    Kudos for mentioning Alan Lomax. He doesn't get nearly enough credit for his amazing contributions to American popular culture.

    • @retromusings
      @retromusings  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. His life and his passion to record all those folk songs in the US and around the world are phenomenal. What a legacy and thank goodness all this great music are in the US Library of Congress' music archives. It's great to meet a fellow Alan Lomax fan. I have a few of his albums and cds. They are wonderful.Chris Strachwitz of Arhoolie Records is similar. He also went and sought to record obscure blues and folk music in America too. Sadly, he passed in May 2023. Thanks for stopping by and

    The Moby album made my list also. If you haven’t heard he has remade a lot of these songs on his last 2 albums They are beautiful. That is the best Spinners albums. 70s soul was amazing with Stylistics, Delfonics etc…. Also good to see BAD. Nice eclectic play list

    I am subscribing simply because of the variety in your selections. I appreciate people who have eclectic tastes. For me, music is helpful in setting the mood, or enhancing the mood that you’re in. If I am in a certain type of mood, maybe Bach will be perfect. Other days, perhaps The Dead Kennedys are more suitable. It’s nice to have a choice that can fit, no matter how you’re feeling. Thank you for sharing your list, and introducing me to some new artists!😊

    I was lucky enough to live in London for a few yrs late 80's early 90's. I foolishly stopped buying vinyl in the 1980's in a transition from audio cassettes to CD's. I think back to the treasure trove of European vinyl that I had access to if I wasn't being so pig headed!! OMG, all the great UK & German pressing's of Beatle albums ect. Oy! The music I remember most from that time was The Pet Shop Boys, Lisa Stansfield, Seal and Unbelievable by EMF. Madonna of course was still a huge sensation. (You can see where my head was at) Anyways, I'm new to your channel

    Wonderful to see Pat Metheny mentioned in your list along with the amazing Gabor Szabo. They seem to be generally overlooked in the vinyl community that seems to focus mainly on rock and pop music. You've got awesome eclectic taste that's for sure. All your videos are great.

    Just came across your channel today, and given your eclectic taste I have subscribed. While not a hardcore Pat Metheny Group fan I like "Last Train Home" a lot, a very evocative track. My favourite albums of his are a couple of mid-70's albums "Bright Size Life" anď "Watercolors", not the least of which is because of the bass players on each of those namely Jaco Pastorius and Eberhard Weber respectively. I look forward to seeing more of your collection

    I am British and, like you, I've often mistakenly thought Moby is British - I think the reason, for me anyway, is because I often confuse him with Fat Boy Slim (Norman Cook). They both had huge songs in the 90s, in similar styles, and It's like my brain is hard-wired to confuse the two of them. Some great choices you've made here - I'm listening to the Pat Metheny as I write this and enjoying it very much!

I didn't know what movies the samples came from until much later, when I got on this Clint Eastwood kick, and found so many of them in the 3 westerns he did with Sergio Leone, especially The Good the Bad and the Ugly. Great selection. I love the BAD album, one from my teenage years I had the poster from the album on my bedroom wall😂. It sounded unlike anything else when it was released, I think Donn Letts played a big part bringing the sampling to the overall sound. What an eclectic and wide-spanning music taste you have, not too dissimilar to mine although I tend to stick to the more ‘mainstream’ performers, but still very much late 70es, 80es and some early 90es. Just like you I always find myself discovering some music I simply missed and glazed over back in the day, Spotify is a godsend for that. :)

    Thanks you! Really enjoyed learning about your taste; love how it's broad but selective. For Gabor Szabo, you may want to check out "Nightflight," aka his "Philly soul" album, a collaboration with the likes of Bunny Sigler (producer), Raymond Earl, Scotty Miller and Dexter Wansel (basically, Instant Funk). For me, "Keep Smilin'" is the winner; its extrapolation of William DeVaughn's classic "Be Thankful" gives the smooth groove an extra dose of fun.

      @retromusings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. I have "Nightflight" and couldn't agree more with your assessment of this album. "Dreams" was produced by Gary McFarland who worked with Bill Evans.
