  • In this video Steve shows us a way to use an ear slap (Happah Ken) followed up with a groin kick to defend against a knife attack. When Steve is showing it in slow motion he has his right arm down. It would have been better up in a guard position to be in a better position to guard against a possible secondary left puch. When he speeds the technique up you can see how this would flow better in real speed.

Hi! How to get in touch with your organization?

This technique is not reliable. The defender does not control the armed hand. And he can get another knife blow after any of his actions.

One does not need to control the armed hand for a technique to be effective. If I pull out my gun and shoot you for example. I’m not controlling the arm with the knife but it’s still effective right? By the way Steve is able to control the arm hand in the technique but it was not pointed out. A trained martial artist should be able to spot that.

@@InstinctDefenseAcademy The only way the gun has a chance, is if its already drawn and you the distance to use it. Up close the knife has the advantage. That is why the police have the 21 foot rule against the knife.

Terrible idea in real life. This only works because they are not actually trying to get you and retain their dominance. You have no real control of the attacking arm the whole time.

Hi Ian thanks for your opinion. You are incorrect in your assessment. This technique is not dependent upon controlling the attackers knife hand. That mindset can actually get you killed. Many martial artists get focused on the knife and ignore the bigger picture. There are however many ways to control both the knife hand and the attacker at the same time. Those require higher levels of training. But one must master the basics first. Keeping in mind the basics work just as well if not better as higher level techniques. Best to you on you martial arts journey. Remember It all starts with respect!

@@InstinctDefenseAcademy You think not? Get padded up and try that against someone who is intent on attacking you. Try that method again. If you think what you did was going to work, i worry for you. with all due respect to you mate.
A knife is a dangerous weapon. Its not like a bare handed fight here.
Its not about focusing on the knife, its about controlling your opponent and the arm with the knife, (since the knife can kill you and all.) Or they will freely move it. Like i said, pressure test your defense and show a video of it still working and then i might believe your method works. Or least put in the video, this is not intended as a realistic defense in your video warning.

@@senseiSinclair yep this has been pressure tested and it works. Glad to show you in person anytime you like brother. Bring your pads with you.

@@InstinctDefenseAcademy Maybe after the Covid settles down enough to safely travel we can test your pressure tested methods mate. I don't think anyway the method you used in this video being viable. I will bring my padding, make sure you have some for yourself too.
We don't want to hurt each other too much in proving the points made.
