Great video! This one is probably the best one to watch if you need to change your FJ Rear wheel bearings. Maybe find another one for the parking brake puzzle.

Great video. Mic location on the voice over was incredibly close tho. I will be cutting my bearings off also.

Great video. I looked this subject up due to me needing to replace the bearings in a 2009 Tacoma for a client of mine. I did not want to purchase the tool because I most likely won't use it again and at the cost of almost $200. I'm a veteran in this vocation of over 39 years and I've replaced many, many axle bearings in my time behind the wrench. Just about every other bearing I've replaced I've been able to tackle with some creative ingenuity, a press, a dremel tool and a hot wrench, (torch). Not this one though. I regretted selling the bearings to my client once I took the axles out, but she's a great customer and I aim to please, so I was committed.
I called the dealer to ask if they would remove the bearings only with me providing them axles in hand. Not re-install the new ones. One dealer said no and the other one said, "Sure, we'll do that for you and the cost would be $368.00 per bearing/axle.", knowing I was handing the axles to them and not having them perform the entire job. Ridiculously out of line with that price. With the proper tools, the job can be completed by a D level tech in less than 30 minutes for each one. I was willing to pony up $60 each for just the removal, but no more or I'd just buy the tool and do it myself.
Anywho, I printed a picture copy of the special tool and decided to attempt to make a tool using my fabricating skills. And I did so with success.
It took about an hour or so to design and fab the tool. I used some heavy duty 3/16 angle steel that was used in packaging and delivery of one of my vehicle lifts years ago. Drilled the holes for the backing plate flange at exactly 3.5" apart in a square, doubled them up and welded them to a length of 3/16 wall steel pipe and a couple of other pieces of the steel to weld to the top of the pipe that just barely fit through the press' upper perch. I set it up and prayed my welds were strong enough to pop the bearing loose.
My gosh, were those bearings tight! I used a cheater bar on the lever due to the pressure it took to release the grip on the axle. I wasn't completely confident for success. But once I heard the first pop, I new I was golden.
So, if anyone's interested in my tool design, hit me up and I'll send pics. Or I'll build one for you and ship it for $100 plus shipping

yeah it is super expensive to get a shop to do it. most small shop won't even to axle bearing job. if you are willing, I've seen ppl just cut out the outer bearing housing with angle grinder all the way to inner race, and from there, you can do dremel to score the inner race and chisel it to crack it. and you are ready for a new bearing to be pressed. but , having the tool is the best. just easier. Indeed it's not like just popping a sealed bearing and replace with new. This bearing is actually PRESSED IN.

Hey Wayne. you should be able to purchase from some brands. I got mine from ebay in US. Duane is the name of the guy. There are several different bolt patterns in toyota axle alone. so you really gotta make sure that the tool you are buying is specifically for FJ cruiser.

goto ebay and search fj wheel bearing puller. and message the seller to make sure it's for FJ.
