7/5/24 (electromechanical) Gieskes A4988E & Starving Binary + DSP 808 + ALM Pamela’s New Workout

  • I’m not sure what to call the Gieskes A4988E. It does percussion, and here it approaches bass line territory. In this video, Pamela’s New Workout is triggering everything and controlling the pitch of both modules. It triggers the DSP Synthesizers Vintage 808 module, drives the Starving Binary clock divider, and triggers the clock input on the A4988E extremely fast. The spring is on top of the moving motor, which is getting its direction input triggered, and that’s why the motor goes back and forth. A trigger goes to the vactrol input too.

    What is the purpose of the spring?

      @@alreadystillagain (I think) the module has a contact mic that hears the stepper motor as it moves, and it also hears the spring. When the spring is on the moving part of the motor, and something is driving it fast, the spring makes a sound as it slips off the rotating motor. You could probably experiment with other things on it than the spring. I’ll make more videos with this module this week using audio rate signals to drive the motor.
