was really looking for this wonderful performance of these two artists. It is unfortunate that Mohapurush left this world in very early-stage,and we missed him .....
Thanks for uploading....
Like his GURU Lt. Pt.Anokhelal ji
Pt.Mahapurush Mishra was not
only a phenomenal artist but a
Good soul. His sense of humour, way of talking, behavior, as a teacher to
his students were all a class to be
remembered. My GURU ji Late Pt.
Kanai Dutta and Ustad Keramatulla
Khan Sahib were the great admirers
of Pt.Mahapurush Mishra.
“We haven’t experienced the ‘Divinity’, but through the beautiful rendering of the ‘Sitar’ play we experienced divinity. I mean that so much of divinity we experienced by ‘Nikhil Bannerjee’ through his Sitar play. I feel that way. Greetings aplenty to him. I lived in IIT, Kharagpur Campus near his EFR Quarters and during evenings and nights I am fortunate to hear his sitar practice sessions at his home. (Quarters). In the calm atmosphere the sounds of his ‘Sitar’ play will reach our ears since he also lived near our EFR Quarters and with me that Sardarjee Mr. Gurcharan Singh lived with his family including his cow and calf. Those are beautiful reminiscences to me.” - “M.K.Subramanian.”
Simply astounding ! ! ! What incredible musicianship !
I have not seen God but i have seen Nikhil banerjee❤
You are blessed
If you have seen God in Pt. Nikhil Banerjee you yourself must be divine.
You really r blessed
Thanks for the quality upload. Every time I hear this, my mind gets filled with gratitude towards you Steven.
Excellent performance namaste. I had opportunity to see the program both of them. Also, Pandit Mohapurush Mishra visited our house so many times to meet my Father. He is a great personality and very polite and always in smiling face. My sincere gratitude pand Pranam🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤
Also, Many thanks to Mr Steven for posting this remarkable video ❤
This footage is legendary
Both of these artists shine the light into the divinity within us and all around us🙏
Congrats from KOLKATA.
You have nicely coupled your
Views on these Supra-mental
Artists. Tabla, the "Mithas Benarasi",
Sitar, the solemn " Maihar Gharana" -
mixed together, make a heaven.
Again I am asking people to tell the person who copied my post of this video recording and shared it on youtube as his own to take it down. He gave no credit to me who spent an enormous effort and money to not only locate, but to have this precious and rare footage preserved digitally so that it could then be shared with the world. When I asked him to take his post down he was very hostile towards me and he deleted my request from his comments page. In the spirit of and out of respect to Pandit Nikhil Banerjee he should not be doing this. Thank you for your help and understanding. Steven
Sir, may I ask where can I see your original post? I searched TH-cam and didn't find it. Could you perhaps send me a link? Thanks.
"If God had played sitar ,He would played with Nikhils hand" -je suis entièrement d'accord avec ce commentaire : si Dieu jouait du sitar, il jouerait avec les mains de Nikhil Banerjee
The cameraman of course didn't understand how to focus from the front so we could have a full frontal view of the performing artists. He has used all kinds of frustrating angles except let us watch in peace. Bannerji was a very sincere Sitarist
I feel old mic and music system had different era of sound agree?
Tabla sound is so beautiful
Dear Steven. You've done all of us a favour yet again. So many thanks. John
I'm grateful that you shared this recording. I had never watched him play from so close, for so long. I could not hold my tears. Ebullient.
And Pandit Mahapurush Mishra Ji. Oh dear. Oh dear.❤
Mahapurush mishra ji❤😢
The sound of the strings of Mr.Nikhil Banerjee is unique. It is pertinent to
mention that since listening sitar through radio almost all recordings are of this legend. His devotion towards sitar has given me pleasure to feel utmost.
A rear treat for Nikhilda's fans, full video recording coupled with his sublime performance, especially so old
আমার দেখা সেতার-তবলার সেরা জুটি, পণ্ডিত নিখিল ব্যানার্জি-পণ্ডিত মহাপুরুষ মিশ্র! # The best duet of Sitar-Tabla play, Pandit Nikhil Banerjee-Pandit Mahapurush Mishra!
The Tabla Solo by Pt.Mahapurush
Mishra reminds me his GURU Late
Pandit Anokhelal ji of "Beneras
Gharana" ( the doyen of Bolbani).
Keya baat, Keya baat !!!

Evergreen Legend of India
Thanks for uploading this video
Thank you for sharing this🙏🏻
Desh was adopted into our Carnatic music traditions. One not too popular composer called 'vaggeyakara' in Carnatic music circles Tanjavur Late Shri Shankara Iyer wrote a beautiful Desh raga song in praise of Lord Srirama that became popular. Desh has that patriotic sound as it pertains to the notion of Desh-hood, an India of all types of Indians who speak at least nationally accepted 21 full-fledged languages and countless local dialects. Huge country untied in one Indianness -- Desh raga sends that unifying message. Rainy raga with sprays of sadness as mentioned by that delightful American host of this San Fransisco recital[I live not too far from San Fransisco these days]. This is indeed a moving raga; Banerjee is brilliant at the alap[In S India it is "aalapana"] part; wait until he plays the song with tabla accompaniment. P P N Kanthikumar
Thank you for uploading the video ❤
47:56 insane dhir dir

Nothing to say. Beyond machine!!!
31:58 - 33:12 is a snippet of something that had never happened in sitar before Nikhil Banerjee and will not happen after him.
Pranam
Mahapurush Misra is playing some specific style? It sounds a bit different. I like it! Who plays tabla in similar way?

If God had played sitar ,He would played with Nikhils hand,
Pran jurie galo....tumi kemon kore gaan karo he guni .....
🤍🤍🤍 Divine
Yes really
Who is Ravi Shankar ??
❤❤❤❤😂😂❤😊🎉
who is better sitarist .. Nikhil ji or Ravishankar ji?
Nikhil ji
Both! ❤
For depth nikhil banerjee and for jhankar rani shankar ji
It's upto the listener. We are fortunate that we had 3 greatest sitarists at the same time, each with his own style and specialties.
What is "better"? They are one and the same. "When will men ever stop setting one thing against another?"
Wowwww.. What a speldid jugalbandi.. From 50:00
