      How was it? is it a keeper? Planning to buy one. I already own an Apogee 96K mic but thinking how a large condenser would sound like.

    Just bought this model for voiceover work secondhand. Sounds fantastic so far.

    GREAT Demo/review! I love how it was short and to the point! Curious, what is the signal chain for the Bluebird?? (preamp, converters etc...) I'm thinking of getting one!

      +lukesuperflyjones Thanks. The preamp was a Universal Audio Twinfinity (solid state) going into Apogee Ensemble (the firewire 400 one) converters. I didn't put any processing on the signal aside from a limiter to get the volume up. Good luck!

    Sounds like you left the snare on when recording the bass.

    do you use a preamp? or is it straight to the interface? lets us know, thanks for the review.

    • @seandaniel23
      @seandaniel23  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Straight into the apogee interface preamp.

    i'm looking into a bluebird microphone, but what separate pieces do i need besides the actual mic? (the chord, the stand, etc.) and where do i get all of this equipment?

    • @seandaniel23
      @seandaniel23  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yup, you'll need an xlr cable and a stand. And then if you don't already have one, and audio interface that hooks up to a computer.

    I would say best sub $500. The Bluebird is an awesome mic.

    Hi, Sean and everyone! Have you or have someone ever tried out MXL 2006? If you have, which mic do you think it's the best: BLUE Bluebird or MXL 2006. Thanks!

    Is the signal saturated when the blue bird is used in "proximity mode"? Like snare/overhead/high gain amplifier/etc ?

    • @seandaniel23
      @seandaniel23  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +pié b I have had it blow up a little bit on high gain guitars before, but very rarely.

      +Josh Blixt It's just a matter of time before every metal band uses a Bluebird on their Triple Recs.

      +David Cote Nope, everything you're hearing it totally flat, albeit going through a Universal Audio preamp.

    That mic is under $300 for real ?

    • @DapperDanLovesYou
      @DapperDanLovesYou 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Carmen Ciricillo Even the best mic plugged into half-decent equipment will sound half-decent. Oddly, your pre-amp and A/D converters are far more important!

    • @snippletrap
      @snippletrap 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +thebikerack Nonsense. The mic accounts for most of the signal.

    • @VideoMenu

      I've been hearing that preamp and A/D conversion are less important than mic and treated room.

    • @bluehole6019
      @bluehole6019 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DapperDanLovesYou This is an awful take. Nobody should take this advice. Even the most seasoned of engineers can still have an extremely hard time telling the difference between different A/D converters, and most of the time the difference is to negligible for humans to actually perceive. As far as preamps go, some preamps sound better than others, but there’s no way that buying an expensive preamp over and expensive mic would be a worthwhile investment. Good mics first, THEN good pre’s.

      @@bluehole6019 MKBHD has an amazing quote for tech: "Good stuff is getting cheaper and cheap stuff is getting good."
      The single most important part to any recording chain is the Analog-to-Digital conversion. Mind you: getting GOOD conversion in a home studio at a reasonable price is EASY in 2021. In 2005, it hardly existed. A lot has changed for home recording in a short time.
      The Second most important part to any recording chain is the room. The most expensive gear in the world recording in a nightclub bathroom will still sound like a nightclub bathroom.
      And then a microphone is third.
      People often hear this and defensively respond: "So a microphone isn't important?!?!" Which... no, of course it is, don't be daft. But a $99 Shure SM57 can sound absolutely stunning when plugged into a quality recording system in a well-treated room.
      But a Neumann U87 running through a Scarlett 2i2 in your bedroom will sound... decent.
      And while treating the room can make that combo sound much better, it will still only sound as good as the Scarlett 2i2 can muster.
      A good engine is far more important than tires. And while tires, in a racing scenario, can give you the edge you need... high performance tires on a Smart Car will not win you any races.
