Mr.Sonne just an idea for content is maybe teaching/talking about cattle weights as in these would be what are called 700lb er’s and there sold today for the feed lots or today we’re selling cattle for slaughter. I’m by no means a farmer or rancher but having grown up and still help with the farm. I’m sure guys like me will learn a ton and find it interesting. Between you and your dad y’all find creative & fun ways to do it.
Y’all are great, stay warm & be blessed!!!

Don’t let it get you down. That’s how we learn. People who never fail never do anything.
I have built my fair share of things that do not work out great on the first prototype. A bigger diameter shaft probably would be a good idea but if it would be easier to modify what you have you might be able to add a frame that would go up and over the belts and add another bearing on the end of the shaft to help give it more support. Would just have to make sure you leave plenty of clearance for the spinning belts.
We enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for another great video Cole.
    It was interesting for sure.
Cole I know you are disappointed in your bunk cleaning machine. But you had the right idea and did a good job of putting it together. Now just take a second look at it and redo your work and I know you will get it to work the way you want. We are all pulling for you on this project.
Looking forward to the day you got it redone and working good.
Know you will get it done
Just don’t get stuck again. Oh my.
Busy day for you and dad selling off a lot of beef cattle. Good going.
Thanks for everything Cole. You take care and be safe.

Hi Cole. I have a suggestion on your bunk cleaner. Instead of having 4 really long belts, cut the in half and attach them. So now you have a more even brushing action with 8 belts. They won't wobble as much because they won't be together. Turning independently. Just a different thought.

Very ingenious idea for the bunk cleaner. Add 2 more belts to make it 4 sided, it will be more balanced. Then cut and move the C channel further out so it will be centered in the bunk. Do not extend the shaft as it will surely bend. Just my 2 cents. So much fun watching your videos

Its shitty hard work, 24/7/365... Raised hogs, farrow to finish, 130 sows, all on concrete, hot nursery, 200' finish barn,,, Raising livestock is a bitch,,,, Farmed 1500 acres and had a soybean seed business.... Love the vids, farming to the core... Had the same relationship with my father, probably what I miss the most!!! Enjoy it while you have it!!! Hogs are way more manageable then cattle... love me some beef steaks though brother,,, thanks for what you do!!!! people have know idea what it takes to raise livestock!!!!

The first homemade attachment I made was a rake to level off the sand bedded freestalls on my dairy farm… I was absolutely crushed to see that 2 days of work were in vein when I realized in the first 30 seconds that I had built an absolute POS. I was so PO’d that I walked away from it for 6 months and then built an awesome version #2

After thinking about this, Cole. I would use extra long trailers mud flaps, the rubber ones. You will limit the tendency for them to wrap like your belts are doing and they will give a more scooping action to the process and as a bonus they're close to the right width of the bunks. I've spent 40 years running a scoop shovel!!!

Hi Cole, have you thought of building a bunk feeder plow that you can push the snow out the side that you clean were they stand to eat. I like your idea and all, but a bunk plow would be cool. Make it like how a bottom plow turns the dirt. It might be a thought, no pump, no hydraulic holes drop down and push. I'm like you always trying to find a better way.

The bunk cleaner is a cool idea, but I think that if you rebuild it, you need to use a larger round tube instead of a solid shaft, and then drive it through a flex coupler at the motor to protect the motor.
I once built a PTO shaft for my semi truck and used a solid shaft. Under load, that solid shaft would flex and bend, but when I replaced it with a tube, I never had another issue.
Also, if you mounted the bearing on the cleaner side out about a foot on a rectangular tube, you would be able to support the drive shaft right at the cleaner! and still be able to reach far enough into the bunk.

14:10 I know you have worked out you need a longer and thicker piece of rod. May I suggest a third bearing in the middle to take all the flex out of the flapper as if it is longer more flex will start. And if you could on the free side of the flapper put some chain to break through the frozen ice, it may also balance the flapper a bit more. Thanks for your videos. From Down Under

Don't be too hard on yourself Cole. Seeing that payloader struggle with moving that snow...your idea will work just fine once you extend it out 12-18 more inches. I would use a piece of 2” square tubing with 1/4” wall
Set it up with a hydraulic cylinder so you can move it 12” side to side. Put your shaft in the end of the tubing
That way you strengthen it up
and your shaft doesn’t have to be so long.

Cole, you might consider a second lock nut on the skid steer plate bolts. Otherwise, the bolts will rattle loose surprisingly fast. Also, consider cutting the C channel welds and moving it out further....it should handle it with about a foot of channel welded to the skid plate. Gusset the C to the skid plate if it looks sketchy.

good idea make it longer to fit the feed bunk of coarse thats going to put more pressure on the to small dia shaft and if you could find a round brush it would help everything love your show.

Cole, you've got a great idea going here. All you need to do is make a few adjustments and before you know it you have a marketable product. Maybe if skidsteers came with a side shift like fork trucks?? Beef from farm to the truck to the plate. That's what it is all about. I really hope you get a great price.

If there is a collar (bearing) on the spinning rod. It could ride atop the bunk line and keep the spinning bar make contact. Collar is not attached to anything. Is just a wheel.
This then provides the dimension your straps need to be.
Also slitting the ends of the strap would be more brush.
Idea with the collar is to know the actual or optimal length for the. Straps.
Cannot help but think of the brush used to clear snow off walks.

May I suggest that you start over on your flapper and use the pipe that you use to build your gates? At least 2" but 2 1/2 or even 3" would work fine. I have no idea if you can get pillow blocks big enough to use the pipe though.

Today was a highly successful day! Now you have the next set of information to make v. 2.0 of the Bunk Fwapper. Might be a good idea to make the next length of the shaft variable, extendable. Brian sold 164 head, nobody got hurt in the making of this video!

I agree, the whole assembly needs to be moved over at least a foot. You want that bearing as close as possible to the paddle and it would also get you away from the flying junk. I would also say that it should be at least one more belt with wider and three paddles instead of two will be easier to get into balance. You did good for the first draft, the power side is good. Just a few more changes which won't be that expensive.

Cole look at your brush mower you have for the skid loader they have a valve inline on the hydraulic circuit so the blades can free spin when you shut the auxiliary off. I think that would help save your motor seals and not have the sudden jerk off when you shut it off. You can plumb and H into the line with a one way check valve to accomplish this. It allows the oil to recirculate through the motor to slow it down.

I know you will be the bunk feeder cleaner upper fixed! Who knows, it might be a life saver. Maybe you need a torch too to go down and thaw the last part in the bottom that's frozen. That's what my son would probably add. 😂 😂 And maybe add a shovel/scoup to get the last down to the end of the trough. It's always fun inventing toys, I mean tools! 😂😂
Btw, I dont envy your weather at all. I couldn't stand it so cold, so long. My old bones would always be inside! We've had a bunch of weather in the teens. Makes me want to stay inside. 😊
May the weather warm up and you have a good 2024! 😊

that bunk sweeper.. I think the belts need some means of stiffening to prevent the belt from wanting to coil around the drive shaft. Maybe cut another piece of conveyor belt to double the thickness of the belt where it attaches to the drive to make it stiffer for the first foot of the root area. binding the extra belt to the original belt near the end of the doubled area might add a lot of stiffness too. Beware of slinging hardware off. When you brought up the fence winder the thought of using a coil of old fence instead of the conveyor belt came to mind.
