Lmao! That would be a marvelous choice given the fact that I'm personally not impressed with the new album. I've been listening to them since '97. I don't totally dislike the album but there's certainly some musical technicality missing in this. Just my two cents. Alas, this won't stop me from listening to them. I'll be seeing them here in Denver on May 3th. I'm ecstatic to say the least!
+Desertwhale don't make fun of myung's lyrical writing skills. he has wrote stuff and it's always the not so straight, mysterical stuff. the joke is to say he is doing the vocals for the next album. THAT would be liquid tension experiment 3
James deserves the therapy. It's freaking awesome. He is the MVP on this album. Unimaginable how his age doing some multiple characters. These guys deserves my money
Next album they should let Mangini and Myung write the whole album, and let Mangini engineer his drums (I'm sure he can make em sound better than that Rich guy can).
+Spirit Well, writing wise I don't care as much, because the album was a great listen in that sense. But The drums, for the second album in a row, sounded like a snare drum falling into a pile of horse shit.
He's actually a very funny and chill dude. Got to meet him when he played in NY earlier this year. Very chill. Not Corey Taylor chill, but much more chill than I expected. lol
Welcome to "the astonishing" world. Anyone who enjoys this album like me? besides of listening the entire songs as a thematic album. what is your fav song as a single track? moment of betrayal, the x-aspect, begin again, road to revolution :)
I just really discovered this album, I love putting it on and just listening to the story and the all the elements that have gone into it. Still haven't formed an opinion on my favourite piece yet, but I really think you have to be missing something to not enjoy this album for what it is.
"A Life Left Behind" That's probably one of the most progressive songs I've ever heard since Octavarium, A Change of Seasons, Dance of Eternity, and Lost Not Forgotton. It's a lighter song, but man the instrumental aspects, James' voice, and that intro to the song is just killer. And what I like about the song is that it's light. Some of the DT fans are too into the heavier songs and they don't like anything else. I don't get the DT fans. I like everything they've done so far.
@@drillcream - I'm responding to your 2 year old comment here, but I also just really "discovered" The Astonishing album by Dream Theater a couple months ago. I have almost all of DT's albums going back, but I didn't get into the Astonishing until recently. Now it's one of my favorites from them. My mistake before was not taking this album for what it was meant to be.
@@IKARIANOFFICIAL not recognising some music for what it was has been a mistake I've made many times before hehe.. I haven't listened to it in a while, gonna put it on now while I'm working
When my dad introduced me into to you guys I listened and nodded my head so after that I went on with my life soon after I heard my friends listening to it so I listened to Train of Thought and I wanted more so thank you for making these amazing songs keep going guys 👍
+brazwen Well, firstly, it's an album. Download link: drive.google.com/file/d/0B2saNm1QTk_-bnNXSlBSdHNNWVk/view Don't be a dick and actually buy the album if you like it, though.
Brutus Kennedy Rutherford III Yeah I know they sometimes write songs on their own, but most of the time Portnoy and Myung cowrote the songs as well, which isn't the case this time
I can't agree Tyflol, Rudess particularly brings a splendid orchestral musical dimension to DT, think of the Overture on SDOIT and that will always please me and JP is a splendid lyricist, like Peart, so I am more than happy to have them as "the band".
Sorry to be THAT guy, but I REALLY miss MP. I have nothing against Mangini, and I still love DT and their music, it's just... How great would it be if they found a way? Every new DT album that comes out, every interview, every live show, every DVD makes me wish he was there. This has been harder to deal with than break ups, haha.
actually, you can tweak Mangini - Drum sound by using Rack Graphic Equalizer and adding a little of Reverb -Pioneer Reverb Rack and using a Pioneer Subwoofer that has - it's own Volume , and can adjust the Subwoofer level.. But when I listened to this Album whithout using anything - really the Drum Sound is not so good.- especially on headphones.
Three days, heavens cove, A new beginning. Ravenskill is the biggest atmosphere set up for the album imo, next to dystopian overture. because you know, it's the overture.
The angelic and religious themes, to me, seem to be an intellectual weakness for this band. While the instrumental and vocal ability seems very well thought out, and practiced, the themes and lyrics are very cliche and unsophisticated surprisingly. There have been times, however, where the theme was not religious, or pretentious, in any way, but asked some sort of philosophical question. THAT is the Dream Theater I enjoy more, where the theming and lyrics are just as sophisticated as the rest of the work.
+Lindy Enalya No disrespect intended, but to appeal to religious content that happens to reflect one's own context is a testament to the conviction that is required to believe religious claims. It's only disappointing, because I know they can reach broader subject matter, instead of appealing to what is popular, or what they were born into.
+Vex I don't think that religion in music is unintelligent, but it very easily can be. I also agree that dream theater lyrics haven't been all that great since octavarium
+Vex Because I think that searching for and speaking about the truth of (the origin of) life is an intelligent topic. Besides, they have reached a broader subject matter in many other songs.
it is interesting. she. James mentioned that he would try out different vocal styles, then listen back to see if it worked or not. this is exactly what I do as an amateur author and reader. I write a final draft, then I check how the word choice fits with the mood of the piece. it is cool how such seemingly different artistic fields have such similarity.
Saludos may :)
I love Dream Theater songs like Pull Me Under and Take the Time, but most of their catalog seems too ballad driven for me, what songs should I check out?
I really like the train of thought album. each album typically has a different feel to it. like on the album awake labrie's vocals were a bit grittier but the more recent ones all sound fairly similar and ballad-ish. some of the songs I would recommend are, these walls, as I am, in the name of god, forsaken, enemy inside, outcry, and the entire metropolis album. hope that helps
James, you are a grown man and talking seriously about a dude name "Lord Nafaryus." This album is an adolescent band camp fantasy embarrassment for a legendary prog-metal band to have even considered.
+perfektspace If you don't like fantasy stories then it's your problem. There are people who stop dreaming when they grow, but there are others who likes fairy tales and fantasy stories
I listen to DT since 1992, and I use to love it to death, but after Mike Portnoy got out (because Labrie, and I hate him for that, he is the one that should be out of the band) it's just not the same, I don't have any fillings listening to DT anymore, it's like the crazy love just fade away, now it's boring for me to listen to DT, and don't get me wrong, still an amazing band, but, I don't care for listening anymore... It's sad... I really hate you Labrie... Really!
The drums sound electronic and triggered. And this sounds like Jordan forced this project and ran with it. Way too much keyboards. Since when is a guitar driven band the lesser instrument to the keyboards. And all the 1/2 time ballad style songs. About 10 keyboard driven tunes under 2 minutes. Most of the songs start w/keyboards. And stuff that reminds me of Disneyland. Should have been called Jordan Rudess and Friends.
Brutus Kennedy Rutherford III Thanks dad. We all have opinions. Just like you think everyone cares what ur full name is. Was I wrong, Is there less than 50 % of the album that's not ballads from a progressive rock band?
Aaaaalriiiight, so DT spent all the time writing LYRICS. When the time came to actually write MUSIC, they just slapped some mish-mash of regurgitated reusable parts from previous albums. Cuz now the songs sound like a non-stop pastiche of the cheesiest DT material to date. Hey, please try a reverse approach next time. MAKE ORIGINAL MUSIC first, and then slap some texts together. Oh, and nevermind the content, the lyrics can be half-baked, just sing about whatever, cuz YOUR"E A GODDAMNED PROGRESSIVE METAL BAND!!!!!! if I wanna read a story, I'll go to book store, thank you very much. ))
James is gonna need therapy? I know just the guy. "Close your eyes and begin to relax..."

Half way into this album he was like "Conscience....fading.."
The therapist was a killer so don't even we need our James

James is gonna need therapy. Let's go on two world tours with him anyway.
Myung couldn't make the interview. He was writing the lyrics to the next album.

The guys looking healthy as ever! Cant wait for friday when the album gets released :D
it's gonna be awesome!! can't wait to get a copy of it!! Yeah DT Forever!
I can wait to meet Dream Theater on April 16!
James Labrie is such an artist. People like to talk a lot of shit but I can't imagine rock music without his input and influence.
He's actually a very funny and chill dude. Got to meet him when he played in NY earlier this year. Very chill. Not Corey Taylor chill, but much more chill than I expected. lol

I think the difficult part is, is that this is the most changing album they have made for the listener to get into.
The Astonishing the best dream theater album! really astonishing!
We love you guys, forever.
i think this is it! this is the missing album! this is the album i was looking for from DT :)
I can't wait to hear the whole album and see what LaBrie was talking about.
+quintin tabura It has been leaked, if you really wanna hear it you can. Check out reddit.com/r/ravenskill

Yeeaaah Ravenskill is the best of the entire album! :D

because you know, it's the overture.
+John Epps My favorite is The Path That Divides
I've actually become quite fond of the track before it, A Life Left Behind.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Since these music Gods did the best job, I absolutely like their music.
The one that shined in this entire new album was James. He was on point.

Alguém legenda isso por favor !!1
i love
Never mind which voice James is doing on stage, the question is, will he be able to sing in tune?
have you watched live videos?
after D+E4 he can't.
his vocal range is now limited to E2- D4
when it used to be E2- G5 ( with occasional A5's )
Better life

Cannot fix it without evertune

what piece of astonishing dull cheese
the look so tired. Why James picked Ravenskill, I have ko idea. I find it has some of the worst lyrics.
the álbum is too long
hahhahahahha
Three years on from this complete and utter turd of an album and this video simply gets more and more cringeworthy.
this album is crap...wedding music .
