ACCA APM Responsibility Accounting (Cost Centers, Profit Centers, Investment Centers)

Hi, I work in AP for a Material manufacturing firm and sometimes we process Non PO invoices related to medical services our employees get. They are all charged against Profit centers.
My question is why Profit centers, is it because they work to create products which in turn are sold for revenue ??
