I can understand the attraction of GIFT city and advantages to the govt. But the priority for govt should be to liberalise the usual NRE/NRO and demat accounts for NRI in ordinary banks- that’s where the majority of NRI money is invested, not in some glorified GIFT city.
Another area is UPI- govt should make it easier for NRI.
In fact I don’t understand why there are so many different bank accounts. Once the money is converted to rupees, it shouldn’t make any difference if the holder is NRI or Indian resident.

  • @NRVAPPASAMY1
    @NRVAPPASAMY1 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Sir
    1
Very enlightening post. Should we take it as a future vision statement or already specific products for NRI available.
    2
What about infrastructure? How it is connected to Ahmedabad or Gandhinagar? Road/ Rail/ Air.
    3
As you know, NRI are miserable already with Indian Banks, dividends from corporates, interests from financial institutions and frozen parent accounts in the name of Re-KYCs, lakhs of crores ending up with RBI and distributing in the name of dividends to Central Government. There is no effort to hand it over to rightful owners but used as a tool to harass them.
    4
Better NRI youngsters to keep it in where ever they live rather than to "Swaha". Can you guarantee the Gift City database is not spared to scamsters? Already we are suffering from Bajaj Finance Overdraft to Kotak Bank Insurance to digital arrest from Vietnam.
    5
GIFT city is meant for people who are well connected to Governments across the Globe.

I am a NRI and I would NEVER invest in India. The rules are sooo convoluted! Tell me one good reason why I should pay GST when I am repatriating money from India. I mean what service I am getting in return. On top of it TDS on the capital gains on sale of property is nearly 24%, so many type of paperwork, no senior citizen benefits in NRE accounts…the list goes on. Let India thrive, but Jai Ramji Ki. I have better places to invest my money in the world.

100% correct. NRI are already pulling out money from India and every NRI who has the means to save their money outside money must do and only repatriate as little as required for their families and siblings to buy food and rent a home. The bhaiyas ministers are suckers as ordered by Godi media

GIFT CITY HAS FAILED AND WILL NEVER SUCCEED UNDER GODI . Its wastage of tax payers wealth starving rest of India for Gujarat’s prosperity which we Indians are proud of had it been of betterment of Gujrat . GIFT city is a money guzzler and its only Indian companies have rented shops in GIFT city who will not survive without Godi protection against corrupt governess.

NRIs who do not plan to go back to settle in India need not choose GIFT city. Indian government can change laws anytime to the detriment of investors. NRI dividend income & short-term gains are taxed differently from residents now so it is obvious that there is no love for NRIs as portrayed in this video.

Too much of a rosy picture to trust. I had previously asked question on repatriation of money on this channel, where they made it look so efficient and simple, while the bank would not do it, and they never answered. Banking and financial investments tracking and management are still rudimentary in India. It's too risky for anyone living abroad to confidently invest in India unleass they have someone living in India who can manage their investments. Moreover, the trust factor in the finance minister is shaky at best.
The other option is to have a trusted investment agent/agency and tax consultant in India who can take care of your investments. Otherwise, it's suicidal.
