    At 11:07 you are facing a red brick block of flats, that land used to be occupied with Mt Pleasant Church back in 1970. A tall church with a huge spire. I used to attend Sunday School there back in 1962. Hastings, it's all changed for the worst since the late 1950's.. Next to Elphinstone Road where I lived (Number 144) it used to be called The Boss or the Pilot Field. next to that were rhubarb fields, behind the Boss was St Helens woods (which in those days really was a wood) And all around there were fields with cattle and sheep. I was born in Beaconsfield Road in 1954 when we had coal delivered to each house, we also had rag and bone men with horse and carts. In the late 1950's life was so much simpler then. Milk bottles at the doorstep, no processed foods, nothing in plastic, milk at school, fresh bread, butter.. We played on the pavements till 9:00 pm and we didn't lock doors. I remember when it snowed at Christmas Eve in 1963 and we had 4 feet of snow at the front door.. Hastings stopped that Christmas the same as the rest of the UK.. Thanks for posting.

    Thank you for uploading this video - born an Hastonian, lived there for the first 18 years of my life, it was interesting to see parts of Hastings not usually seen. I can remember many of the 'new' buildings in this video being built (esp those next to the very old ancient church near the ridge) and the ?Dawn & Dorset? washing factory that used to service all the local big hotels with fresh linen,etc. The family talk was very nice as well, as already commented below, the language and tone is very nice to hear. I hope all in the video are still well. Kind Regards, Al.ze.

    What a delight !!!. How lovely to see Hastings and St Leonards in 1987, its late October and just a few weeks after the great storm hit the southeast, me and my parents were about to move to France and were in Tunbridge Wells within a week of this being filmed , my sister and her family had just moved to Emmanuel Road shortly before and little did I know that after living in France for about 9 years I moved to Hastings myself in 1997 just before commencement of demolition of the cricket ground in Queens Road. What memories, I've now lived in Hastings and St Leonards for 26 years and you passed my current flat at Marina on the way to West Hill Road MF I .Thank you so much for sharing . Glad the kids are good and my sister is Joanne too !! .

    I was born here in '84, so weird seeing you drive through the centre - I remember it being like that, but for most of my life it's been pedestrianised. Great video!

      Yes it seems like that, but in London it was pretty rough and ready.
      1987 seemed quieter.

    I was 8 in the video, born and bred in Hastings. Remember the town very well in 87. So many happy memories, wonder what me and my family were doing at the time of this recording?
    Life seemed simpler then and so much more fun, take me back, i hate the way things are now. Gameleys and Woollies, me and twin brothers favourite shops, toys toys toys😂. Great video

    I can't believe I haven't come across this before. We were house hunting in 1987, 3 bed semis were hot potatoes. It was a rush to get back to the estate agents, pen in hand, if you found one you liked. Luckily we found ours and moved in during August of that year. (Very close to the areas you covered.) THank you for the memories.

Let’s hope the mfi building that u mentioned gets demolished with the other houses , awful position for a commercial unit ..

    If I heard the car conversation right? They seemed to think that Hastings becomes St Leonard’s to the west of the pier! The separation is at the Grand Hotel where Burdens Arch used to be!

    • @Afroleon90
      @Afroleon90 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They're correct, to the west of the Pier is St Leonards.
