I generally agree with your comments on oil with one caveat. On cars without a proper filter you would want to find a non-detergent oil. Modern oils have a detergent additive which keeps particles suspended in the oil until it gets caught by the filter. On older cars without filters, the non detergent oil will allow the particles to rest at the bottom of the sump out of harms way. Using a detergent oil will mean the particles will just keep going round the engine. The most common non-filter engines you see today are air cooled beetles (there are filter kits sold) and they work fine with modern detergent oils as ling as you don't keep it in the engine too long, as such expensive oil kept for longer periods in these engines is not good. Love the Goddess and the videos!
I doubt very much whether the oil is anywhere like 60 year years old! When these were held in EFS stock by the Home Office and then the ODPM until the mid-00s they were all serviced on a regular schedule every 3 years or so which included test runs and replacement and upgrading as required. I have all the servicing paperwork from mine from 1991 onwards and it's fascinating the amount of work which was carried out on them so that they were ready for anything. I use Morris Lubricants SAE 30 in mine.
I may have taken liberties with the title... in reality this oil is probably around 5 years old. That’s great that you have the paperwork, wish I could say the same. I won’t get into the oil debate, different strokes I suppose. Anyway thanks for the watch and comment mate.
Morris 30 was the EFS / HMG / TNT/ NATO specified oil for these. But 20w/50 is the standard especially if pumping for sustained periods or long runs as they get a tad warm
I believe it is a K11 filter. I got mine from BygoneBedfordBits (stick it in google). There is a guy called Norman who runs the shop, he is not cheap but he knows his stuff. I think I paid around 17£ for the filter. You can also buy oil online (Mine was from Amazon, there is a link in the description). I am assuming you are in the UK, but if not I am sure Norman will post internationally. The Exact filter I used is: Alco MD-057. Best of luck mate.
Another brilliant video @perksauto 👌🏻 that’s another job I also have to do on my goddess is oil and filter, stay safe and please keep making these videos 👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻 Jon morgan
Thanks Jon, appreciate the support. I will continue to make the videos, but I can't promise that I will be able to reduce the amount of tangents I go off on when discussing the Green Goddess. Keep me updated with your GG and thanks for the watch.
Fullers earth is great for oil spills, if you are unsure where to get it, most corner shops sell it, Happy Shopper Cat Litter ;) I use it all the time.
Hi mate thanks for the watch. I think I mentioned fullers Earth but then had to edit it out as it turned into a full rant about oil spills 😂 I didn’t know the tip about cat litter though. I will definitely be using that in the future. Cheers.
Part the reason you might be struggling with nuts and bolts is you’re using metric tools on a vehicle that uses imperial or AF fittings. You might get away using ‘wall drive’ style metric sockets. Hope that’s of some help. Great work though otherwise!
Thanks for the tip, I was hoping to get away with not investing in a set of imperial tools but it has become apparent during the last few videos and hours unseen struggling that I’ll have to open the bank. Thanks for the view hope to see you on another video soon.
PerksAuto if you can get yourself a halfords trade card (you will need to prove you’re in the trade) you can then get 50% off the professional tools range, which come with a lifetime warranty, they do a 150 piece set which includes metric and imperial sockets, impact sockets, 3 different ratchets, all sorts. Comes in around £80 with the discount. You also save a fortune on batteries, oils, bulbs etc.
I was waiting for a comment like this, great spot Bill! I am trying to use the original tools I have for as much of the work as possible, hence why I first used the adjustable wrench which is clearly not the ideal choice. All I know is that 32mm worked for me without stripping or damaging the head. I may have to invest though. Thanks for the view, hope to see you on the next video.
I enjoyed this however, disagree about the oil. The more vintage the vehicle the more money you should spend on the products going into it. My Green Goddess is my baby and I treat her like one, love and affection. Try it?
Can i make thumbnails for you.. I really make good thumbnails give me a chance I can make samples.. How to contact you sir.. By the way awesome video quality

Nice now I can change my oil on my green goddess and now I can see how you did it and get mine finally done after 13 years
Glad you found it useful bud hope all goes well.

Enjoying the videos, any chance of a test drive video? Do you have the correct license to drive it on the road?
It’s on my list of to do. I regularly take her out and about. It’s driven on a standard B license.

Thanks for this, I did not know that programme existed, definitely worth looking into to.
It's certainly not 32mm. Try inch and a quarter AF. There won't be many metric threads on that thing - time to invest in imperial sockets!
