My recommendation is to avoid Positano in August. I imagine that applies to any of the beaches. Italians and other Europeans take an extended vacation in August (extended at least by US standards😊) and many like to hit the beach. Positano is a cliff side town so it has narrow passage ways and the beach is small. It gets very crowded and difficult to navigate. Add super hot temps and you may find it uncomfortable. This was my learning experience 😂. I definitely want to go back but maybe in April or September. And Mark is spot on with the vomit bus warning. Just be prepared.
Awesome showcase! The Amalfi Coast is definitely on my to see list! Thank you for all of the other destinations as well! Your videos are always top notch!
Agree. A cruise ship with shore excursions is also a great way to go. We flew by helicopter over Pompeii, Herculaneum, Mount Vesuvius and the Amalfi coast on the way to Capri for lunch at the Grand Hotel Quisisana for lunch. Skip the blue grotto and tour the museum/home on top of the hill.
Great video, the whole region of Campania (Naples being the capital) is incredibly dense with natural, and historical beauty: the area of Cilento in the far south is a hidden gem with paradise beaches and forests, Caserta in the north has the imperial palace, the Amalfi coast.. the islands..oh man.
Thanks again for your video! We were in Paestum yesterday, and it is a marvel! BTW, I believe the correct pronunciation is more like pestoom for those interested. It's an absolute must see!
Trieste is great, and left out of guidebooks. Lots of history, lots of great restaurants, lots of beauty. Also, the karst region of Slovenia is right there with excellent caverns.
We were there in May and stayed in the city of Amalfi. Loved it! Quaint, less crowded and MUCH less expensive to stay in than Positano. We got around by ferry mostly...a little more expensive but quicker and you can enjoy the view while in transit. We had to take the "vomit comet" bus one time...no one threw up on our trip, but it was May so it wasn't as hot. Still a tough trip. The coast is pretty but the accessibility issues dampened our enthusiasm for a return visit.
Definitely, as always, very good examples shown. What could be added are for sure the other two islands in the Gulf of Naples, Ischia and Procida. Obviously the Vesuvio or the city of Salerno. But yes, in Campania there is really a lot to see and experience. Definitely one of the nicest regions of Italy or even Europe.
I'm going to visit ischia this june! Really looking forward to it and i hope its not complete tourist madness as some other places in the region. Any recommendations?
Thank you for the video. Are all day trips similar in april and summer? Im interested in the trips to capri and positano but the hot weather would spoil the fun for me. Are the trips to grotto and so on done also in april? Also the boat trips in capri?
Mark, you have just thrown another great travel idea into our 2024 plans. Thank you. We've been to Pompeii and Naples in 2010 as part of a Mediterranean cruise, but that only provided samples not savors of the area. Questions: 1. In the first shot, were you fanning yourself with bruchetta? 2. Was the shot of the statues rear end on purpose when you said Pompeii was covered in 'ash'? Sorry... its how my mind works😂 travel on! Steve
I would avoid Positano in general. We stopped there on our way to Pompeii, and it’s extremely touristy with restaurants and everything made for tourists (overpriced and low quality). The entire city of Positano is basically a large gift shop. Be aware, too, that the tour guide told us Positano is the most vertical city in Europe, and I believe it. Everything is uphill, and I only found one public bathroom in the whole town (and it was half a euro for a dingy toilet). It makes sense that Italians don’t go to the Amalfi coast, unless it’s on holiday from Northern Italy (also as per tour guide).
One thing that i'm not sure about is,that i want to visit Amalfi from Naples for a daytrip next month, and i planned to go for a swim, but because i am traveling solo, what can i do to keep my belongings safe while i go for a swim and enjoy the sea? Or is there lockers on the beach that i could rent for the day?🤔 I would be suuper thankful for anybody who could help me out with this one!🙏 Because it will be my first time going to Italy, and traveling solo as well, and i heard that theft is sadly a pretty big thing in Italy
Yes. I was just there. The Villa is open to the public and is a 15 minute walk from the center of Pompeii. Do not exit the park to get to it because there is no entrance near the Villa. You must enter the site of Pompeii then walk to the Villa. You can, however, exit the park at the Villa and walk down to the train station which is nearby.
For those who are on the hunt for burial sites of the Apostles, Amalfi's Cathedral has the relics of St. Andrew.
Sorrento….so beautiful and quaint ! ❤
We stayed in Sorrento and did a couple amazing day trips: Pompeii and Herculaneum, and Paestum. Two days I'll never forget.
Thank you Mark.
Brings back memories.
I visited Pompeii in the late 1960s and would be happy to go back - hope I get to make a return trip.
They have a lot more uncovered now. Would be cool to see it again to see differences

I’ve been to Capri, absolutely breathtaking when you go to the top. The view is incredible.
Gorgeous views there
Ischia is my favorite place down there! 😍

Thanks so much for this! Planning a trip here and love your input!

Great 👍🏻 i was in Trieste one month ago, amazing and not sorry far away from Graz/Austria 🇦🇹🤘🇮🇹
Trieste is awesome

Vico equence.... Great town
Been there last week. It was incredible.
Great video! Thanks
Going Rome in January watched all your videos on that 👍 this place looks amazing
Ciao, hanks for sharing

In 2006 I ate the most amazing lasagna in Pompeii. I love Italy

This is all true.^
Hi Mark, have you flown with Spirit Air in the US? Are they good?
Another great and entertaining video, thanks mark? What is the more affordable base? Naples or Sorrento?
Naples has more affordable hotel options but sorrento is probably best for day trips
One thing that i'm not sure about is,that i want to visit Amalfi from Naples for a daytrip next month, and i planned to go for a swim, but because i am traveling solo, what can i do to keep my belongings safe while i go for a swim and enjoy the sea? Are day trips from Salerno not recommended?
Love this!!
In Pompeii, is the Villa Of The Mysteries open to visitors or is it restricted?
Do you have a Sicily or Aeolian islands video?
❤
did u eat the town dry when u was there wolters
You look sunburned, how hot was it ?
Ferries between the towns on Amalfi are a good way to avoid the vomit buses. The buses are also infrequent and inconsistent. Do not recommend Sita bus
The local pronunciation is more like CAP-ree rather than cap-REE. I'm sure it has to do with an American car model of yore.
> pompeii
> sorrento bus to amalfi , vomit hot bus
