    Dude i love that your videos are so long! Fuck what all the "experts" say.5:00min and under is not enough time to properly review a product and convey the necessary info to a potential buyer,keep it up.

    Love the amount of detail and effort you put into each review. Really helps the consumer with the decision process. I almost picked the MSI x99 Titanium but after seeing your review I decided to pick up this instead. Thanks!

    Got one, love it. Epic board. The Safe Boot button has saved me so much time overclocking. Top notch fan control with the extension card. Running a 4,4ghz 6850k. RGB fits great with my black-white with blue lights build, no more red! Third Rampage board I have owned, probably won't be the last :)

    This board is so pretty and i love it that i am really thinking about building myself an x99 system with this a pair of 1080's(may wait for Ti's though) and a i7 6850k with an ultrawide 34"
    Especially with my new job in a few weeks time, after i save up a bit since it's been about 5 years since i spoiled myself.

    Many have complained about the price and I would like to recommend the ASUS Z170 WS for proven durability and performance.
    Even with the PLX chip and superior caps it is much less..........!

    Motherboards should never be over $250
    I usually buy a z board for $150, where I splurged on an Asus Z97 Pro w/wifi/bt for $220 twice because the feature set was worth the price, and it was aesthetically pleasing and matched the 770 Classified 4gb very well. I was able to flip those fast

    Hi,
    I have two graphic cards in my computer, one card is x16 and the other x8.
    I have two hard drive samsung 950 pro 512gb. One is inserted into PCI express 3.0x8-4 slot, the second one inserted to M.2.
    The hard drives work at 100% speed perfectly.
    When I put one hard drive to another PCI express 2.0x4-1 slot hard drive works 50% but the two graphic card are x16 and x16. What can be the problem?
    I have motherboardRampage 5 Edition 10 and processor i7 5960x msi x2 gtx 1080.
    What is sli/cfx led swith and in what way should it be set up?
    Many thanks,
    Jack

    Those DAC specs are easily outperformed by almost any DAC in the $100 area.
    That USB cable that comes from the motherboard and going to the DAC/AMP is not even shielded against EMI and RFI.
    Motherboard manufacturers will never understand what is quality sound. They don't understand basic things that shielded cables is a MUST in audio, even on USB which is digital. A shielded USB cable will make a night and day difference. I recommend a good shielded USB - USB cable that comes from the rear of the MB into the expansion slots (or other hole) into that 5.25 inch cage with DAC/AMP..
    External cards like XONAR STX are outperformed by $70-80 external USB DACs so imagine the sound "quality" of this ROG Rampage 5.

    "Get it on the 5GHz band if you can, if you can't get a better router." Or knock some walls and ceilings down in your house. 5GHz is much more easily attenuated than 2.4GHz, and has much smaller range. There's a reason good routers are dual band, and not just 5GHz.

    i have a question, im upgrading my pc atm (price isnt an issue for me) so i want to know your imput as im intrested in this MB and the maximus viii extreme, the rest of the specs r:
    1- I7 670k processor
    2- H100i
    3- 16gb ddr4 ram
    4- 1tb samsung pro
    5- sli gigabyte 1080 gtx extreme
    6- lan wired to the pc from the router
    7- connected to a UHD 55 inch curved samsung TV
    which MB between the 2 would you recommend and what else that needs to be changed aswell if possible.
    thanks and best regards

      Not mad but someone with alot of disposable income. I happily paid 350 for a R5E last August and considered that good value for money. At 499 this new board is (in my opinion) poor valuie for money as I dont see value where the extra £150 haver gone, unless its on that DAC - Tom did say that it would cost £150

    The problem with 5Ghz is it has shit penetration, so if you have double brick, or thick stone walls good luck getting signal from anywhere but next to your Access Point, 2.4Ghz has MUCH better penetration and can give semi reliable coverage in most conditions.

    Great video. I bought one last week (absolute beast i must add) and haven't had the time really dive into the settings and never owned a x99 board before. Is it a thing with these boards being really slow in boot time? Mines nearing the 60 seconds range even with a Samsung nvme m.2?

    Why are we getting only single M.2 on X99? Z170 boards have up to 3 for RAID0 but with the extra PCIE lanes on X99 why not include 3 M.2 on this flagship product?

    • @SGTSAS
      @SGTSAS 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      why would you asume that he would use it for storage?? Such an idiotic comment.....

    • @GizmoDuck
      @GizmoDuck 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. I noticed the trolling is strong with that one in this discussion.
      However I do agree with Jason Cooper. I would have really liked the extra M.2 on this board. However With my Samsung SM961 512GB NvME M.2 coming, and my current RAID0 Intel 730 480GB's hitting over 8k seq Read AND Write. It's not to critical of an issue.

    • @GizmoDuck
      @GizmoDuck 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      /begin Burn
      Lets look at the facts:
      /begin Facts
      1.) You claim he's going to use the RAID0 for Storage. (It's clear this is an assumption on your part)
      2.) You were replied to by saying it was idiotic to assume this was for storage when that was not even said. This reply by SGTSAS was 100%
      3.) There is a DIFFERENCE between using RAID0 for STORAGE and using as a BOOT/OS DRIVE, which 99.9% of system builders will use RADI0 for.
      Now I have to go on a limb and make an assumption, which will no doubt be rebutted by you. However anyone reading the history on this discussion will clearly agree
      1.) You know damn close to NOTHING about PC system building, and you're making 100% asinine comments making yourself look idiotic.
      /end Facts
      As for your second question:
      I have no idea, maybe you should go ask an engineer at the companies that produce the components. That would likely be the intelligent thing.
      /end Burn

    • @jasonk8311
      @jasonk8311 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was making a comment on a hard drive, I'm not sure how else one would use it other than for storage. I suppose M.2 drives could be used as an expensive bookmark.
      Anyway, I think PCPer provided a great review of M.2 raid0 and the benefits are clearly stated but we are seeing it only on Z170. Sure one could use a riser but is there something unique about X99 that is keeping manufacturers from providing multiple slots? X99 seems like a much better platform for for this though especially from the target audience who would actually buy it plus the extra pcie lanes. Probably this is the wrong place to look for answers though.

    This board has far too much bloat that no one will actually use or want and as a result the price is ridiculously expensive. Buy an A II board for half the price and have 100Mhz less overclock and you will never notice the difference in real world usage. Use all the cash you saved to buy a better GPU or CPU and you will definitely see a real world difference.

    This is a solid X99 motherboard. I own the Rampage 5 Extreme so I won't be upgrading as it would be pointless. The price of £499 is an absolute ripoff though, I paid £350 for my R5E last August and since its more or less the same board I would like to see ASUS justification for charging so much more for this. Great board but very very poor value for money

It seems you just watch his content now, so that you can whine and complain about how mobbed-up he's now _(only)_ in your eyes. Is that a hobby or a fetish of yours?

      As I said, I never had a problem. Why should I have one now? When it's built, we'll see. The case might take 3 weeks to get here from L.A. to B.C. then shipped to me in Ontario and the mobo, haven't seen it for sale here yet, could be a couple weeks.

      dude ive went from an 8350 to a 6600k, fps in most games was about 10 to 15 higher but no random dips or spikes in performance (that was 290 xfire), i wouldnt say the 8350 is garbage but if your spending £500 on 2 cards and £230 on a case, then you clearly prefer form over function

    It's to bad ASUS doesn't put the effort into having the Software and
    Drivers on their it updated to the most current release. If you try to
    do a clean install of Windows 10 x64 on this board and then install the
    current ASUS AI Suite 3 utilities software they have on the ROG Rampage V
    Edition 10 page YOU WILL GET A BSOD over and over again caused by
    IOMAP64.sys. THIS is being caused by a old version of DIP5 (Dual
    Intelligent Processors 5) within the suite itself. The fix is going to
    the ROG Maximus IX Formula utilities software page and use it's updated
    version of ASUS AI Suite 3. YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO DO THIS. ASUS
    START UPDATING YOUR DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE PAGES!

    Asus Strix CF 480 Doom Vulkan TSSAA vs GTX 1080 pleaseeeeeeeee, if you're not NIVDIA driven, that is.

    • @forestR1
      @forestR1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      "if you're not NVidia driven" -that's a toxic comment. Tom is a good honest reviewer, hell, most reviewers on YT are; they just get slapped with accusations whenever things don't go in favour of either brands respective fanboys. and Vulkan is great! it's results in Doom are great - but what would that prove? that CF 480s make AMD the king ... of a single game? - don't get me wrong, I'm interested, but for curiosity, not some lame pissing contest

    • @Dobermanator
      @Dobermanator 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      forestR1 Well that was a hella hoopa for nothing. I have GTX 960 & I7 6700, no AMD. Most reviewers are honest? Honest about what though? That they tested a reference Card vs an Overclocked AIB? Sure they are honest about that stuff, up front even. But is it being fair to all manufacturers, OEM's / AIB's? And that's the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the kinds of tomfoolery that many "reviewers" implement (not TLL that I've seen). Although I watched TLL for years, I'm not certain if he is or isn't protective of his relationship with NVIDIA to be honest, but the stacks of NVIDIA stuff behind him left enough doubt that I slipped that comment in. I will retract it, and apologize fully, once it's proven I'm out of line. I don't care about just NVIDIA or just AMD, I can care about both. I want both because I want to buy the best Card for the lowest price and the only way that occurs and continues to happen is if both are successful and treated fairly.

    I have just bought one of these for an upgrade I'm building and it is utter RUBBISH!!! Build quality is way below average, they decided to place protective plastic wedged in between two very tight (less than a mm thick) heat sink areas above the I/O shield and the tab that's supposed to help you remove it pulled away leaving plastic still stuck. Also the lack of USB headers is a joke, this is supposed to be an enthusiast MB, not some cheap mid range board! And the cherry on the cake, the earphone jack on the "quality" DAC is so loose it bends when you plug it in, it's only a matter of time before it breaks. Should have gone with the equivalent Gigabyte or MSI. STAY AWAY! waste of 900+ AUD.

      Mine also went bad over a month ago. I'm still trying to figure out what got rekt but I have no idea since the lights come on, fans spin but I get a black screen. I have no idea if it even POST's so right now I'm just a sad parts swapper. I RMA'd the PSU, GPU, next is CPU and RAM. If the last two don't cut it then I guess the cables, M.2 SSD and even the case.

    • @rock962000
      @rock962000 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      LonghornRed :( I'm sorry to hear that. I know what you're going through. Literally an hour or two after it happened to me today, I submitted an RMA to Newegg for both my motherboard and CPU. Shipping them out tomorrow. Did you RMA the actual motherboard though? I've been reading all day on this board and the amount of issues it's having with people is crazy. Also, look at the official website, they are pumping out BIOS updates too which is a sign. Don't be surprised if they do a major recall of the ROG STRIX X99. As soon as I get my replacement back, I'm selling it.

    • @rock962000
      @rock962000 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      LonghornRed Also, check your Q-Code (It's the red 2 digit code that will show up at the bottom of your ROG STRIX X99 board when you boot up) I was getting "00", which is said to be "no CPU detected" but officially, the manual says 00 code means "Not Used"

    • @midtown3221
      @midtown3221 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      rock962000
      I meant to say that I also RMA the board too. As for the Q code I've also been getting 00. Sounds like it rekt my CPU if the 00 really means no CPU detected.
