Absolutely fascinating - thanks for posting this. Taken the year before I was born. Much has changed, but perhaps a surprising amount remains the same. Comical 80s hair do and jeans at the end!
Thank you for this, I was on a honda scooter 1986, I knew there was less traffic back then, I was surprised to see people were still road hogging, and pulling out in front of you even then, I would have said this was a new thing,
Great video of a past and maybe better Haverhill , the Cambridge road certainly was far more enjoyable to drive in 86 . Entering Cambridge city , well it has changed drastically , many of the buildings have long gone along hills rd , I worked in and around Cambridge from 2012 -2018 , driving most of the time around the filmed area . My only disappointment would be not panning the camera so the viewers can see more of the landscape , thanks for posting this time capsule .
The initial idea behind the video was to then speed it up to make the journey appear to happen in just three minutes. This is what I did, and I called the video "The A604 Bullet". I had kept the rushes of the original recording and thought it would be good to show the journey at its original speed. The camera was quite large and connected to a portable VHS video recorder. The camera was mounted on a tripod which I had to hold onto to keep it steady while my friend was driving. I was determined that no car would overtake us, as that would spoil the illusion of being the fastest thing on the road. No sound was recorded in the car as I knew music would be added later.
@@cuedotfilms4427 many thanks for your reply , of course technology was different back in 86 , today its no problem to record a journey . I appreciate that you actually decided to record and so doing bring back many memories . I was born in Haverhill , went to Place farm school , Parkway , and castle manor , spent most of my youth in and around this town . In 2018 I finally left and moved to the Czech republic .
Really interesting to see this. I largely remember both town and city from this era, amazing how much has changed (some significantly!)
Wow thank you for recording this back then. Way to many road signs now
Enjoyable video brought back a lot of memories; 1986 to 2022 Haverhill has moved forward quite a bit.
Thank you for sharing. Was a couple of years before my time but great to see what it was like back then.

I absolutely love these videos of the 80s in the UK, I was 15 at the time this was filmed. Thank you for taking the time to post it.
Thank you for this great video of Cambridge
I see that's over 40 years ago but City looking very vibrant and lively but woow what a time travel ❤❤❤
I lived in Cambridge at this time - wonderful! How good to see so many cars that actually look like cars - and plenty of 2CVs too.
What are they gonna look like, sausages?
@@bobsmith3291 ugly generic clones of today. You can hardly distinguish an Aston Martin from a Ford Focus.
Great memories thanks for sharing this video 👍
Thanks really enjoyed trying to i.d. the vehicles. Saw a few that I owned/ drove Allegro, Escort Van , Vauxhall's .
Happy memories.
Few more potholes nowadays 😅
Great video!!! Thank you for sharing.
I didn't realise just how much Hills Rd and East Rd had subtly changed until now.

Awesome video!

Hills road leisure center area is barely recognisable

Not one pothole to be seen!
Yeah, crappy video quality! Only joking. 😂
