Thanks for sharing this. I use the Mini Trangia cooking system when I need a lightweight system. I have not tried a wood burning stove yet, but I suppose I should get around to doing so. Thanks again and looking forward to the next video.
Cool stuff. I use an Esbit set that works with solid fuel or alcohol and it works pretty well (www.amazon.com/Esbit-CS985HA-Lightweight-Trekking-Anodized/dp/B001UEL76Q). But temperatures here in Italy is not that low ;)
I have the original Snow Peak solo mini cookset, I love it. It nests all together with a 40oz Klean Kanteen, I ended up getting the 2nd gen, as well as the SNOW PEAK TREK 700 to nest with the other 40oz klean kanteen. I pulled the trigger on 2-450 ml toaks as well as the 750ml with no bail.. I needed to replace those stainless steel GSI nesting cups(They are now in my kit for my car) and I needed to get decent cook sets
Just ordered this 1.600 ml. cookware kit and you have just reassured me that I made a good purchase. I was looking for a kit large enough to fit my Tentock Camping Cookware Outdoor Windproof Cooking Pot Stove Set inside of it. I just don't like the idea of cooking in aluminum cookware for health's sake. I plan on only throwing the stove portion inside of it and cooking in the Toaks 1,600 ml. titanium cookware. This way, I increase the cooking capacity, all the while using a safe cooking metal while still keeping everything in a compact unit. The light weight isn't the reason I bought this set, but that's just icing on the cake. Since I won't be using the pot part of the Tentock cookware, I'll be able to store all my fire starting gear inside of the larger titanium pot as well as some other odds and ends. Frankly, I'm surprised the price for such a large titanium pot and pan set isn't much higher. From the looks of it, I'll be able to use the Tentock stove with the included alcohol burner, or as a wood burning stove which would give me more options.
Toaks also makes a Ti wood gasifier stove. I nest the 450ml cup inside the stove inside the 1100ml pot with lid and bail inside the 1600ml pot with bail and the pan with the 1600's lid under the pot. But I decide how much of that to leave before I go. They also make an 8"± (20cm) plate which could double as a frying pan using Mike McQ's improvised stick-handle.
Nice review of the toaks products. But what was over the top was that you enjoyed a meal that was hands on and not just a review.A meal in the woods and worked for tastes soooo much better, spot on!
I use an Esbit 750 Ti cup/pot. Except for the bail it looks identical to the Toaks, to the point where I suspect they are made from the same dies in the same factory somewhere. The only thing I miss with it is the lack of measurement markings. I dealt with that by putting small notches in the side of the handle of the spoon I carry. One notch for every 200ml. (when stuck in bowl side up)
Living Survival It's odd that the feature I like best is the shape of the handle. When drinking hot beverages, that bend in the bottom to hold your third finger means being able to enjoy your coffee without having to worry about burning your knuckles if you relax your grip. Silly, I know, but it's just comfortable to drink with.
Nice gear. Btw, if you're missing tongs for frying your bacon in the woods chopsticks are cheap and lightweight. Plus they can replace a fork if you like to carry a separate one.
An easier way to cook your eggs is to boil some water (snow), which you did, break your eggs (leave whole or scramble) into a heavy duty freezer bag and then lower the bag into the boiling water. They cook pretty quickly and there's no mess. Simply rinse the bag out with the leftover water and reuse. You can also use this method with chopped vegetables, either raw or cooked (softened), scramble some eggs or put them in whole and mix them in the bag by stirring the ingredients or sealing the bag and shaking, put bag into boiling and cook. Instant omelette.
Gonna have to get the Toaks Fry Pan Pot set. I've got the 750 ml Cup/Pot and love it. I got hungry watching this one. You need to warn us! For some reason food cooked outdoors always tastes better.
thanks for the review Ben it helped me make up my mind , looks like ill go with the kit , let me know if you think there is a better set up at around the same price hope all is well atb john
Thanks for sharing,as im in need for a cookware set,,i bought a coughlin set last spring,,stupid me put it on a fire, and melted the handles,,oops,,but it didn't have a bail, which I really like
great review and kit Ben very nice i really like the 750 ml pot very multi-use ! just the sound of bacon cooking made me hungry , mighty fine breakfast Ben ! nice complete set ! atb john
Hi, I've enjoyed your vid. Pots aside, that's not a survival meal but an culinary orgy !!!!! ( Mine is envy, of course). Thanks for sharing. By the way..... Great titanium pot set
Is the Isle Royale Jr. a good pack? I wanted one for awhile, but seeing that it had no waist strap turned me off of it. would it be suitable for long hikes?
Is there any special way to clean the titanium? If the titanium is put on an open flame, the bottom can get a bit black with char and stuff I am guessing. So, do you just drop in water and scrub that stuff off?
bet they tasted perfect. pretty don't mean tasty . hows titanium for food sticking? clean up? been ponderin gettin me some o them titanium pots...they just cost so dern much ! i always used aluminum or stainless ,...served me well. good video, one thumbs up. 477
Hi! It looked Luke you were kneeling in the snow. If you were wearing snowboard or some weatherproof coveralls, could you tell me what brand or" style" name? Thanks.
I am in the market for skillet/cookset for solo one or two nighters and would like your opinions as you have tried and had some experiences with many brands. Thanks!
Great video. What do you suggest as far as longer sporks that can be used for the MRE meals? I can't find one that is small enough to nest but long enough to get in the meals. Thanks.
You did not show filling the pot with snow... DID you add water to the pot before filling it with snow? To all noobs, always add a little water to your pot before you add the snow for melting. Snow will scorch if you don't.
what is the proper way to dispose of the bacon grease etc, when out in the woods. I don't want to lug it around then home but I don't want to contaminate the environment either. Thank you
Living Survival oh cool, I wasn't sure if it was acceptable to do so. I always leave the area as if I wasn't there but yeah I'm sure the animals would love it.
750ml pot with bail, the smaller one is like a 400 or 350 can't remember and the large is the 1600 with lid. I thought about the 1300 as well which I think nests in the 1600.
Frying an egg on anything non-stick is a pain in the butt. How'd the Titanium fare as far as "Stickage"? I'm assuming you used the bacon grease for the eggs..because..yum.. :-D
+Living Survival awesome, I've found the video and watched it, looks great. I'm currently building a cooking set up, but cannot afford any brand names (when added together the whole set up would usually surpace the $150 mark) so I've done some online searches and found a few pieces of chinese kit, bought a woodgas stove, alcohol stove and 2 pot set for less than $35, they are compact but not light, will be testing everything out when they arrive in the mail.

+gamesbok wow my Original comment is close to a year old, I did buy the Chinese knockoff version and am very happy to own the set, the stove when stowed in its stuff sac fits perfectly inside the smaller pot of the two pot set added a fork, knife, spoon set, a lighter, a matchbox and a little tinder and I have a complete cooking system fitted inside a cook set. The only way I could have been happier for the money paid would have been if the pot stand allowed for feeding the fire while cooking.
I like that pot with the pan. But I wish they made that model with a bail handle. I don't carry a stove box. I grew up not using one, and they just seem gimmicy to me. I can save pack weight by making an open fire and hanging my pot over it. I'm a bushcrafter, and I often pack "tool heavy", but I try to save weight wherever possible. Carrying a stove is just pointless to me, living up in the north where no one cares if you build an open fire.
+Living Survival Yeah, in upper Mass and Vermont you can build open fires in most places. And where I camp/bushcraft it would be too much of a hike/hassle for forest rangers or police to get to me, lol. I'll eventually break down and buy an alcohol stove or fire box for my Go Bag in case I HAVE TO go to an area where they don't permit open fires. I'm thinking of getting a titanium pot that will fit over my normal pot, and turning it into a stove (drilling holes in it and all). But being able to put my normal cooking pot inside, it won't take up any more pack space.
I know this is an Old Post but I'm just seeing it. If you drill two small holes into each side of whatever you're using you can use a fish mouth spreader as a bail when you need it
King of heroes, do you have enough titanium? For the regular Joe, I think just one cup or set of titanium cookware is enough; if you're not actually cooking with it, it's just a super expensive drinking cup. I get that you're an enthusiast showing off the products, and you wouldn't bring all this on a single trip :-)
A bushbox XL I really like them, was going to buy one, but couldn't bring myself to drop £70 on it especially with the minimal use it would see, but any way it is a bushbox XL you can easily find them on Amazon :)
Titanium is stupid. Aluminum is lighter, conducts heat much better than titanium and is very much cheaper. As PT Barnum said, "There is a fool born every second". Ok,,, what EXACTLY is titanium and how much “titanium” content in a pan does it take to be called titanium?? 10% wool in a pair of socks is enough to be called wool socks.

Another great vid Ben. Love titanium. Toaks stuff looks really nice.
UrbanSuburban It has held up nicely so far.
Awesome cook kit! One of these days I'm going to get a cook kit from my camping/ bug out bag. Great breakfast by the way!
Jason McDaniel Thanks.
something magical about eggs and bacon in the woods
+Scott Harrison for sure

That is a killer cookware set. Cool points to you for cooking out in the cold, it ain't always easy.
MI Timberwookie I enjoy it either way. Gets me out.

Nicely done I just started my bag a couple days ago, but I'm going shopping for more stuff tomorrow after drivers training
Julian Burns Cool, post a video!
Nice review of the toaks products. But what was over the top was that you enjoyed a meal that was hands on and not just a review.A meal in the woods and worked for tastes soooo much better, spot on!
i try to show a skill or cook or at least be in the elements with every review.
Great pot set using the three of them. Love how they all nest.

I think a lot are made at same places like tires to diffrent or even same specs
It really helps in melting snow if you put some water in the bottom of your pot, to get it started. It melts snow much faster.
I’ve since learned that!
Great demo, looks like really excellent kit.
kbbjedi Thanks, I got hungry lol.
Nice cookware. I will have to check them out. I am trying to lighten my load for backpacking. Thanks Ben
***** Yah, titanium is the way to go for lightweight.
Really nice set up!
The Peaceful Prepper Thanks for the comment and watching.
Awesome cooking vid for the outdoors! Well done vid!!!
thanks.
Nice gear. Btw, if you're missing tongs for frying your bacon in the woods chopsticks are cheap and lightweight. Plus they can replace a fork if you like to carry a separate one.
cnawan Very true...tongs do work much better.
have you had any problem whit food sticking in the toaks pots ?
will a fuel canister fit in the 1600 pot/pan combo.. Thanks great channel..
good stuff, as good as the breakfast turned out, it appears to be some fine cookware...........ty for sharing
ben terwellen It's easier when it isnt so dang cold out.

Very interesting that your kit pans.
Congratulations on video
Hugs
LOVE That bushpot 900 ml with the bail!!!!
750ml but yes great pot!
I noticed that the bail connects to the pot where you would normally drink from. That would drive me nuts..
Gonna have to get the Toaks Fry Pan Pot set. I've got the 750 ml Cup/Pot and love it. I got hungry watching this one. You need to warn us! For some reason food cooked outdoors always tastes better.
Agreed.
Your channel blew up enjoy the ride im still HERE remember me :-) good luck you deserve it man
Michael Daury Thanks man!

Thanks for sharing,as im in need for a cookware set,,i bought a coughlin set last spring,,stupid me put it on a fire, and melted the handles,,oops,,but it didn't have a bail, which I really like
Mike DeLucia Yes, the coating on these handles is starting to peel off after a year of use.
Nice Video!! I like the cook kit. But i feel for you being in that cold country!! I dont miss the snow here in Vegas!!

Hi, I've enjoyed your vid. Pots aside, that's not a survival meal but an culinary orgy !!!!! ( Mine is envy, of course). Thanks for sharing. By the way..... Great titanium pot set
+César Fernández thanks for watching.
Do you have scorching problems due to the high heating efficiency of titanium?
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
What was the smallest cup size? I love the nesting idea and want to replicate it
hey bro, great vid, which stove is that? I got the firebox 5inch, i think yours looks taller.
Hi, how big is your klean kanteen bottle that can fit into 750ml pot? Was that 40oz bottle?? Great video!!
ChiLeeNG hand I want to know to if it is the 40oz bottle ?
Thanks for sharing. How easy is it to clean up the soot at the bottom of the pot?
I've read that if you coat the bottom and sides with ivory dish soap, the soot comes off with very little effort. I have yet to try it though.
Hey will you check out the hidden woodsman big pack he just updated it would love to see a review.
Where did you get your cool wood burning stove?
Hard to beat bacon and eggs. I've been looking at the Toaks systems to reduce weight and the price is great. Good review. Thanks Ben. atb Opal
+Opal Preston Shirley thanks, I love the stuff.
do you like the ti cooking gear better or aluminum gear. I'm curious, I'm not sure which I want to invest in. tks.
+Stacy Cornett i like titanium because it heats and cools quickly.
Thanks for the tip.
can a small fuel canister fit in the cup? or is the cup too small?
Is the Isle Royale Jr. a good pack? I wanted one for awhile, but seeing that it had no waist strap turned me off of it. would it be suitable for long hikes?
***** You can get a waist strap and it comes standard on the regular Isle Royal.
Is there any special way to clean the titanium? If the titanium is put on an open flame, the bottom can get a bit black with char and stuff I am guessing. So, do you just drop in water and scrub that stuff off?
***** I just use leaves and sand in the field or steel wool at home.
Living Survival Awesome thanks!
Coat the outside with Ivory dish soap before you put it on the Fire the soot will come off with very little effort
good video! where did you got the orange protecting bag?
bet they tasted perfect. pretty don't mean tasty . hows titanium for food sticking? clean up? been ponderin gettin me some o them titanium pots...they just cost so dern much ! i always used aluminum or stainless ,...served me well. good video, one thumbs up. 477
+Pappy i use oil usually. not as non-stick as my gsi bugaboo.
roger roger
What is the wood stove you are using? It almost looks like a Firebox. Great vid!
+snowyowl44 bushbox xl
What kind of boots and pants did you wear for this video? Thanks Ben.
What wood stove were you using?
Thanks for the great video!
Hey, thanks for the comment. It is the Bushcraft Essentials Bushbox XL.
Living Survival thanks
Hi! It looked Luke you were kneeling in the snow. If you were wearing snowboard or some weatherproof coveralls, could you tell me what brand or" style" name? Thanks.
i wear carharts (not waterproof), or northface snowpants or lately I've been wearing mil-surplus goretex pants.
Nice video. Thanks.
Does that toaks pot fit the nalgene 38oz or the 32oz or does it fit both.
I am in the market for skillet/cookset for solo one or two nighters and would like your opinions as you have tried and had some experiences with many brands. Thanks!
go through my stove playlist for the ones I like best.
Great video. What do you suggest as far as longer sporks that can be used for the MRE meals? I can't find one that is small enough to nest but long enough to get in the meals. Thanks.
+JediG16 get one that folds.
GGGGGGGREAT VIDEO AND THANKS FOR POSTING IT.....
You did not show filling the pot with snow... DID you add water to the pot before filling it with snow?
To all noobs, always add a little water to your pot before you add the snow for melting. Snow will scorch if you don't.
Are these lighter than most cook sets?
Might be a stupid question but does titanium rust more then stainless steel
Neither should rust.
Hey, I have no idea what the cooking stand thingy you are using is called? :-)
Darren Ackerley Bushcraft Essentials Bushbox XL
Thanks for being so prompt mate. Cheers, a huge help!
ALWAYS have a little bit of water in a cookpot when melting snow .
Fire starter in the Ziploc? Im not kidding, when I first saw it I thought it was a terd!...lol.
David Mm LOL
what is the proper way to dispose of the bacon grease etc, when out in the woods. I don't want to lug it around then home but I don't want to contaminate the environment either. Thank you
i just dump it. animal treat.
Living Survival oh cool, I wasn't sure if it was acceptable to do so. I always leave the area as if I wasn't there but yeah I'm sure the animals would love it.
Suggest that you include the price of items you review. Is it some kind of secret?
+Larry Kramer no secret. prices change.
How do you keep Eggs in the bush my dude
***** Thanks for watching and typing a comment. Appreciated as always.
750ml pot with bail, the smaller one is like a 400 or 350 can't remember and the large is the 1600 with lid. I thought about the 1300 as well which I think nests in the 1600.
Big Game Slayer Thanks for watching.
Frying an egg on anything non-stick is a pain in the butt. How'd the Titanium fare as far as "Stickage"? I'm assuming you used the bacon grease for the eggs..because..yum.. :-D
+Monkeybusiness right. gotta use some sort of grease.
Does the 450mil come with the stuff sack?
+Clayton Moorhead mine did.
how come you're not using one of the toaks woodgas stoves? do you own any?
+Daniel Sultana i do, the small backpacking stove. Have a review on it.
Daniel Sultana,
I bought a Chinese woodgas stove for £16.00 against the UK brand name stoves for £50. It took an age to arrive, they had used the cheapest transport, but arrive it did, and is every bit as good as the branded version.
What size is your titanium cookware
Hey, Whats the name of that backpacking stove you got there?
A "bushbox XL" , £70 on Amazon :)
+IamNemoN01 You are lucky, many places will not allow open fires so a wood stove is as close as you can get.
If you drill two small holes into each side of whatever you're using you can use a fish mouth spreader as a bail when you need it
Great stuff man, I really enjoy my 750ml from Toaks as well. Nice breakfast bud.
Thanks for stopping by my friend.
Just buy gold cookware. It's about the same cost per ounce.
Yeah but it's heavier defeating the whole point
Great review. Thanks.
Glenn McConnell Thanks for taking the time to watch.
King of heroes, do you have enough titanium?

how do you clean your cookware on a hike?
sand, moss, leaves. whatever I have close by.
even if you're going to cook again?
Boy Scout yep. a little dirt never hurt anyone.
the cup is 450ml
nice cookware .... ,nix the woodstove
What kind of cook stove is that?
A bushbox XL I really like them, was going to buy one, but couldn't bring myself to drop £70 on it especially with the minimal use it would see, but any way it is a bushbox XL you can easily find them on Amazon :)
