- The UK is braced for an icy blast, with temperatures set to plummet as low as minus 15C, as a fresh amber snow warning has been issued.
Snow and sleet began to hit southern England on Wednesday afternoon as the amber alert came into force with the Met Office saying further warnings are likely to be issued as the week goes on.

Colder it gets the more the government put the gas prices up so we suffer more
Did you vote Labour?
Spare a thought for the pensioners that can no longer afford to keep warm this winter....
None of us can lol
stop being ageist
It's not just OAP,s . Ordinary hard working people are also struggling . The Elitist shareholders gain a windfall whilst the poorest in society get a paltry DWP payment ! 😡
Yea, just skip over the homeless people.
Or none at all like many pensioners. @@Davidov1967
As long as KS, RR and the rest keep warm many thousands of elderly plus other people are freezing to death. RR needs to Give The Winter Fuel Allowance NOW. One of the worst winter and no heating for so many. As long as they are ok that is all they care about, then you have boat people keeping warm in our hotels that we pay for. It is bloody disgraceful . 😡🤬 We do need cold winters to get rid of the viruses however, think about all the homeless and OAPs who are all freezing.
good, we need it. Ticks were starting to overwinter in the mild, damp conditions and along with them the horrible diseases they carry. A cold snap clears out a lot of pathogens.
We do need cold weather to kill so many bugs, however RR has stopped so may OAPs having the winter fuel allowance. I can understand her not wanting the rich to get it however she could raise the amount to maybe £25k then people whose income goes over that cannot receive it.
@@janet3784 that's the problem with any cut off point, my mother used to complain that she was always a pound or two over the limit for claiming various help. When I was at school in the 1960's the limit was 3 miles for free transport, and we lived 2.8miles away, so I used to walk up the lane to the next bus stop.
My father always complained about having paid into his pension for thirty years, the 'charity' he ran an estate for put him in a retirement house, he said he wanted to pay rent so he could ask for work to be done on the property without feeling guilty so they charged his rent at his pension amount! But my parents couldn't get council rent help because on paper it showed his pension money, and benefits are based on gross.
I'm afraid it's always been the same-you either have to have enough money to support yourself and do the things you want to do, or you need to have nothing to get all the benefits you're entitled to. I feel sorry for people who struggled but got by, when the inflation rates rose two or three years ago.
I don't worry too much about the winter fuel payments, I just pray they don't end free prescriptions for pensioners because then I'll be about £80 a month worse off and have to cut certain medicines from my list. Oh and the bus pass is handy, I can go anywhere for free and have a day out.
So personally I'll get by without £200 a year, put it toward someone who really needs it.
You mean like pensioners, the homeless and the poor? Is your name Starmer?😂
@@notyourordinarygran hahaha, I don't think Starmer's turned his attention to ticks yet. Oh God, imagine; "We must stand up for ticks, the Tories had 14 years to put measures in place to protect the vulnerable, I shall appoint a Tsar for Ticks....."
No you mean London is set for some cold weather, and in January eh? Who would have thought it? You won’t give a toss about anything or anyone North of Hendon.
Cold in winter what the hell is that all about it will be hot in the summer next.
A winter being noticeably colder than usual is important. This could affect agriculture, and anyone particularly vulnerable to extreme temperatures, such as the elderly.
you are in denial of climate change catastrophe like the relic minded dino you are
oh please , storm in a tea cup, come on LONDON standard, local weather not irrelevant uk wide weather for ref -3c not -15c scotland
The butter on the crumpets will not melt .
time to start calling for an ice age again as was in the 70's
And people are paying more on their heating bills to keep it from getting warmer. You can't make it up.
Upset people in comments with weather news. How much can they handle?
This sounds based. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
Yes, it's called a 'cold snap' and apparently will last a whole three or four days.
@NogHenson It's not histeria it's the actual weather forecast.
For start if its cold schools should be closed because every child coughing and sneezing the flue virus going on it puts pressure on our sweet nurses and Dr 🌹 who are working so hard already
😂😂
as a caring uk gov dot con institution, tHE uK hEaLtH sEcURiTy agENcY are there to look out for your well-being, & as such suggest you keep warm, stay well fed & stick the kettle on.
assuming that you can afford it.
I hope so ! It's about time we had a good English winter ❄️☃️..essentially across the channel 🙏🏻🇬🇧🇮🇱🇺🇲
And there was me thinking he was talking about the UK. What's 'English weather?"
Free Palestine
It’s winter ffs …nothing unusual. Mollycoddling
It's not mollycoddling this is how they keep the " mass psychosis" going and if you haven't heard of that I suggest you might Google it
The filter has given me permission to write this entirely neutral and almost completely unrelated response to your original point.
We need to think about those who are not so fortunate

Good music choice.
global warming...HA
Climate change means more weather extremes... not just global warming.
And more control over us as Net Zero makes us poorer based on a climate hoax
@@maxe160 And this is nothing compared to the winters of my youth.
@@maxe160 and atmospheric CO2 has been much much higher in the past without globl warming/climate change/extreme weather
BTW this is not extreme weather...its a return to proper seasons
@@kwanchan6745 Don’t you think I know that. I wasn’t directly referring to the news article. Just trying to clear up the misconception still widely believed by many.
Yo "Icy blast" stop blowing ballons up...its winter you know, things can get a bit cold👍🏻🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Thank you
We seem to be having a decent winter for one.
Very hot I need some ice cream
It’s winter, nothing unusual about any of this. Why all the scaremongering bs?
What!!!!!! We had this weather back in the 4s and 50s, huh we just on with it on the north, life went on as usual, 🐔 chickens today.😤🙈🤪😩😪😮💨
Many in the North ran coal fires, and since they worked down the pits, they got that for free. Now, we are held over a barrel by large corporations.
Aaaaaaaaagh !!!! More purile hysteria from the media. Shut it !!
Welp time to build a Dreadnought and head North.
Those who know will know.
We're going to die, everyone. Us english aren't made to deal with that sort of weather.
Why keep going on about the snow, its winter, deal with it 😂
Just looked at my weather app….starts to warm up in a couple of days time! Until then I must endure 48hrs with a low of -2🤣
Do you know how short a time it takes for a frail pensioner to slip into hypothermia? No, thought not.
Winter is supposed to be cold. Wrap up and wear multiple layers. Yes, energy is expensive, but the Tories and Brexiteers are responsible for this. Take it up with them.
You mean 'the government', of all stripes forcing their climate agenda on us and the huge multinational corporate greed.
Recorded in Dalwhinnie on January 17.....its the 8th of January today. What is this BS?
Last year...
@@tom_kennedyyou’re telling me… the calendar resets every year?? Impossible!
Global warming
So global warming anyone?
Any advice on how to glue a hand onto an icy road?
Join just stop oil.
Greta said that the planet is burning 🤷♂️
Isnt the world warming up?
We have been there before. 1962 /1963 a freezing winter but we got over it. I was in a 1917 built barrack hut whith a corrugated roof in omagh county Tyrone and it was cold. One small pot bellied stove to heat the toom. We cut up fallen branches from the woods to feed the stove because we ran out of coal. In times of trouble you have to make do .everyone if you can get extra blankets to keep you warm. In the big freeze of 1946 at 7 years old i whent whith my older brother pushing a pram to collect a bag of coal from the local coal merchant for our flat in Holloway road north London. How many kids today who would do that.
The so called weather is not natural.
Bulshit
Another consequence of brexit
😂😂😂
"Global warming"
Did you never learn the difference between weather and climate trend?
@tubecated_development Did you? Weather is a product of the climate. So, it's cold due to man's making a difference with the climate according to you. It doesn't fit your bogus narrative about warming so you ignore yet another fact.
We’ve had far worse. Why is everyone panicking
