I just rewatched Trueblood and can honestly say Nelsan Ellis as Lafayette was definitely the most entertaining, beloved, amazing character. Nelsan Ellis left this world too soon. May he rest in peace. He gave us a character in a show that took us somewhere else in a world where we occasionally need to just be entertained and he did an extraordinary job doing that.💛
He was my favorite character on the show. Saying this as a straight man by the way. The character was so flamboyant and colorful and he played it down to a T there was no one else for that roll. Awesome performance on a great show. #RIP 🙏🏽

I get that.You can see him as an inspiration, because in his character not only he was gay and proud of it, but he was so openly himself in a town that was 99% racist. And he didn't give a fk, nor he let anyone bully him... And ultimately with his confidence and self acceptance, left the whole town no choice but to accept him for who he is. I'm not gay myself, but Lafayet was my favorite char in this show by far! If he was a real person, i would easily want him as my best friend.

I was never really a big fan of Tru Blood, but Lafayette was my favorite from day one. His character, at least in the first two or three seasons was awesome.
Nelsan Ellis was the most underrated actors i have ever come across. I would have bet anything if he would not have died his career would have picked up in a huge way after true blood. How could it not?

I'm nearing the end of Season 5, watching the series after Nelsan's death, and missing his talent. He was amazing in this show, one of the best characters. I had never seen this clip before today, and it just shows how incredible his range was, and how quickly and how well he could drop himself into this role. I only know a few gay people, and none of them as flamboyant as his character was, but they agreed he was outstanding in the role. I guess there couldn't be better praise for his portrayal of a gay character. The world is a little darker with his light extinguished, he died far too young.
