Varanasi: A Journey through History and Time | Sapta Puri: Episode 1

- Varanasi is a city with numerous names. Its ancient name was Kashi - the city of light, and is often known as Shiva's city Rudravaas! Varanasi is also one of the oldest living cities in the world and a trip here can change your life.
I’ve been to Varanasi many times, and this time I took my family along, especially my mother who’s always been keen to visit the place and the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Of course, we did a lot during our four-day stay there - ate some amazing local food, spent a lot of time on the ghats, explored local stories, visited Sarnath and immersed ourselves in this city of light.
I’ve gone into the details of the history of both Varanasi and Sarnath from an archaeological perspective to find an answer to the age-old question - how old is Varanasi? I hope you'll find the answer here.

Your videos deserve so much more love!! So beautiful and soothing!
Thank you so much Mahika! 🤗🤗
Excellent documentary on one of the most ancient cities of Bharat as well as of the world...
Thank you! Every time I go there, I learn new things - more videos to come from this amazing city 🙏🙏🙏
@@SiddharthaJoshiFilms I also learnt many things from this ancient city, its culture, its peaceful atmosphere, and its survival through the ages...Once I used to visit Varanasi twice every year, but things changed after Corona...This city inspired me in many ways.
@@SiddharthaJoshiFilms There are many good things in Varanasi, but the bad thing is that it no longer serves as the intellectual centre of Bharat, which it once was ( except few good edutional institutions like BHU, Jaipuria Group of Schools etc )...but as a Brahman from Kolkata, I found its ancient and medieval intellectual tradition "dead" and "vanished", like most of the traditional cities of our country.
You are right - the city was a centre of learning for eons and we certainly don’t see it now. I’ll hopefully be able to cover this and a few other aspects of the city in later videos 🙌
@@SiddharthaJoshiFilms Pls cover the famous ghats, baba keenaram sthal, and sankatmochan hanuman temple in your next episode...they are all historically important ! And also Ramnagar Fort !
Very well presented! The editing the information and everything was perfect! Appreciated! Keep going brother

Kaal Bhairav, Markandey Mahadev, Vishalakshi Shaktipeeth, Tulsidas Mandir, Durga Mandir, Swarved Mandir are few places in and around the city that you can experience too.
Yogis cafe, Sparrow cafe and many other such small, cozy cafes are there in the same area that you can explore. Since, I know you like Cafes a lot, like me.
Thank you for all the suggestions - these are great, especially the ones about the cafés.

Amazing project, we are based in NY and found your channel by fluke and its been an amazing experience watching you and the amazing places you’ve taken us, can you also please let me know what the Shivoham Shivoham artist is singing in your videos, I am looking for that track, while there are many versions this is absolutely the best one. Our best wishes to you and GOD BLESS YOU!!🙏
Thank you so much for the kind words - you made my day 🙏🙏❤️❤️
I’ve linked the track in the description below. It’s from Artlist and you’ll find it in my Varanasi playlist.
And if you’re in NY please know that you have a brother here who will host you and show you our city and the Hindu temples in NY and NJ

How much cruise charge....?????
Hello!
You already have one more subscriber and I just realised I was following you on Instagram.
Congratulations on your channel, you make high quality content.
In August I will go to India, and I have doubts about how many days to stay in Varanasi, more than 10 years ago I was there, but it was a quick visit of 2 days in which we also visited Sarnath so this time I would not repeat.
I am a photographer and apart from visiting again the Aarti ceremony and the puja in the morning, I really like to do street photography, do you think that 4 full days in Varanasi are too much?
If you know of any interesting places near or in Varanasi, please let me know.
Best regards Cristina!
Thank you Cristina!
4 days in Varanasi isn’t a lot at all - there’s a lot to see and shoot and it does take a while to get into the pace of the city and become a part of it, so your plan is fine.
It’s hard to give a list of places to shoot in a comment, but I believe an online search will give you good spots. The best way is of course to walk around and discover places. The morning Ganga Aarti on Asi ghat is new and not many people go there - that might be nice to capture too.
@@SiddharthaJoshiFilms Thank you for your quick response, I am more confident after reading your comment. As for the places I was referring to places like the one you told me about the Aarti ghat, so great.
Deena chaat bhandar jana chahiye tha aapko vha banaras ka best chaat milta hai
Yes I did hear about it - next time pakka 👍
ap drone permission kese lete ho aur konsa drone use krte ho
This’ll be a long answer - I’ll try and make a video about it 🙌
Bhai Mathura Bali video upload kr dooooooooooooooooo
Yes soon - will start working on it this weekend 🙏
Your voice resembles a lot like chef vikas Khanna.
Aha! Thank you 🤗🤗
Lord Bhairava all mighty Shiva please help me in life and allow me to go to Varanasi please. Har Har Mahadev!!! Jai Durga Ma!!! ❤️❤️❤️🕉️🕉️🕉️🔯🔯🔯
I’m sure you’ll visit Varanasi - it’ll be a great experience for you 🙌🙌
😊
Although the video is nice, I just wanted to add something, Kashi chat bhandar serves very nice chaat, but it's about how adaptive and versatile your taste buds are, and it also depends upon the expectation you have from the food. For instance, in this case I felt you tried to find the chaat that resembles Delhi's chaat which is why you were disappointed. But, the thing is the product might be same in different locations, the way it'll taste will be very different and you cannot be too rigid in that case.
Now, I agree that sometimes you'll like new things and sometimes you'll not, but it's better to not speak such things out loud, especially on social media, because in a way you are calling thousands of people who like places like Kashi chaat bhandar to have disappointing food choices.
Happy vlogging.
I don't disagree with you on this, and I did think about whether or not to share my thoughts on the food. We went there based on the recommendations of our own family members, and frankly, the food wasn't bad at all. The disappointment was only because of how much everyone had talked about it.
As a traveller, I do like to share opinions about foods and experiences, and I think it's better to do that than just be neutral about everything. I'm also clearly not a food vlogger or expert, so my opinions are just that and nothing else.
I would love to visit again and if you have a recommendation about what's good, I would certainly try that too. I'm not rigid on my opinions on food at all :)
how old are your mom mausi and mausa, thinking of taking our parents too
They are in their early 70s…
sir wanna learn vlogging like you how to start ?
Well I’m a newbie myself - can’t possibly give advice to anyone new! The only thing I would say is to simply start and with time let your style develop…it’ll be a journey 🙌🙌
