The fake suicide prank might have been based off an identical stunt by Ricegum, though that might have been released later. The biggest offender at the time was someone by the name Sam Pepper, who produced classics like "getting kidnapped and killed in front of my friend prank," or something. Although this culture is almost entirely gone, with the Paul brothers probably being the only popular remnants despite starting years after the trend died, there are still some interesting artifacts left in common culture. For example, if you've ever heard the phrase "it's just a prank bro," that's because it was the most popular tagline after epic "pranks" like pretending to steal a stranger's wallet or other atrocious acts on strangers (usually actors). The phrase was memed so much in disdain that the community could no longer call their stunts pranks, and thus called them "social experiments," which is also a phrase you might be familiar with. This is definitely more context than needed, but I hope you or someone finds this interesting!
After reading the comments I decided to explain something about this video because it feels like almost nobody gets it. The pranking guy doesn't approach the problems he has in a serious way, he just continues to prank his girlfriend with destroys their relationship. Because of tomska's great acting you can see that he understands that he is loosing his girlfriend but still isn't able to be serious, because he's scared of them. The last prank shows it in a great way. The message of the video aren't the pranks, it's about evading to work on your problems and about closing your eyes when you see them, lying to yourself (he acts like she's still his girlfriend and says it multiple times) that the problems aren't existing. Sorry for any mistakes I'm am not a native speaker. I have to say that this is one if the best videos tomska ever made.

That must be so fucking annoying man, like you could upload a selfie and get the exact same response from people right now even though this video was full of so many scenes, props, outfits, actors and After Effects that probably took weeks to write, rehearse, film and edit. Well with the rate at which he posts videos, to the world it seems he went from average weight to above average in a blink. But either he is freaking hilarious and will continue to be my favorite comedy channel. But personally, I'm surprised.

However, taking into account some of the more recent uploads on Tom's "DarkSquidge" channel, it occurred to me that there *may* possibly be a deeper sub-text buried under the primarily humorous content - whether accidentally or deliberately. I also noticed the question in the video's description ("Are you thinking yet?"), and wondered to whom it is addressed: the TH-cam "pranksters" (the most obvious targets), or another audience? Interestingly, Tom also recently Tweeted the exact same question - with no links or explanation. Of course, he was probably just promoting this video... although it was the only one of his (several) Tweets advertising this video which didn't actually mention the video at all. Still, what do I know... I'm probably entirely wrong, and this is just another example of Tom's keen wit and sharp satire :)

yeah, he was saying that people who act like that and treat real living people like shit for a paycheck probably would not be missed, since they would drive away all loved ones with any kind of social empathy.
***** Agreed: this video can certainly be interpreted exactly as you describe... as ever, Tom's spot-on when it comes to satirising worthy targets, and I'm sure that he fully intended the video to be understood as such.
However, taking into account some of the more recent uploads on Tom's "DarkSquidge" channel, it occurred to me that there *may* possibly be a deeper sub-text buried under the primarily humorous content - whether accidentally or deliberately.
I also noticed the question in the video's description ("Are you thinking yet?"), and wondered to whom it is addressed: the TH-cam "pranksters" (the most obvious targets), or another audience? Interestingly, Tom also recently Tweeted the exact same question - with no links or explanation. Of course, he was probably just promoting this video... although it was the only one of his (several) Tweets advertising this video which didn't actually mention the video at all.
Still, what do I know... I'm probably entirely wrong, and this is just another example of Tom's keen wit and sharp satire :)

I'm also very very overweight and I've been bullied throughout my entire life for it. I'm also overweight (by like 80lbs) and I can say that being overweight essentially is synonymous with unhealthy. I defy you to live an honestly healthy lifestyle and be overweight (unless the weight is from muscle mass). It's not possible.
