    Can I know what is the meaning of “key of C” in the beggining?

    • @ukeplayalongs
      @ukeplayalongs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      "Key" has some different meanings in music--in this case, we're talking about the chords that are used in a song and their relation to each other--centered around a "home" chord.
      Check out this video, as it might relate: th-cam.com/video/odZHgeCkIhM/w-d-xo.html
      Several keys are *usually* easier than others on the ukulele simply because of the way the instrument is tuned. C: easy. Am: easy. E: not so easy.
      The Key of C uses C, Dm, Em, F, G (or G7), Am, and Bdim7 most of the time (although you will see other chords from time to time, which are borrowed from other keys).
      Ultimately, if you see "Key of C" or "Key of Am" or "Key of G" or "Key of Dm" there's a chance that the song is much better suited for beginning players and will likely not throw major chord surprises at you.

    • @TheConnie1219
      @TheConnie1219 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This is great! But what's the strumming pattern?

    • @ukeplayalongs
      @ukeplayalongs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no "right" answer for this song...or most of the songs. What is important is that you strum with the beat, and the actual pattern doesn't matter as much. You have the freedom to try different strumming patterns and to see what works best for you. There are often comments where people suggest various patterns, so you might want to look through those comments as well.
      When I make strumming suggestions in a song, I frequently get comments that I am wrong! 🤔 And there's no right answer to start with!
      On new videos (this one is older) I am making tutorial videos that include which chords to play and strumming suggestions.
      P.S. for, I find myself playing DDUDDU a lot on this song.

      I'm sorry, I can't. I wish I could as it uses "My Favorite Things" as its basis. But one of the things I'm committed to is using songs with clean lyrics so that these videos can be safely used in school. She uses quite a few swear words and it sounds ridiculous when they are removed from the audio (See TH-cam for "Clean" version). Granted, it isn't "Thank U, Next," but it's still a problem. I run into the same issue for a number of other artists...

      There was no ukulele in the original recording, so there is no "right" answer. Strum with the beat, with a pattern that works for you. Or scroll through the comments where others have said what works for them. It's a play along--not a performance, so what matters is that you play along with the beat and choose a strumming pattern that you like and that sounds good to you.
      On new videos, I make a tutorial on my sister channel--and I make strumming suggestions in that tutorial...and then people will tell me I'm wrong! So...you can't ever make everyone happy.

    I don't know what the strumming pattern is

    • @ukeplayalongs
      @ukeplayalongs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would encourage you not to worry too much about a “correct” strumming pattern. There are very few situations on these play alongs with the “real” music where a ukulele was used in the actual recording. What you want to do is listen to the song, strum in tempo, and find a pattern that works for you. When I teach, I very seldom talk about strumming. I do talk about where to strum, and that strumming requires continual movement of the wrist (where most of the action occurs) without “freezing.” There are play along videos that specify patterns...and I have made a few. But then I get comments that my suggested pattern in wrong. So...work on keeping the beat, keeping that strumming hand moving, and find a pattern (or patterns) that you feel work with the song.

  • @leilasophia5685
    @leilasophia5685 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    these chords don't even work with the song

    • @ukeplayalongs
      @ukeplayalongs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      When I get comments like these, I normally delete them, but since I'm a teacher, I wanted to make this a teachable moment.
      First, the chords in the video work with the audio in the video, which has been raised in pitch from the original version so that it is easier to play on ukulele. I just went and checked, and the chords are right in that key.
      If you mean that you cannot play along with the original recording with these chords, that would be true.
      Second, all of these resources are free...and in the case of every one of the people who make ukulele play alongs with the original recordings, we don't earn a cent on these videos. As a matter of courtesy, I'd encourage you to use a bit of kindness on future comments, saying something like:
      "I've been playing this song, and the chords that are shown don't seem to be right. Could you check that?"
      We're developing a culture that is very bold, short, and cold--we have to make sure that we extend kindness into this digital world, too.
      Thanks so much for your comment, and I wish you the very best.

    Whats the strum pattern?

    • @ukeplayalongs
      @ukeplayalongs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. You can read about strumming patterns and why I don't include them in the community area of this forum. You can use any strumming pattern that goes along with the song, but on a song like this, you'll find that there isn't one answer for the whole song...it changes frequently. You can try all kinds of patterns such as DDDD, DUDUDUDU, or D DU UDU, and see what fits to your ear.
      If you're looking for an easy answer, there isn't one on a song like this.

  • @kianagannaban2035

    Strum pattern?

    • @ukeplayalongs
      @ukeplayalongs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just for clarification, there really isn't "a" strum pattern, and there usually isn't on most of these play alongs as there was no ukulele originally used. I suggest making sure that you are strumming with the beat, and listening for what sounds best to you at that part of the song (because the mood shifts from place to place in the song).
      Some good strums to try are D DU D DU, D DUDUDU, and D DU UDU.
      But start to trust your own ear as to what sounds best to you!
